El Condor Pasa, “Flight of the Condor”, the original Peruvian composition was without lyrics. It so beautifully describes the majestic flight a Condor that it required no words. Yet, Paul’s lyrical addition, along with the beautiful harmonic voices of Simon & Garfunkel add a contemporary and contemplative layer that blends seamlessly with the original.
When this came out I was twenty and it made me feel like a five year old kid at the beach. I'm seventy five now, and it still makes me feel like a five year old. Us old hippies sure had it going on. Thank you my friends. Peace and love to you both.
I grew up in Latin American countries as a young person. To my knowledge this is only an instrumental composition; there were no lyrics to it. Only the indigenous instruments. Listening to it lifts your spirit so you can soar free, like the wind and the birds. 🦅
Simon and Garfunkel strikes again. There's no way to explain how influential they were in the musical world in those years. So much of it is still perfection, but not shared because styles have changed.
I kid you not. I can spend my entire day just hearing you react to songs. Actually, I have. 😀 Your simplicity and how honest you are emotionally are a few of your wonderful attributes. You have enjoyed many of the Simon and Garfunkel music. El Candor Pasa was one of many that I recommended along with other listeners. If you want to hear a HAPPY SONG, you must close your eyes and listen to 'The 59th Bridge Song". Every time I hear this song, I go back to my childhood days when I would play stickball with all my friends from the block. It was like a United Nations Street. We were all friends whose parents were from different countries and different colors. We enjoyed the innocence of youth and fun. The beauty of friendship is wonderful, isn't it? This is probably the cutest song of Simon and Garfunkel. You will remember what I said. Stay happy.
@@aBeatleFan4everThat's true, he didn't; originally, there were no lyrics to this particular melody. It was part of a larger Peruvian zarzuela (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_c%C3%B3ndor_pasa_(zarzuela)). The link is interesting reading.
I cannot get over how gorgeous a panflute sounds. When I lived in NYC, I could never walk past a street musician playing panflute without stopping for a few minutes.
Beautiful song with Paul Simon creating his lyrics for this version. It is a Peruvian instrumental tune composed in 1913 and has been covered thousands of time with hundreds of different lyrics
"Since then, it has been estimated that, around the world, more than 4,000 versions of the melody have been produced, along with 300 sets of lyrics. In 2004, Peru declared this song to be a part of their national cultural heritage.[1] This song is now considered the second national anthem of Peru. It is the best-known Peruvian tune in the English-speaking world,[citation needed] especially because of a 1970 cover by Simon & Garfunkel, with English lyrics by Paul Simon, on their Bridge over Troubled Water album. Their version is called "El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could)". wikipedia
I haven't heard this beautiful song in a very long time...love your reactions because they are real...can feel how you feel way over here in New Zealand. . . all the best to you both🧡🧡
From the last Simon and Garfunkel album Bridge Over Troubled Water. That album saw the duo go out with a bang. Then Paul Simon went on to a brilliant solo career. My Spanish is not great but I imagine that somewhere in Peru there is a mountain pass (pasa) where the condors fly. If you go back to the very first Simon and Garfunkel album and listen to all the songs they ever released I don't think you'll find a bad one and I guarantee you find many more gems like this.
That Andean flute creates an other-worldly feeling , amazing . The main thing one learns when one sets out to educate themself about anything is HOW LITTLE YOU KNOW And that is the best and most humbling part about it because you realize that millions of people , many of whom you know , knew it long before you " discovered " it .
I have attended two S&G concerts. One when they first became popular, around 1968. The other was on their reunion tour just a few years ago. Both were about 1 and 1/2 hours and all the songs were hits and just fabulous. Their songbook is amazing.
It's not just the words but they always find just the right instrumentation to augment the lovely words and vocals. Like many of the truly greats..... they were a sound all their own.
The Andean flutes give this song its unique feel.. They sound almost unworldly . I have a record of Andean flute music which I play sometimes on quiet mornings in the winter .and go into Zen meditation .
They are a big reason for the bigheartedness of the generation. Moved to see hearts still being moved, and not just locally. "Kathy's Song" popped up at the end, as if to say "Me next!". It may stir memories of England.
Such a lovely song from the best of the best, Simon and Garfunkel. Paul (and Peter Gabriel) were big proponents of 'world music' and helped many musicians around the world.
You, my dear man are not broken. Becoming emotional while listening to music or a song is NOT a malfunction. I would say it is the intent of the artist to make you feel something with their music (an emotional language), and Simon and Garfunkel were true masters of their art. It shows you have an open and receptive heart. P.S. For something of theirs that's a little lighter, might I suggest the 59th Street Bridge Song
I've watched this a few times and I want to share it. You are a beautiful couple. Andrei, I do that with my headphones also. When the volume is all the way up and I still want more.👍
Have heard this song since I was little, and have always loved it. To see the emotion over how beautiful this song is made me feel like I was hearing it for the first time again. All I can say is thank you. Stay well.
I cannot get through this song without bawling my eyes out. When they get to that part "Away, I'd rather be away...." that is the most beautiful piece of music I think I ever heard.
Oh they have many more great songs you will love them all ! Simon and sound like no one else Garfunkel has an Angelic Voice no one Like them not even close !

