Fire officials give update on Oceanside Pier fire

- Fire crews successfully stopped the forward progress of a massive fire that erupted on the Oceanside Pier.
The City of Oceanside said the fire was reported at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday inside the vacant restaurant formerly known as Ruby's Diner. Fire crews arrived at the pier five minutes after the flames were reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard, CalFire, SDG&E and San Diego County firefighters are fighting the fire from the water and air.

This is horrible . I have good memories from the pier . It was a beautiful walk and the views were amazing.

City needs to get a handle on this resource and clean it up! A derelict restaurant for many years is not acceptable. The end of the pier should be the jewel of the coast and instead it’s a creepy dirty mess. We need to reinvent the pier and solve this mess! Why did it take a fire to resolve this neglect?!
The city should have found a new vendor. The old restaurant vacated the property.

It was vacant because ruby's closed and the price to buy the building or rent it was insane because it's considered a prime tourist spot, so it has just sat empty with no company wanting to buy it due to the cost
It hasn’t been empty for 10 years- I moved here 6 years ago and it was still open and open for a few years after that.

The female politician mention there were worker on the pier and they were all accounted for? What were they doing on the Pier? Amazing she already spoke to several other political leaders, in addition too getting a bill signed to pay for the rebuild... oh ok

100-Minutes into the fire, they only, had a single aircraft making water drops. And it wasn't the PG&E one that can dip into the Ocean.
Why wasn't at least one--if not more--true, full-size, fireboats with multiple, water cannons ever dispatched to the scene?
If u want to find the arson suspects if it was arson check the cameras…

They keep claiming that several departments were there. 🤷🏻♀️ However, all those “departments” were unable to do anything. Even the boats could only assist very little. The 1st helicopter came about 50 mins after the start. So sad 😢 They were definitely not prepared for such a situation which makes the response sooo disappointing. Imagine if it was summer, full of tourists?! I live by the pier and saw it. Just walked the pier this morning :(
Camp Pendelton offered resources early on in the fire. Why did the on-scene, Commander issue an order to "cancel?"
where did you hear pendleton offered their help?? unless it was huge fireboats, they wouldn't have been any help... they are not equipped nor trained to fight these types of fires.. Oceanside has plenty of stations, and with the addition of surrounding cities, no other help is needed.
It will take forever to rebuild. A++ to the boats and even the little crane toot toot fire boat for stopping the structure burn. F- to the captain 18 and crew for not dragging the lines and hitting it from the top. They let it burn and will probably complain about the smoke for being in the way.
This isn’t going to be out till it’s at the waterline

Rebuild what? Ruby’s has been closed for years…. Just chop the end off! Put benches or something… I grew up at, on, around and under that pier…. Back in 70/80’s when the storm would wash out in huge storm… lol 😢🙏 thank God our pier stands❤ and we paid $100 in the 90’s to help rebuild the pier and got my daughters name on it… she is 36 now and would of been heartbroken if the fire removed it🙏 Thank you God🤘
