    This guy is a legend. What he said at the end there about not wanting to get worse is spot on. I was playing off 8 for years. This winter I decided I wanted to improve from there and knew I’d have to make radical changes to get better. Yes I got a lot worse and I’ve played some awful golf for a while but just this week it all clicked and now I’m striking it better and getting much more distance. Most golfers aren’t prepared to go through the crap to improve. They have a lesson and it doesn’t work the first week so go straight back to what they were doing before. What’s the point of that?
    Top quality content these videos. Massive thumbs up Mark 👍

      @richo2501 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can only do what you've done if you have complete trust in your coach/PGA pro. If you don't, getting worse is not where you want to get to. On the other hand if yu trust them and they get it wrong, they could screw you up for a really long time. Golf coaches can get it wrong too so it's a tightrope with finding the right solution.

    • @MrOitoyboy
      @MrOitoyboy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richo good point. I think also one of the main problems is practice. Personally I go most nights to the club and hit 50-100 balls and work on what I’m trying to change. Most of the guys I play with don’t have the time to practice. Families and work just don’t allow it. Some just don’t have the inclination to practice either. They want to go for 1 lesson and half an hour later all their problems, golf wise are solved. Golf isn’t like that. You want to get better, you gotta work on it.
      I find having yearly bets on handicap reductions with my mates is also a good incentive 😀

    • @locobenno9435
      @locobenno9435 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richo2501 I hear you mate, long story short what I have is homemade and functional but when I went for a lesson a few years back it set my game back so badly....I don't regret much in my life but taking that lesson was probably 2 years of wasted time - and I'm a middle-aged man so my top-speed-low-handicap golf clock is ticking loudly....anyway these days I keep myself well informed (thanks to Crossfield and co), I get fit regularly and make sure the equipment I use suits the game I have rather than changing what I can't....and the good news is the hcp is as low as its ever been and I've never since had to struggle with that sentence starter "you should....."

    🤣🤣🤣 I can't believe I have the same issue! Came to the realization that I wasn't turning my shoulders enough with the driver, and once I started making a bigger turn, I was actually driving it farther, and STAIGHTER! Figured I should be doing it with the irons as well, and almost killed the person next to me at the range!

    I'm going through the exact same thing lately. A deeper turn with the driver and I'm hitting it better and farther than ever. The same type of swing with my irons is great on the LM, and terrible on the course.

I would love an even more detailed discussion about match ups that help shift path combined with wrist angles and pressure in the ground or really whatever you wanted to explore. Kind of hard to relay exactly what I'm looking for in the written word. Sorry for the awkwardly worded request.

    Mark, I have a question that I'm struggling with. I'm playing off a 7 right now, and I've improved greatly in the 2 years I've been playing. What I want to know is when should I keep trying to implement swing changes and when should I just stick to my swing and practice it? I'm always seeing new ideas and concepts and trying them out but I haven't improved much in the last 6 months. Should I just stay with my swing as it is and just work on making it functional? Thanks for the amazing videos, as always.

    Yes mark, you are annoying 😂😂😂
    I put it down to enthusiasm and the despair ,desperation of trying to get your message through to people who struggle to change.
    Perfectly timed video for me, I've been smashing my driver and getting up to 50 yes gains but haven't been able to hit the simplest iron shot. I've learned that I have to have two speeds of swing but I'm not skilled enough to achieve this. So the last round I played I toned it down a notch to find some middle ground and hit the best score I've made in years.

    I think a common problem for amateurs is that they find it hard to move from “iron mode” to “driver mode” and vice versa. I know for me if I’m driving well my iron play is off, if my drivers off I’m hitting good irons. It’s noticeable down the range as well, hit 30 driver and go back to a mid iron, it feels quite alien.

      Defo. I was off the week before Pebble so no real chance of making it work. To be honest I play and make changes to learn as a coach more than I do to play better. My play is worse than it was when I played full time as a 17 year old so it’s all about the sandwiches now and learning for me.
      I love that people think I really care about how I play. It’s cute that they think that way even though it’s not really what this is about. Sometimes I think the audience struggle to separate their ideas from what they are watching which is the real fun of making content for me. 👍👍👍👍👍

    Wow, Pebble Beach play was terrible. Very surprised, but I won't give up on you :)

    This is as good as it gets. Appreciate it's probably difficult logistically, with with people's time, but more videos with guys like Mark would be great. Also, how about letting Mark have a look at the Mighty Leader's swing?! #army

      Me too. He's from Surrey, England, but sounds like his accent has been influenced by working in America.

    Great video mark, I think people have just bought into your negativity to playing bad golf, and are seeing it as bad sportsmanship with dan when in fact your just trying to say/show us Average Golfer’s what it takes to try and gain yards and improve on strokes gained, I’m stuck in a bit of a rut at 13 and this has inspired me to get some more lessons instead of buying more and more gadgets clubs etc
    P.S love the heads off cartoon, keep having em shows us all even Parfield has Mares on course

    Mark, I think you think to much. Get up to the ball focus on the target and keep it simple. Also over at Pebble everything seemed rushed. Slow down, relax and focus.
