    All I can say is YES!!! Yes, want more videos of this type!!! THIS one along with your blade vs. cavity workability are just so satisfying!
    Full disclosure: I do happen to be an engineer! And if I could get a nickel (I'm here in the USA) for every time I heard "blades just feel so much better" or "why are you using those game improvement monsters? You should be hitting a blade man!" (I'm a +1 index but use game improvement irons).
    Thank you Mr. Crossfield. Been a view and subscriber for a long time, but this brought out the commenter in me!

    Loved the test! For me, I use forged blades now and I think you can feel a difference, purely that I feel every shot. Good or bad, when I mess about with my friends cast taylormade clubs I have no clue how I have hit them. So my idea of forging doesn’t mean softer it’s just a feedback cast clubs don’t offer

    • @jakemckeown9961
      @jakemckeown9961 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      paul harrison dead on man. So technically if you don’t feel that bad feedback for a toe or heel strike. Then that should make it forgiving? But as soon as you hit a forged or blades iron you have the instant feedback and you are like oh I miss hit that. Don’t get me wrong you can feel that miss hits of a cast iron. But not as badly as a forged iron.

    Love the video and content Mr. Crossfield and co. Played golf for 20+ years and quit last year due to medical issues. I have missed it and just this week I have been trying to get back in there with severely diminished swing speed (96+mph 6 iron to 70+mph) the golf journey I am on is very different than I hoped but your videos have always been fun and could possibly be one of the reason I am looking to get stuck in again.

    The term “feel” is used in a broad sense, not restricted to touch but rather all the senses, perceptions and even emotions. Therefore when someone says it “feels” different they are describing the full package. I am not surprised that we cannot feel (touch only) the difference in this example. I recently had my first club fitting (after many, many years of playing) and I struggled to really feel (touch only) a difference between club heads and shaft changes (and I would say I have a sensitive hand as I am a commercial helicopter pilot...helicopters are very sensitive). But in the end, using all available information I do feel a difference, or rather I “feel” a different experience.
    Great stuff guys, great stuff!

    In the 1980s, Honma made sets of what were cast blades. They certainly felt softer than most forged blades at the time, particularly Mizunos. They also could be adjusted more easily. Perhaps more a metallurgy question than a golf question

    It is funny how our preconceived ideas of how equipment is suppose to work, influences what we "feel". All things being equal (spin, loft, cg, strike), it boils down to vanity. Excellent content Mark, I learned something new.

    Really great video, thanks. The conclusion I am drawn to is: "feel" = looks and sound.
    I have an old golf book written by David Graham, who discusses golf club design. He says that ultimately if you look down on a club and don't like its look, you won't hit it as well.
    Have seen many tests where the sound is criticised. So if the looks are personally pleasing, and the sound is nice = a great feeling club!

    This validates what I am experiencing. I have player in sequence Mizuno MX 200 forged irons to Mizuno MP 32 irons to Titleist ZB irons.... I recently switched to Nike VR Full Cavity due simply to the looks of them. They honestly feel the softest of any of the previous sets and they are the only cast set. I even made the comment to my father this week as we were on vacation and got in 4 rounds, how shocked I was to how soft they feel compared to my previous sets. Very interesting video, love it!

    Great video ... definitely goons to share it with some friends who think they can feel the difference. You have made a few comments about this in the past (feel is mostly sound) so I actually tested it myself just using headphones... I obviously knew which was which because I wasn’t blindfolded but, I was honestly unable to feel any difference without being able to hear impact

  • @dfg_2
    @dfg_2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! I so wanted Coach to just pipe them down the middle. The eyes can deceive you Luke. One thing I noticed when I started playing golf was the feel of making contact. When I played baseball I knew when I hit a ball well when I heard the crack but felt almost nothing. With golf it seems like there is almost always some sort of feel; toe, heel, high, low. Even when you sweet spot a driver you feel something different. Of course maybe if I didn't have all the different feels I would be better than I am???

  • @chrisevans-zh6hg
    @chrisevans-zh6hg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very interesting as I consider options for replacement irons. Having come down 10 shots in 18 months to be at 10. I am looking for some forgiveness but more workability. What this and some other of your videos tells me is to try lots of clubs and shafts and find what ‘feels’ and works best and consider blending too. Off for some fittings I think.

    This type of insight is why I like your channel above the rest of TH-cam golf output. I am sure it is almost impossible for you to consistently know which type of club you hit, if you remove the sense of sight and sound. It would be great to set up an experiment with a group of professional golfers and publish the results. The manufacturers would hate it!

    Great strikes boys! As someone who has tried it just blind, it's not easy.
    Sound and tactile feel through the hands is what feel is all about IMHO. Once you've hit a million or so balls (20 years of most days golf and practice) it is all the senses making the determination but for weekend warriors ... not so much.

    Really great video. As I've come back to the game with 15yrs off, use to be a 6.5 Project X AP2 / Taylormade C300 cavity blade player, then last year a Regular Flex Callaway CF-16 bomb-ball player, and now this year a weakened loft Mizuno Hot Metal Pro Dynamic Gold 120 S300 player, and finally a guy who hangs out on the range, helps some people and swamps clubs etc, I absolutely agree with this video - the word FEEL is not FEEL, it is a summary term used to describe a lot of things which are only feel if it's 0 Celsius and you hit a frozen range ball off the toe of a bladed 4iron with an X shaft - because that feels like you need to visit a dentist. We can feel overall club weight, we can feel swing weight, we can feel a big or small grip, we can feel hitting 3 groves low, hitting it way in the toe or heel. If you have a lot of practice, these feelings are quickly confirmed by the 'sound' of impact and then the first .5 second of the ball leaving the face - we wrap these all together and like coach we call this feel. We do feel the location a ball hits - far more so with a muscle back blade than a massive game improvement iron because of GQ / face dampening - possibly also graphite shaft and grip dampening as well. Your ears feel sound waves - so in that way we also feel soft forged clubs being softer than clicky cast distance irons. Make Ears Great AGain - embrace your feelings.

    Great test! I'm 18hc and playing blades (Miura MC 501) for 1 month now. I play them better... Anyway, They play the same as my old M1s, except on mishits, which give me a lot of feedback on the blades (so eventually I end up with a better strike?). The M1s were straight and the blades are twitchy - think about turning it and the ball goes there. I think ball flight can be a big difference. And dispersion when well hit is better for me. The biggest difference is that the blades are shiny and more, well, shiny. And the sound!
    I don't really know why I play them better except the turf interaction is really nice and I tend to focus on a centre strike more. Unless I want to hit it on another part of the club of course. Thanks for the great vid. All of your vids :)
