"they scried so hard, but in the ennnnnd it doesn't even matter" I literally went to a random part of the video and landed on that lmao. Made my morning!
this is the actual tier 1 combo deck in the format. it's got the speed and power, but unlike most of the other combo decks in Standard, it's resilient enough to pull out wins even against disruption effects.
it loses hard to sideboarded in graveyard hate and counterspells since it can't play a lot of answers for those due to deckbuilding constraints. It's a BO1 deck.
@@sawyermifsud852 You can switch out the deck via the sideboard and play games (as I've seen with some of the decklists on MTGDecks), but frankly I disagree that this is tier 1. This deck hasn't done squat for me in BO1. It needs a golden hand and some luck to keep up with Boros or Mono Red.
I played this combo deck and ranked from plat to mythic in 1 day. A couple of suggestions. Spelunking is INSANE in this deck for comboing off. Also the turtle is a great addition because it puts a ton more lands in the graveyard and ramps and adds a blocker. Also this deck felt better at 70 cards just because of the amount of self mill.
Below is the deck I used to rank up. Differs in many way from CGBs. Mono Red was the only deck I really had difficulty with. Boros anything was no real problem. Control was pretty easy, most Mid-Range was pretty easy. A few comments on key differences. Shigeki won me a TON of games in the mid-late game, Chandra was a great finisher as well as kept the board clear, the 1 of Doppelgang was just.....fun....have you ever 1 shot a boros opponent by making 4 copies of a warleaders call along with 12 other creature copies :) Splendid rec is awesome for ramping but also was a life saver in the late game due to the amount of life you get from fetch lands. Deck 2 Virtue of Strength (WOE) 197 4 Island (LTR) 265 2 Shigeki, Jukai Visionary (NEO) 206 4 Aftermath Analyst (MKM) 148 2 Nissa, Resurgent Animist (MAT) 22 1 Doppelgang (MKM) 198 9 Forest (LTR) 271 4 Spelunking (LCI) 213 4 Memory Deluge (MID) 62 2 Ill-Timed Explosion (MKM) 207 2 Slogurk, the Overslime (MID) 242 4 Blossoming Tortoise (WOE) 163 2 Otawara, Soaring City (NEO) 271 1 Boseiju, Who Endures (NEO) 266 4 Restless Vinestalk (WOE) 261 4 Brokers Hideout (SNC) 248 3 Cabaretti Courtyard (SNC) 249 3 Riveteers Overlook (SNC) 255 4 Worldsoul's Rage (MKM) 244 4 Mountain (LTR) 269 2 Light Up the Night (MID) 146 2 Splendid Reclamation (VOW) 221 3 Maestros Theater (SNC) 251 2 Chandra, Hope's Beacon (MOM) 134
This deck may just have to sacrifice a bit of consistency to get everything it wants for more cards. Spelunking, blossoming tortoise, slogurk . Maybe this is the new 80 card pile.
No misers copy of Doppelgang? Kinda serves the role of a 5th rage. If you can't win it can stabilize the board by making a few blockers, it can ramp you, and if you're at the point where you could rage them out you can typically win with Doppelgang. It's not quite as good as a literal 5th rage but it does add a bit of flexibility and Doppelgang hitting a virtue is too funny,
It's also really good vs those cards that can kill every copy of a card in your deck, having a backup copy of doppelgang to win with instead after they exile all your rage's has saved me a few times. And sometimes being able to doppelgang your virtue is fun when 50 mana isn't enough. :)
I never played hearthstone and Rarran sucked me into that sphere and after your videos with him you have successfully brought me into the world of Magic that I only vaguely remember my cousin having these really cool adult looking cards back in the 90s
I had the idea a few weeks ago to use Virtue of Strength in one of these combo decks, but I hadn't built it yet. Also, I hadn't realized that with 2x VoS, tapping a basic gives 9 mana!
Ran into this deck before I saw this video and I had a feeling I knew what was up so I kept exiling the 2cmc mill land creature with my Urza planes Walker I got on turn 5. Then just controlled the game from then on in Diamond Ranked tier.
First thought about the graveyard combo decks in the meta: seems like a one- or two-of Calamity's Wake is an easy answer in any white deck, especially control piles (looking at you, CGB).
Lotus Cobra and Nyxbloom Ancient also make this fun. Doppelgang and Mirror Box so having 100 Slogurk and 8 Nissa… Been playing something similar but not sure about your variant. I’m sure any incarnation of this is great fun.
@@meadowgrain Agree 100%, without the sac lands this strategy in this form is simply dead. You need lands that go back in the bin for free, otherwise you simply put all your lands into play and you have one small infusion of mana and not a recurring mana engine.
Probably you can run a less powerful version with Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse and Escape Tunnel. Not as effective because of the tap and the lifegain they give is underrated
@@demianrusso2499That version is only worse if you are against aggro and if you are in a matchup where your opponent starts to exile your sac lands, then you can simply not sac them and wait for the right timing.
I actually didn’t watch evangeleon until last summer. I know that song from Bayonetta Also, singing that song while you pop off is a vibe and I love it
My first time against the deck I had surprise lifegain to steal the last turn I needed against them. Naturally, they surprised me with the cast/flashback Galvanic Iteration and my math stopped mattering anymore.
would it still be worth to craft some of these cards that are rotating out in the near future? I think memory deluge, nissa and the kamigawa lands are all rotating out and since im pretty new and limited on resources Idk, but the deck looks like a lot of fun and i got a lot of the karlov manner cards already.
Sorry to inform you butt you can’t retire. Even when youre clearly just grinding through the grind you have more personality and passion than every other standard magic player. Thanks
Why Vampires' Vengeance over Brotherhood's End? Only because of the less restrictive mana cost, or is there any other reason? EDIT: oh nvm, just noticed Vampires' Vengeance is also at instant speed
When the nuts draw of the best aggro deck includes flashing in 2 1/1 creatures on your end step, then a weaker instant wrath is much better than a stronger sorcery wrath. Also this is mostly a UG deck with a red splash, the mana base would be much more akward if you wanted to be able to play a RR spell on turn 3 and a UU spell on turn 4.
I've seen a couple of timmy combos these days, like Kaya into a flying Yargle, that don't really put a fight against agro Nice to see this deck doing so well
my winrate with my midrange decks is 72% winrate vs boros convoke and 0% winrate in over 10 games vs orzov convoke xD i cant beat that deck ... so i think its really good xD
I'm just going to rant into the abyss. Having spent hundreds of dollars on MTG, I quit. It's too expensive when they should be offering a monthy subscription service for Arena card access. Leave the styles in the shop but stop with the packs. It's dumb. Sunken cost fallacy is a real bitch and I'm over it. That being said, I'll continue to watch these videos because its CGB.
This deck is so annoying in Arena. I understand how it can be fun over the table BUT... the resolves are sooooo slow. Yes, I lose to it frequently but yes it annoys me more than losing to mono red. It's a waste of time. Monored at least isn't.

