In this episode of The Ranveer Show, we welcome Tilak Devasher, an author, and a retired Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat of the Government of India. He is currently serving as a National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) member and a consultant for Vivekanand International Foundation. He is the author of three widely known books based on Pakistan; ‘Pakistan: Courting the Abyss’ (December 2016), ‘Pakistan: At the Helm’ (July 2018), and ‘Pakistan: The Balochistan Conundrum’ (July 2019).
Today, Tilak Devasher decodes Pakistan’s current situation and also sheds light on what happened during the partition of India & Pakistan. He talks about the history of Pakistan, the real story behind the India & Pakistan Partitions, his honest opinion on present-day India, and what could have been different if the partition didn’t take place. He further dwells upon Muhammad Ali Jinnah and how he led to the partition. Along with that, Tilak sir talked about the present scenario of Pakistan and what is the situation of non-Muslims in Pakistan.
This was an in-depth conversation about the India and Pakistan partition and how it happened. We also talked about the geopolitical scenario of Pakistan. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did and tell us your opinions in the comments!

The speaker is wrong when he says, to which sect a Muslim in Pakistan belongs to is more important to him than Islam. Those differences may be 1% but what they agree on are 99%. They all define themselves as Muslims, they call themselves Muslims and they all say they are Pakistanis. Some people, because of ignorance or bad intentions, try to divide Muslims between Sunni, Shia, Barelvi, Daubundi. As far as sects & castes are concerned, there are much, much more in India and with wider differences.

Lots of accurate points but a bit of double standards evident.
1)The claim that Jinnah promoted violence after the Cabinet Mission Plan of 1946 is contradictory, as Jinnah himself accepted the plan after years of failed negotiations. It makes little sense for him to incite violence to "show the British that we are different" AFTER agreeing to the plan. Interestingly, the historian omits the fact that it was NEHRU WHO REJECTED the plan, even though accepting it could have prevented a complete division by establishing a confederation, which was the best possible chance in the polarized situation of the populace at that time and against the interests of these desires of the crown to divide.
2)The assertion that the ruling Muslim elite sought a separate country due to the loss of power since the Mughal era is flawed. The Mughals had been gone for a long time, and Muslims played a significant role in the 1857 War of Independence, facing British retaliation. While British policies did exploit divisions, the polarization between Muslims and Hindus had deep roots. The Muslim elite didn't suddenly realize in the 1940s that their power was gone; it was a gradual process that led to this realization.

great interview..this coming from a pakistani...the points i want to add are
    (1) in 1937, congress got power n it showed inclination towards hindus ...it was a glimpse of the future if hindus are in majority,,they will not spare muslims...current indian government is proving it again too.
    (2) muslim was defined and agreed by all in 1970s and qadianis were declared non muslim as they dont consider prophet Muhammad peace be upon him as last prophet.
    (3) grandson of nawab of qallat in an interview on geo channel( its on you youtube) said that my grand father told us that he saw prophet Muhammad peace be upon him in his dream n he asked to vote for Pakistan...
i agree to all other things that sir said in this podcast...its a learning for me as a pakistani..im a pashtun n respect abdul ghaffar khan too.

There are VERY VERY VERY important lessons for India of 2023 in this 36-minute-long video. You cannot define a country by a single religion.
Any attempt to do so will only result in spectacular failure because the human brain will always find a way to differentiate between two things which look absolutely similar.
India can only be made strong when people accept each other's differences & take advantage of those differences to reach the same goal.

I'm Pakistani and I have never seen a "Qaida" like the one mentioned in the video. And the definition of Islam is written in constitution of Pakistan. According to which one is Muslim if he believes that there is no God except Allah and Muhammad P.B.U.H is the last prophet of Allah. So, this is the reason why Qadiyani are declared as Kafir. Because they believe that Mirza Qadiyani is also a prophet after Muhammad S.A.W.W.
There are some molvis who call shia as Kafir and brailvi sunni as Kafir. But now the new generation has realized this trap of this type of mindset. We consider everyone as a Muslim whether he/she is shia or sunni. And this type of mindset is currently in all levels of youth and in those who understand Islam in real meanings.

