They did give assist to our soldiers for technical/drones to locate the terrorists, but the operation is mainly composed of Philippine special forces specially the ground troops, naval, and the air force. Almost all the documentaries show that our troops are the one who fought the terrorists, and thus we can conclude that Duterte do accept the help of other nations (technical, arms, etc.) but he let our soldiers do the fight. Well, we all know that our soldiers are battle tested so they can do the operation. It's just that they have no modern weapons and the terrorists have hostages that they made as human shield so the soldiers need to penetrate the city through ground force. Also, our troops can not strike the mosque where the terrorists hide for the respect of their religion. These are one of the factors why the battle of marawi took many months before it ended. Because if there are no hostages, no mosque where the terrorists are hiding, then it is easier for our troops to bomb the whole area until all the terrorist are eradicated. The battle of Marawi is one of the examples why our AFP need modern weapons. Because if we have modernized weapons, then we no longer need the help of other nations to locate the terrorists, and our troops can be independent since they are very familiar with battle tactics and how to fight those terrorists. Good thing, the government is focusing in upgrading the weapons of AFP and thus, if there is insurgency happening next time (but we hope that it will not happen again), then our troops can lead the fight without the help of other nations. Salute to our soldiers who fought for the freedom of Marawi!
True, the Philippine Army that fought the Maute even has Muslim soldiers within their ranks. This is a political issue and the insurgents were trying to justify their violence with religion when the truth is they wreaked havoc in a Muslim city where most of the victims were Muslims themselves.
