I didn't specifically mention it in the video, but the condenser that is attached to the backside of the regulator helps increase its life and also limits radio interference, so it should be tested with a capacitance tester and replaced if necessary.

Packard Rear Ashtray Repair (55-56 Hardtops)

This is a quick video showing how I improved the look of my rusted and pitted rear ashtrays on my 55 400. The 55-56 Clippers ashtrays are slightly different but the process is the same. For cleaning the armrest itself, I used Meguiar's Leather & Vinyl Cleaner and Meguiar's Leather Conditioner, with Mothers VLR for conditioning the vinyl.

American Flyer trains of the 1950s used these vibrator tubes for their "Air Chime Whistles". Trains run on 60hz and the tubes send 600hz through the track which is picked up by a speaker in the locomotives. These whistle tubes are all going on 70 or more years old and more often than not they don't work. I have a few torn apart on my work bench and this video will definitely be helpful in repairing them.

It IS the same organ. The difference is the Beatles passed it through an EQ. But this is the exact organ and registration used.
Trying to fix our TLO-1 If you have a service manual share it, got a terrible hum. Recapped the psu amp. Worked better then now its starting to blow fuses. Perhaps ust do button resistors next. Could be grounding.

Hello! Good work! But what to do when this radio can receives only MW/LW bands? There are lots of EMI noise in cities and towns - because LED lighting on streets. Next to each lamp post there will be buzzing from a speaker.I mean an night and evening.
The radio alignment process makes it so it will reject any stray frequencies coming through the antenna, but if there are frequencies being picked up by the car chassis these can get picked up as they are not adequately filtered by the radio circuitry. Do you have all the recommended suppression capacitors installed? See your car service manual and/or radio owner's manual for where to put them.
@@hphpackardlowrey2776 To reject EMI noise in your car's radio DC/DC converter, I would first change two electrolytic capacitors to new low-ESR capacitors at 22 uF and 400 volts (I mean 2 capacitors after the rectifier). This update must usually helps - because old electrolytic capacitor usually "dry" and therefore does not have capacitance: you can hear loud "rrrr" from the radio speaker in any position of loudness regulator. Secondly, if it has not helps, I would checking the rectifier: are the both diodes working properly? If not - I would change the vacuum rectifier on the HER307 semiconductor diodes.
I have an old ELKA Capri 101 that does basically the same sound.
I have a Gibson g101 (made by lowrey) that can do it perfectly.

I trust you on the fact that this is the model they used and this does sound similar (pre-mix and master ofc) but man the TLO sounded EXACTLY the same (even pre-prod-mix-master). Man you should definitely start making longer videos where you show these old synths/organs/mellotrons etc, you sound like you could be hilarious, entertaining and informative.

Except that no two of them sound the same anymore, none of the early Lowrey models sound radically different than another. I'm pretty sure there was a ton of processing on the sound (not surprising anyway) It was suggested to me to play this with an exaggerated stacatto. I haven't tried that but it seems reasonable.
@@KC9UDX I'm not sure what you mean by "exaggerated stacatto" as I am already playing staccato.
@@hphpackardlowrey2776 barely pressing the keys so the attack doesn't have time to finish. I don't know if that even works on these organs (I'll try it if I ever get a chance), but it does on FM synths.
@@KC9UDXThe attack on these is instant but there is an optional slow attack stop which I did not use in this video.

That's pretty laser-pointed accurate to the sound, man, yeah. I feel like they might have put it through a Leslie or added a touch more vibratto somehow, though? It's probably documented, of course, so forgive me I'm wrong, but it sounds a bit more quavering on the original.

Why HASN’T Arturia done a digital software version of a Lowrey? Aside from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the other famous song to use a Lowrey Organ was Baba O’Riley by The Who

You can tell the tubes add a certain warmth to the sound.
It's a transistor organ, but Lowrey designed it to imitate the sound of their tube organs from just a couple years prior.

On the original DSO-1, it was slightly different: Harpsichord, Music Box, and Guitar I think.

They had SO MANY instruments available to them; that's why. Because of their popularity, people were throwing instruments at them in hopes of getting their products on their next record. Imagine being a company back then-whether you made guitars, keyboards, drums, etc.-if you could say, "The Beatles use this", it'd be a HUGE sales pitch.

Not quite as good but still pretty good. I have a TLO also, it's nice.
My Dad bought one of these in later late 1960's. We were lower middle class and it was a big deal. My Dad was never one to want anything for himself. Less than 6 months later he had a massive stroke leaving his right side paralyzed. The organ just sat in the corner after that. It's sadder to me now than it was back then.

What's funny is that this is not the organ used on the record. The one they used is the one to the side that I showed at the beginning, a DSO-1 (currently being serviced). But they are made by the same company, and the voicing can be set very similarly.

Very helpful. I will try and get my '54 Panama clock running. The one thing I don't have is a benchtop power supply, so I'll have to figure something out.