"How come something that have been so beautiful in the world - and we never have a clue about it...' "For me is the fact that the contrast - that the way they sing, you know, it's in such a delicate way - and then it crush you like a big rock falling from the mountains. In a good way. It's a good crushing. I want to say - have such an impact and it lays heavy but in a way that you know that's exactly what you need. You feel - you listen - you say Oh my God, yes." It is wonderful to discover some wonderful music that you just never knew existed. I am so glad that you two lovely people get to experience all these songs for the first time. When I took beginning guitar lessons, the instructor handed out sheet music for El Condor Pasa for us to learn. The guitar chords are relatively simple, basic progression, but learning the timing/ rhythm was a challenge. For a real treat, I'd recommend a listen to The George Baker Selection perform "Una Paloma Blanca" from 1975. Though it has a similar vibe, It's more upbeat than "El Condor" and has a flute part that soars over the pop melody. It was an international pop hit.
The Group backing them up was called Urubamba (maybe Los Incas in Europe) I have an self titled album from that group. Very Beautiful; worth checking out if it still available

I was born in mid 1960’s. My parents had bought their last album Bridge over Troubled Water which had Bridge over troubled water (the song) as the last track. This song was on that album. I would have been around 6 years old when they played it in the house. Every song on that album is as familiar as the back of my hand. It’s part of my childhood and really part of me and all those songs I can listen to anytime and feel at home. IMO one of the best music albums of all time.
Here's a challenge. The song "I am a Rock" is one of their best - but it isn't as well known so won't be requested as much. I'd be interested to see if you understood the message (that's the challenge). Many Americans don't - but I think you two would. If you react to it I'd suggest the lyrics on the screen with it. 🙂

El Condor Pasa has always been my second favorite Simon and Garfunkel song, ever since I was about 10-11 years old. The gypsy feel of this music, the music of people who wander the land and live with the earth, not forcing the earth to conform to an industrialized way of life has always appealed to me and others as well.

This song was also on BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, along with The Boxer, BOTW, Cecilia, The Only Living Boy In New York City, Song for the Asking. It is truly a Desert Island album.
60s-70s music seems to have got buried under a pile of 90% commercialised junk music, I find it sad todays youth are deprived of that music and real musicianship in thier own generation --
Same here. It makes me happy to see people from the younger generations discover some of the great songs that I grew up with because it’s a shame that that music seems to have fallen by the wayside. What really makes me sad is when I hear reactors say that they’ve never heard such musicianship or poetry or emotional honesty or respect for women in the music they grew up with. I’m not saying that there isn’t good music being produced today, but in the sixties and seventies the competition for airtime was so intense artists had to really deliver the goods in order to succeed, as a rule, with few exceptions. It seems like it’s the other way around nowadays.

I’m not saying that there isn’t good music being produced today, but in the sixties and seventies the competition for airtime was so intense artists had to really deliver the goods in order to succeed, as a rule, with few exceptions. It seems like it’s the other way around nowadays.