While most, not all, facts seem to be correct, the interpretation is flawed. Lets start with Jinnah.
Jinnah was an ardent Indian nationalist till 1930, when Mr Gandhi began to saffronize Congress and Muslim League was divided, Jinnah left politics and india and settled in England, bought a house and started his practice. This is not ambition for leadership, it’s actually a proof of his sincerity. Gokhele called Jinnah ambassador of Hindu Muslim unity. As did Sarojini Naidu. Many prominent Hindus and Sikhs admired Jinnah.
The idea of separate state for Muslims was first articulated by Iqbal. Google Allahabad address. Yes, same Iqbal who penned “sarae jahan se acha Hindustan hamara”. Iqbal was compelled to change his mind when he saw congress was controlled by Hindus who had no interest in Muslim welfare. Shuddi Sangatthan movement was in ascendency.
It took Iqbal three years to convince Jinnah of two nation policy for Muslim league. In 1935 Jinnah accepted to return on condition five prominent leaders of ML must invite him.
The true colors of Congress came to light after winning 1937 provincial elections when Muslims were treated as third class citizens. This cemented the idea of Pakistan.
Muslims don’t believe in nationalism or ethnicity, the only uniting force is Islam. This was the basis and the binding glue of Pakistan. Nations rise and fall in history. So the current challenge Muslims face is something which all nations have faced in history. Mankind is a work in progress. Muslims ruled over subcontinent for centuries when binding force was Islam.
Why ML leaders didn’t go to jail? Jinnah was not an agitator, his world was victory in court rooms based on jurisprudence, not on the streets by mob action. The direct action day was a peaceful show of force Bcos British refused to follow their own law. It was an exception. Forces opposed to ML caused the chaos and violence.
BTW, this writer was born, raised and educated in India. So don’t go blaming Pakistan or Mullah or religion. Facts are stubborn thing.
I don’t agree with the speaker at all. He is twisting all facts to suit his preconceived ideas. But it’s his show, he can say whatever he wants.

It was a complete partition because India was a country open to everyone. Pakistan viewed hindus and muslims as different nationalities but India didn't use the same criteria to define nationality. So some people chose India over Pakistan. Wow!!! An Indian saying Pakistan's problem is that its ethnic groups were historically never part of a single state. Yeah but India with God knows how many ethnic groups has always been a single entity. The 4 major ethnic groups of Pakistan have a shared history.
Here are a few facts that you can check for yourself, there are more Balochs living in Punjab than the entire population of Balochistan. There are more Pushtuns in Karachi Sindh than in Peshawar & Kabul combined.
And Kalat was one of the 4 princely states that became part of the current province of Balochistan. Kharan, Lasbela, and Makran acceded to Pakistan before 47, and Quetta, the current capital of the province, and the entire northern part of the province was part of British India's Chief Commisoners Province and its Municipality and Jirga leaders chose Pakistan. Pakistan bought Gwadar from Oman in 50's. And no Without Quetta and the 3 princely states, Kalat would not have shared a border with oil-rich Iran, rather it would have been enclosed within the territory of Pakistan from all sides, so was not feasible.

I want to correct disinformation here.
Kalat was one of many princely states in province of Balochistan.
    It was not entire Balochistan.
It was a small princely state in the middle of Balochistan.
The border of iran was connected to other princely states in Balochistan like kharan, makran and Lasbela.
These 3 princely states acceded to Pakistan.
    Kalat was hesitant to accede.
What kind of historian he is.
Either he is not clear about Map of british india or he deliberately want people to confuse princely state of Kalat with province of Balochistan to support indian state's media disinformation.

You think religion is the issue? No. Pakistan may say religion is mixed with politics, but when you look at ground reality (which I assume you haven’t) you’d come to the conclusion that by all practical means, Pakistan is a secular country because there is no regulation of religion as is seen in countries like UAE and KSA which have religion with politics/govt. The mosques aren’t under regulation of any govt (just like a secular country). You know how free market economics allows exchange of goods without govt regulation? Similarly, that is the case of religion in Pakistan. There is no regulation so it tends to make its way every where which I am against. I don’t believe religion is inherently something you keep to yourself, but there are boundaries

Dude. Talk less and let your guests speak more. Thats why we see these clips. Not to see you speak. Come to the point/question quickly. It takes a long time for you to understand. Guests hv to dumb it down for you. Pick it up man. Pick it up. Speak less and let them speak more. Thats the essense of podcast.

As a Muslim, let me asure u that Islam does not allow anyone to hurt himself/herself or anyone else, that event u reported that man cutoff his own arm, could be true but its not Islam. I have never seen in my life being a Pakistani, any such incident of chopping hands.
Also, Islamization doesn't mean brutality. The problem with us(Pakistanis) is that we love our religion but we don't know much about Islam, nor the so called ulmas and mulvis teach us since this is their business and if they start teaching real Islam, their business will be shut down. Islam says no society can prevail without justice, a muslim should speak truth thats what Prophet Muhammad presented to us. Muslims are required to stand for what is right. But we do different. So if Pakistan is Islamized, no power on earth can stop Pakistan to prosper.

Thank God that we got Pakistan , Once Quaid e Azam said that the muslims who will stay in India and will not come to Pakistan , they will have to prove their loyalty to hindus for the rest of their life, that's whats is going on India, Watever we are facing in Pakistan , we are okay, at least we do not have to show our loyalty to anyone, we are absolutely free .