What about merfolk?
Yet, I never seem to have time to get the combo together in Bo1. It's an ok Bo3 deck though.

This deck breakdown is like a 3 minute TED Talk on game design theory, delivered at speed rap velocity.
The big thing that keeps it from getting countered out in Bo3 is having Galvanic Iteration to copy the Rage, which leads to lots of funnies.

I really like it when CGB talks about next steps if the opponent did not scoop
34:42 "Is gonna be a long time before it rotates" The New Cappena Saclands are gonna rotate later this year.
Just under four months in fact!
"f*ck red adjacent"

Doppel is tech for stone brain effects in bo3 you don't really need more finishers in bo1
Modern Explorers Guild, I hear that place is pretty dope! Thanks CGB

I greatly enjoyed your singing CGB. Unexpected and put a smile on my face, then made me laugh. Thank you for that.
your one-of "fuck mono red" puts such a smile on my face as im eating breakfast its always a surprise mid-chew. ty
Spelunking is an awesome addition to this deck too, all the sac lands come in untapped to continue more shenans
Too bad I’m out of town. I live 2 blocks from MEG! Have fun and thanks to CGB for coming to mid-Michigan to play some Magic!
I had the idea a few weeks ago to use Virtue of Strength in one of these combo decks, but I hadn't built it yet. Also, I hadn't realized that with 2x VoS, tapping a basic gives 9 mana!
the singing in the last game while dunking on them was hilarious :p
Awesome! It was definitely entertaining to get serenaded while watching you landslap people in the face.😂
I feel like the "ill-timed" part of the explosion is a straight up troll. Just imagine Steve Urkel saying "Whoops! Did I do that?"
You know who likes to toss lands and comes in tree/fireball/tear colors? That's right, ya boy borborygmos & fblthp.
Cgb was particularly musical today and thats wonderful
Happy to see a deck containing my favorite three colors rock standard out there!
It's for decks like this that my draw-a-lot-cards decks run a copy each of Stone Brain and Unlicensed Hearse.
Ran into this deck before I saw this video and I had a feeling I knew what was up so I kept exiling the 2cmc mill land creature with my Urza planes Walker I got on turn 5. Then just controlled the game from then on in Diamond Ranked tier.
I’ve stayed out of standard for quite a bit.. but this looked hilariously fun.. and didn’t disappoint.. have had 3-4 rage quits already lol

Fun fact: In The End came out before half of CGB's audience were born
This deck is truly some mad genius stuff, love it.
Not sure how this deck will do without the sac lands. Probably won't be as effective.
The sac lands are like the soul of this deck. It definitely won't be the same, unless wizards brings similar or better sac lands.

I can’t believe CGB made an Evangelion reference… my life feels like it has meaning again
Now the question is which version of this deck is better. This one or the one before
Your blue black control decks absolutely dissects and destroys this deck.

CGB crooning Old Blue Eyes is one for the ages.
Nissa works well with Virtue of Knowledge and the sac fetchlands, because it makes you x2 mana after youve run out of basics.
Love turn the earth in my muldrotha list 😊
Plus the artworks is soo nice

I ❤ this deck, goof-ball combos are the best
Ohhhh, yeah, I have played against this deck a few times. Two Zubats and my opponent is gone. 😅
That song deserves a Grammy!!
This was top tier content in every way.
So they did the allied color groups in Capenna, do you think we’ll get the other 5 on the return to Tarkir set?
