I remember when my mom was preparing lunch for me while watching this show! And how great the acting and directing were! This was true SOAP wonderfulness!!
Uhkaay !!! Uhhhh GOOOOD TIIIIIMES !!! This 1 of the main things that brings me back 2 my childhood . A lot of the soaps theme songs makes me cry 😭😭 bc it remind me of my childhood when life was sooooo simple 😭. That's y I'm here 2day, I was feeling a little nostalgia!!!
I remember my mom watching this when I was 3 to 4 years old back around 1980. I remembered this and the themes to the other ABC soaps during that time.
Each title really represents the era, doesn't it! I love the freshness to the 1980 version.. reminds me of how it felt to go into that decade. How about some daytime soaps on streaming services?!
i never had an opportunity to watch RYAN'S HOPE for an extended period of time. i vividly remember the theme music, though. i am an avid soap fan and i would love to view past episodes of the show.
@@Soapluvva Robert Gentry (Ex-Ed Bauer Guiding Light, Ex Ross Chandler All My Children, Ex-Phillip Lyons Another World, Elliot The Bold & The Beautiful & Ex Giles One Life To Live) was also on the Show but it didn't stay on long. "Ryan's Hope" disappeared from the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida in October of 1988, just a few months before the final episode aired. When ABC moved this soap to 12 PM in the Fall of 1984, WTSP-TV 10 started airing it at 10:30 AM. But, the station eventually moved it back to 12:30 PM, when it stopped airing "Loving".
You're very welcome! When "Loving" debuted in June of 1983, ABC aired it weekdays at 11:30 AM. However, it has been said that Agnes Nixon wanted it to air weekdays at 12:30 PM. She created "Loving", "All My Children", and "One Life To Live", and she wanted her soaps to air in a continuous block. So, ABC moved "Ryan's Hope" into the "death slot" of weekdays at 12 PM in October of 1984. ABC also aired "The Edge Of Night" in the "death slot" of weekdays at 4 PM from December of 1975 (when it left CBS) through December of 1984.
I had a hard time accepting this show originally. It replaced " the Edge of Night" very abruptly and after watching EON all my life, it was jarring! Once I started watching, I remember sympathizing with Delia. She always seemed unjustly unliked and everyone always seemed to gang up on her. I was soooo happy when Ilene Kristen went to " One Life To Live". She was much more fun to watch.
I never realized how many people in the Star Trek franchise that either got their start or were on this show at one point or another. Kate Mulgrew (Janeway, Voyager), Andrew Robinson (Garak, DS9), Daniel Hugh Kelly (Insurrection), Catherine Hicks (Dr. Gillian Taylor, Star Trek IV), Nana Visitor (Major Kira, DS9). Also Earl Hindman (Wilson, Home Improvement) and Nell Carter (Gimme A Break)
anthoner note here this show was cancelled the same year i graduated high school didn get a chance to watch the finale since i was in class at that hour dam i wished we were going to have a snow day then for the record it was January 14th of that year /
Ok peeps, there is no excuse. It was 1989 and a blank VHS tape could be had in that period for around a buck or two from those big uber cheap bins near the entrance at the KMart or Woolco or wherever...and VCRs were pretty much everywhere in the late 80s...so, as I said, no excuse. ;)
I agree with the people who said there was a very first opening with just Johnny, Maeve and the baby. Later on they added other cast members. I think the second opening shown here was odd - just random people that weren't actors in the show.
nice, but you did miss at least two early ones, mauve and john and little baby john in the park, in slow motion, and again, same action but in still photos. i think the slow motion one was first, then the one you had of the photos of the whole family in the park, then the still photo one. i used to watch it on soapnet. I still love the theme song!
Yes your right. I always thought it was strange that they didnt change to a better opening than that too. Then when they changed it they didnt even have any of the shows characters on it
Could someone tell me if Ryan's Hope was ever Broadcasted on UK TV. I live in Canada and I know that Y & R, B & B, and GL still are shown in Foreign Markets.
I just had a thought. If there was one thing that RH had in common with Britian's Longest Running Soap Opera Coronation St. is that a lot of the Action took place in a Pub. Yet it was known as The Rovers Return.
Nice, but you're missing two of the openings. The first and third openings had just Mave, Johnny and Little John. The first one was footage that looked to have been shot the same day as the photos from the "picnic" intro, and then the third one was actually shots taken from the same footage. So it went from just Johnny and Maeve and the grandson, to the picnic intro, back to Johnny and Maeve, then came what I call the "department store ad" opening.
The picnic was the first opening as the children got recast in the early years they were edited out and you see Johnny, Maeve and Little John in the park
What I find astonishing is there are a whole lotta smiles from a soap that had a whole lotta drama!! Also, the first opening sequence looks like a diaper commercial!! Whatever happened to that baby? What is the name of that baby?

It is so lovely to capture this wonderful music from the past.
This is the type of soap opera I would create if I hit the lottery. Great actors, great writing.
Memories with my late mom after the local news at 12:30. The simple times of life, I didn’t have a worry in the world .
This was a beautiful intro. Those days of soaps over. Its sad.
The music INSTANTLY took me back to my childhood. Such a wonderful, carefree time. One of my favorite shows. Thanks so much for this.
Everytime I hear both, it reminds me of getting home from school around 2
One of my favorite soap themes songs. I am glad they finally added a person of color in 1989!!!
...just when it was about to go off the air...lol still great memories.

I love the couple of seconds of Roger escorting his two sisters down the stairs, all three of them dressed to the nines, in 1983-84 intro.
forgive me for sounding sappy but what a beautiful theme i still love to play it on paino
You do not sound sappy at all. What beautiful memories!!
I get choked up listening to this . Wonderful memories !
You have great taste!
not sappy at all. its awesome
This song brings back memories to me! My mom was feeding me lunch while watching it!!

I love the theme to this soap. It reminds me of my mom watching this when I was a child.
The intro at 0:33 is, for me, one of the best intros to a show ever.
This was the only ABC soap that didn't use a fictional town.

New York
Pierre Caron Oh, I see.
"The Best of Everything" was also set in NYC.

1984 to 1988 one make me tear up.
No, that was 1984 until 1987. And now that was the new intro from 1987 until 1989.
It's deninitely kind of sad and make you tear up and feel warm and fuzzy inside I'l admit!
My moms favorite soap opera
BEAUTIFUL!
Marg Helgenberger was in this! I don't remember seeing her on the show but I used to love this soap!
She played Siobhan Ryan

Used to watch this with my Mother . I would even try and play sick to stay home from school . Yes I was a Soap Opera Addict

A lot of good memories watching 😳 these soaps. Growing up... Love the Egde of night. as well
I would love for Justin Deas to play a Evil Man that got Red in Trouble on Orange Is The New Black. He was always an amazing Actor.
Thank you so much!
The intro you have listed as "1984-1988" was only used until April 1987. There are also a few other minor intro updates missing as well.

Who is the actress at 1:58? ... I still remember that part of the beginning
The first opening reminded me of Family Ties. The later openings look like clothing ads.
It is not the original opening though. There were two before the one the poster said was the original opening.
Another great soap never got to see the end my affiliate (ksat) dropped in 87 still miss it gets
“Looooove in the afternoon”.
Who was the actress petting a horse at the 1:38 mark on this video? She's drop dead gorgeous.
