  • We are testing the 800 inch pound Ridgid Max Output Hammer Drill against its big brother, the 1,300 inch pound Ridgid Octane Hammer Drill. The go through several tests to push the Max Output to the very edge of what it's capable of handling. This is not a fair comparison.

Ridgid should have released a Gen 2 Octane line like Milwaukee does with the Fuel. They will suffer for this.

That Octane hammer drill still impresses me on many of my jobs. It's a great hammer drill. I like that the new one is more compact, but, it does take away from the power quite a bit. To each their own. Thanks for the comparison video 🙂✌️♥️

Ironic, considering the new Max Output impact driver is considered better than the Octane generation and it doesn't even have the extra Max Output contacts that the new hammer drill has.

Not sure they are going backwards. The Max Output hammer drill is a big improvement over the Gen5X. It doesn't have the power of the Octane though. I will say that the remainder of the kit is a significant improvement over their Octane counterparts.

I really hate the Ridgid's drill with led light in the chunk. The brushed Gen 5 hammer drill loose the drill bit went the drill stop. The same happens with the Octane brushless hammer drill. I think is something with the chunks and led light ring.

    • @ToolswithSoAlz

I do like having the light ring and a lot of times the chuck let's loose on me because I backed past the lock. However, a lot of people have issues with the chucks keeping the bit. That doesn't seem to be an issue with the new Max Output hammer drill. Overall I have been pretty impressed with the new drill, even though it has less power than the Octane.

Luckily they still have the Octane available and it is awesome. The new drill is probably more powerful that most of the other ones in that space. The good news is that Ridgid is always coming out with new hammer drills so, it is pretty likely they'll make another one that is bigger and stronger. That being said, the new Max Output can do 90-95% of what most people are ever going to need it for.

I cant buy ridgid, im in south europe. We only have AEG, which is european version of ridgid, but we dont get american warranty. If you want proper warranty in europe, hilti is the way to go. There is no tool that can surpass hilti. Tools itself arent strong enough, but its such good company, rarely found on this planet. Their tools are made here, they are made by an european hand and they are fixed by an european hand. The only reason i went with makita is cuz i wanted makita's duc353, beautiful small 36v chainsaw. Cuts like a gasoline version under 2kw. So since i got 2×6ah makita batteries, it was logical to continue with makita. But i realized that i can buy any tool and buy an adapter for battery. So i can fit any other brand with my makita batteries. But still, im sad, should have waited for 40v :(

Hilti should reinvent themself a little bit. Tools and batteries are outdated. They neef to make one battery platform like makita with 40v. Cuz they have couple of diff batteries, and i dont like that. We in europe are very careful with our buyings. We cant really go out there and buy bunch of stuff in big box stores. For example, here in croatia we have almost the tripple prices for something in the US. Ive been comparing some american dewalt deals, ive seen 7 piece tool box kit for 500 dollars. Went to my croatian retail market, here it costs little bit more than 2000 dollars. I was shocked. Milwaukee is even more expensive, its actually hilarious how they are ripping us off. When i saw some makita deals in american big box stores i almost fainted. Here is some small comparison: In united states, makita 36v rotary hammer drill with double charger, two batteries and box costs 840 euros. In croatia same tool, bare without box, without double charger and without two batteries costs 1300 dollars hahahaha. I was paying 240 dollars for just one 6ah makita battery haha.
