Dan Blocker's cousin, Sterling Blocker, did emergency abdominal surgery on my six week old son many years ago. His hands were as big as "Hoss" and I was terrified to think of those massive hands operating on such a tiny infant. He did a phenomenal procedure and thankfully, my son recovered and gets embarrassed every time I tell the "story." I went to ODonnell Texas to see Dan Blocker's hometown. Legendary Dan Blocker
Oh...the memories of watching Bonanza eating dinner on TV Trays with my grand parents. Otherwise, dinner was always at the table! Big Valley & Bonanza were the exceptions! Thank you for this nice tribute.
I thought the 'memorial' beach was a beautiful gesture by Lorne Green and Michael Landon. Thank you Jordan for going to such lengths to produce this excellent broadcast.
His son Dirk Blocker is the spitting image of Dan. He is an actor, has appeared in many films and TV shows. Michael Landon hired him to star in an episode of Little House on the Prairie.
The sun has risen and the sun has set, and we ain't out of Texas yet!! Thank you so much for rambling across a vast expanse and off the beaten path to show his final resting place. I love your ethics.
We all have moments in our lives that are touchstone moments. His death was one of those for me. I was 9 years old, playing with friends at a park when I heard an adult say "Hoss Cartwright had died" My heart sank and it seemed the world stopped. The next timed I felt that way was when Elvis died. Thanks Jordan.
My grandparents always loved telling the story of Dan moving in across the street from them in New Mexico and working as a school teacher there before going to California and making it big😊spoke so highly of him ❤my entire life…said he carried all the appliances in by himself on his back😅
Loved Dan Blocker, my Mother always thought my first husband Owen looked a lot like him, Owen was also 6’3” and 280 # and such a gentle person. Ty for this Jordan 🥰🐾😎
Dan had a football scholarship at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas (a couple of hours away from O'Donnell) but only played ball there for a year. He was expelled from school after punching out a dorm R.A. at Abilene Christian University while visiting a friend there (the R.A. had told Dan he was making too much noise). Dan then enrolled at present day Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas where he eventually received a Masters in drama. Dan was the only member of the Bonanza cast to have a college degree, and a graduate degree at that. ;)
You're in my neck of the woods. And he's my Mom's cousin. He had twins and my sis and I..so, it does skip generations. Awesome. Texarkana, has a lot of history as well. The Town That Dreaded Sundown and Boggy Creek Monster. Safe journeys on the travels. 🙏
I remember Dirk Blocker from Little House on the Prairie. I know he did other acting, I just dont recall what right now. Able was one of the sweetest guest characters on Little House! Thank you, Jordan, very moving video!! 👍👍 Rest In Peace, Dan Blocker🌹
*Dan's wife Delphia never remarried and is still alive.* I wonder if she'll still be buried next to him in the family plot. It looks like there might be enough room between Dan and his sister. In my opinion Dan was the best part of the Bonanza show. He was definitely my Grandmothers favorite.
Familiar with Dekalb, TX. Never been to ODonnell. Growing up in Texas I've still never seen all the places. Thank you for doing his story. When it comes to anything vintage cowboy I think of Dan Blocker. I never knew the beach story. Crossing Texas does take quite an amount of time. Thank you Jordan.
That was a super job you did in giving a synopsis of Dan blocker’s life I really was sad when Dan passed away,I always looked at him having a bigger heart than his actual size, and I know he has a very special place in heaven with our LORD,thank you again for sharing these very special memories of a very special man that will always be alive in my heart,as he was an inspiration to me in my life!
I like Bonanza when I was young but my late uncle Wendell was is every show he watch every episode until the end of the show thank you Jordan for sharing this video
Jordan, your stories and the way to tell them are phenomenal. I loved Hoss and remember watching his son also on TV who looked exactly like him. Thanks Jordan. ❤❤❤
I was totally in love with "Hoss" as a 5 year old. My parents even bought me my very own 10 gallon hat just like his. 🤠 ❤ 🐎 Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸
RIP Dan Blocker ❤🙏 I remember watching Bonanza with my entire family. I lost interest in the show when Dan Blocker passed away. Very interesting video. Thank you Jordan. 🙏🌟💎
I was very young when my father took me to a Car Dealership that Dan Blocker was there to promote Chevrolet. He picked me up and I asked him where his guns were, he said that they were back at the Ranch- priceless. Great memory
I had a thought of a person, an icon, a legend, and a very charismatic person you should try to interview and from rumors might do it as he is known for being very friendly. Maybe you already have and I didn't see it, Joe Namath. THis may not be the best place to make this suggestion but I did it anyway.
I rode racehorses and went to my friend's ranch the Rafter Cross ranch.I went and took pictures of the store, this was 1987 ,I may be wrong but there was a rodeo arena outside of town that he built and gave to the town.I may be wrong, nice people there.
I Loved Bonanza and Dan was my favorite character on there and like others when he passed I had lost interest in watching the show even the spinoff show 💗
I watched bonanza with my family on Sunday nights. I was probably a preteen and loved the show and wanted to be a cartwright My dad would always say that poor horse carrying big Hoss cartwright What a great guy. Sorry he died so young
I don't know if you ever watched that interview with Dan on the set of Bonanza - Very articulate guy - Very bright - He's talking about Nixon going to China - Supreme intellect - Very humble guy - After he passed - Bonanza went down the tubes without Dan . . .
I did a video on Dan, but O’Donnell was just too far away. Oh and DeKalb is pronounced “de-cab”. Don’t ask me why but that’s how they say it here. Keep on rockin’ Jordan!
MY DAD AND MR. BLOCKER WHERE AWESOME FRIENDS... THEY SERVED TOGETHER... MR BLOCKER ALWAYS CAME TO VISIT MY DAD... HE WOULD MAKE US HIS CHILI AND BOY WAS IT SPICY LOL MY DAD WOULD TAKE HIM OUT TO THE MISSILE SITES HERE .. HE WAS SUCH A NICE MAN THAT IS MY MEMORIES OF HIM.. DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS AN ACTOR JUST MY DADS BUDDIE...
Not a Texas fan but love you, Katie and Jah. Thank you for this vlog! I love the story behind Dan! As a licensed PhyD. I have many, many opinions. ~Love&Light♥️Carli xx
I haven’t watched yet. Just saw the title and I’m like Jordan is in DeeCab, TX. Yes that’s how I was told to pronounce it by the locals😂. Can’t wait to watch!❤ I went to see the crash site of Ricky and that’s how I found out about Hoss’ gravesite.

Makes me sad still.. he was my favorite in the Bonanza reruns. RIP Dan.
My Daddy loved Bonanza & he loved "Hoss". Thank you again Jordan for a wonderful vlog.❤❤❤
It's so sad when the really good ones pass away so young....a life incomplete.
His son Dirk Blocker is the spitting image of Dan. He is an actor, has appeared in many films and TV shows. Michael Landon hired him to star in an episode of Little House on the Prairie.
He was also a regular on Black Sheep Squadron with Robert Conrad
He looks like him in the face, but is nowhere near as big and burly. He was funny on Brooklyn 99.

In Bonanza, His character name was Eric Cartwright.

Does anyone know where his ranch was located in Mission Acres, currently North Hills, CA?
