This classic intro was recorded on a Lowrey DSO-1 (1964 vacuum tube & neon organ) but I'm seeing how well I can imitate it on a TLO-1! (1968 solid state organ)
What's funny is that this is not the organ used on the record. The one they used is the one to the side that I showed at the beginning, a DSO-1 (currently being serviced). But they are made by the same company, and the voicing can be set very similarly.
My Dad bought one of these in later late 1960's. We were lower middle class and it was a big deal. My Dad was never one to want anything for himself. Less than 6 months later he had a massive stroke leaving his right side paralyzed. The organ just sat in the corner after that. It's sadder to me now than it was back then.
They had SO MANY instruments available to them; that's why. Because of their popularity, people were throwing instruments at them in hopes of getting their products on their next record. Imagine being a company back then-whether you made guitars, keyboards, drums, etc.-if you could say, "The Beatles use this", it'd be a HUGE sales pitch.
Omg that sounds soooo good❤ I wish the video was Longer I’d love to see this being played like this and the full song on it ❤John would be proud❤❤❤LOVE U BEATLES ❤❤❤
We all laugh at March Polka, but I would like to remind you that at one point, it was considered serious enough to include on an instrument that would have cost the same as new car.
Why HASN’T Arturia done a digital software version of a Lowrey? Aside from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the other famous song to use a Lowrey Organ was Baba O’Riley by The Who
That's pretty laser-pointed accurate to the sound, man, yeah. I feel like they might have put it through a Leslie or added a touch more vibratto somehow, though? It's probably documented, of course, so forgive me I'm wrong, but it sounds a bit more quavering on the original.
JESUS I fell out of my chair with the marching drum and the perfectly dry “no not really” 😂😂😂
Glad you liked it 😂
You laugh, but I have some keyboards that can only make certain sound combos by turning on the accompaniment to force a voicing. Totally had me going.
How didn't I stepped here before? It sounds really really dead on! I was waiting John's voice to step in but then the video ended

@@hphpackardlowrey2776 Yep, I guess they hold similar tone generators and filters, so, I guess that's why it is possible to nail the tone
I pictured myself in a boat, but instead of a river, I was on a lake.
That is spot on! I also like the gag with the drum machine 😂
This is by far the best recreation I've ever heard, even if not on the same model. Bravo!
It goes to show you how iconic The Beatles will always be.

You never played?
We sold it@@ThisUsernameSystemF-ckingSucks
I’m so sorry that happened
@@thace622 it was a pivotal point in our family for sure. That organ was a reminder to me of his stroke.
Now I wanna know who's idea was it to blend those 3 noises in particular , and why this thing was only featured on Lucy In the Sky
On the original DSO-1, it was slightly different: Harpsichord, Music Box, and Guitar I think.
Acid. A LOT of acid. lol

YAAAAA LETS GOO SO GOOD FRR ONE OF MY FAV SONGS
Damn now I need to listen to the full song
I got goosebumps. It’s uncanny how accurate to the original that is.
great video ✌

the march sounded like a fucking metal drummer on a TR-68
Can we have a little more please?
Amazing!!!
I just found a TLO-R model, that has all of these registers besides the kinura. how genuine would it sound without that register?
Not quite as good but still pretty good. I have a TLO also, it's nice.

yeah but that Farfisa preset "Lucy" does the job
@@paninovevo1162 Interesting, but can it do Baba O’Riley?
Sounds just like from Sgt. Pepper.
PICTURE URSELF IN A BOAT ON A RIVER

march polka sounds like speed meal.
You can tell the tubes add a certain warmth to the sound.
It's a transistor organ, but Lowrey designed it to imitate the sound of their tube organs from just a couple years prior.
I have an old ELKA Capri 101 that does basically the same sound.
I think there should be a sound pack of this instrument.
A new one or an old "worn out" one?
@@KC9UDX a 'new' one, I want to hear how it sounds like brand new
@@YuutaShinjou113 then, even if you could, you might have to write a one-off emulator to really get all the sounds you can from one of these.
They should sound about the same if operating correctly.

Awesome video. It took 32 seconds for you to finally play the chorus.
But who’s counting? 😮…he was busy being a comedic genius 😂
I have a Gibson g101 (made by lowrey) that can do it perfectly.
Was the marching drum a reference to something or were you just being funny?
just the most absurd setting on the drum machine lol
It doesn't sound like Lucy in the sky at all without the march polka
Picture yourself in a boat on a river..
na i like the march polka better lol
Eh screw Hammonds and jazz organs
It's just a synthesizer. The magic is in how you use em.
