I saw the first Digimon world on Amazon the other day for like 800 usd.. Needless to say, I'm all for some remakes.. Hell, I'd take a 1:1 port at this point.
I've heard of this during the Japanese Digimon anniversary stream. Bandai Namco is indeed watching. The more support the series gets the better chance we have of playing the classics again! Especially that first game.

I'm so gonna buy this game right away. I'm a huge fan of Digimon especially when they mix with horroresque like style. Not gory but still unpleasant. Brings good memories about Tamers and current Ghost Game. Nice to see Bandai did their homework after AppliMonster.
Nice! Yeah, one of the cool things with the battles is that, this game feels more like how the anime portrayed the world. Like how digi- evolutions work.

You’ll be fine, most games are standalone, and all media kind of does its own thing lore-wise. Just go into it understanding that this isn’t necessarily representative of the series as a whole- while series like Tamers and games like Cybersleuth had their dark moments, besides the news anime Ghost Game, I don’t think there’s really been much straight up horror-crossover with Digimon.
Haven't played the game yet, but watched almost every show/movie and played a lot of the games. Every story is self contained (Unless it's obvious like Adevnture + Adventure 02, or weird crossover stuff that happened in shows) so you definitely should get the story itself. Maybe there is some "typical digimon bad guy", like one of the demonlords that might not get explained. So for you it's just a new evil digimon, and long time fans are like: "Oh thats my boy, he's gonna mess with us big time."
I think I read the preorder gift will be available throughout the first month after launch so if you get the game by the end of August you should be good ig that helps you a little
Having played 5 hours of Digimon Survive as a stand alone game it’s a bare-bone tactical grid base game. If you aren’t a fan of Digimon or have so knowledge of the lore you aren’t going to enjoy the game.
Thats the feedback iv been reading. More of visuals than the game itself. So might as well, hold my money for now. I dont want to spend my time keep reading.
Gonna get this game asap after work but I cN already tell that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is going to DECIMATE this game on launch. I just think people have a bad perception of visual novels. They can be very enjoyable games. Maybe if Survive had more gameplay sprinkled in between story bits it wouldn't be as bad? Idk, look fine to me andbim didn't o grind free battles
The free battles open up with the exploration sections, but yeah... to release just before XB3... this is why I wanted to get this out before anything I make for XB3.
The problem is it's not just a visual novel its a terrible one, there are no meaningful character interactions/development from what I've seen, when you chose the correct sentence in a conversation you get some affinity with that character and a ridiculous dialogue that equates to the two characters giving each other double thumbs up and blushing from feeling stupid that they just did that... it's not Persona that's for sure.. it's got great graphics but that's it, even the last boss is just spam attack until its dead. Don't expect a game on the level of Utawarerumono, just similar style.
As I continue going through it, I can see many of your points. With the Utawarerumono reference, I wanted to use that as a style as suggested. That series is really really special... I hope a few of those can make it to the Switch.
Is it laggy on switch? Loading times? Are you playing in docked mode or handheld mode? I want the hand heldness but am hesitant about having a lesser experience compared to pc / console.
The experience isn't lesser, at least from my perspective. The visual look extremely well in docked and handheld. Loading times for me were around 15-20 seconds depending on the circumstance (am I loading a completely new zone / video or am I just moving to the next map). Again, for me it's not a problem, I grew up with the old school tech, so I can wait a few extra seconds. lol. But I would say, if anyone has the PC/Steam release perhaps they can provide more perspective.
If u want to play a digimon game for a first timer I recommend the digimon hackers memory the special edition version that comes woth both hackers memory and cyber sluth. That game was amazing and it has more combat then this game.

Yes, you can enjoy it without being into Digimon before, there is a decent amount of everything, free battles as much as you want and the story is enjoyable, I'm on part 4 and loving it so far
this review is WEAK SAUCE!😜 just playing. thanks for posting. i feel bad for Bandai Namco. They have to go up against Nintendo/ one of the greatest JRPG's franchises of all time. Survive has reading/ visual novel, Xenoblade has awesome cinematics and voice acting to tell their story.
I got bored of the story very quickly & it just didn't grab me. Couldn't care for most of the characters. Found myself wanting to rush through the dialogue as it just bored me. I regret buying the game.
i played this and its not fun to me. would rather play a game instead of reading 70%. only 30% is even gameplay. good thing i didnt buy it and tried it out first. 60 dollars is a high price tag for a mostly visual game. and it took them way more time to make it with the delays. just not for me i guess.

@@Jaugarez also its been found that partner evos can be found in wild mons meaning even if you miss one for the partner agumon you could get it as part of a wild mon down the line as well tho it wont necessarily have the same line as the partner mon
The horror is very Japanese in style. There's no outright blood or gore, rather you get some atmosphere inducing audio with some darker visuals (like a child with hollowed out eyes).
The game has been said to be about 70% visual novel, so very much like Persona. So skipping the visual novel part would be very ill advised if its anything like that as that is pretty much the game.
@@longjawnsilva8877 hell no bro, persona 5 was 90% talking and 10% gameplay. Everybody hyped that game up and when I tried to play it , it was nothing but straight talking for HOURS at a time with minimal to no actual gameplay. Super boring ass game I hated it.

Idk..digimon usually work better on action type game. Making it visual novel is ok but if the pace well enough. This game's pace kinda boring and slow. The plot and story are pretty much basic for a game that got pending and barely survive, no pun intended. Not to mention forcing the cute, high spirited creatures with this depressive tone down survival game with Makoto Shinkai wannabe aestethic is totally off. Their world are not belong to each others. It's like seeing kingdom heart for the 1st time seeing anime character with american cartoon was like wtf. But it is what it is
i agree, the game look decent, but for something that have been planned for years, and called a "passionate works" by the dev, i was hoping for something more, maybe put more gameplay on it?like instead of choosing where we want to go, we can walk arround in chibi mode like corpse party or something i mean i personally love playing vn, but its been awhile since they release a digimon game, so maybe put a gameplay element that can be enjoyed by a lot of people instead making it only for people who like vn?i dont know, this games kinda weird
Idk I think cute elements combined with sad/depressing/horror elements, actually makes for a pretty potent combination. There are tons of succesful games that are styled this way. So I think that's a perspective thing you gotta open up to.

You get evolutions depending on the route your on when you first get tyrannomon that's your champion for agumon until new game plus

Very light. It just uses a darker tone than usual, but it isn't horror.

Well that depends on the person. Imo I am loving the game but I also love my visual novels too.
