Favorite Swimming Lakes in Grand Teton -- Phelps Lake, String Lake, and Jackson Lake!

Grand Teton National Park has a lot of different lakes and there are some great hiking trails and things that you can do in this park, but one of my favorite things to do in Grand Teton is to get on the water and go swimming, canoeing, or stand-up paddle boarding.
I’m sharing three of my favorite lakes to go swimming at in Grand Teton. I’m also talking you through how to get to these lakes and explaining the boating permits and decals you might need if you plan on enjoying the lakes at Grand Teton during your visit!

Thanks for the info! When do Leigh and String lakes typically thaw enough for kayaking? Visiting mid-end of May

By the end of May, you should be ok, at least at String Lake. Leigh Lake takes a little longer :)

It’s so unfortunate that Teton allows noisy, polluting motorboats on the lakes. If you have ever swam in a glacier lake that doesn’t allow this you would see a huge difference in water quality. It’s like swimming in the most clean water you’ve ever tasted.

Luckily, there are still lakes in the park that don't allow motorboats so you can still swim in a glacier lake!
