Would FL Studio and Pro Tools together take over the entire music world? WOuld Ableton and FL Studio create a beat making DAW that would be insane? Let find out.

FL Studio piano roll is by far the greatest piano roll imo. From random melody generators, to the ability to access multis within just ONE piano roll instance is crazy.
For example, if you're using something like kontakt and it has two instruments loaded in one instance as a multi, you can change the color of a piano roll note (or notes) that correspond to that particular multi in kontakt...instead of loading an ext. instrument plugin like Ableton. I'm not sure if this makes sense and Idk if any other daws can do this, but deffo not Ableton.

First - respect to the HMD channel and the co-hosts, LJ & Courtney! This is one of the dopest, most useful channels out here!
Lissen, I trained on Pro Tools and Ableton, but imma keep it 100 - Cubase is the Swiss Army Knife of DAWS. A lot of the stuff y'all mentioned - sampling, midi, routing, mixer features, etc. - Cubase be like, "hold my beer".
Cubase not only invented the VST, but also the "block" style of arranging music that EVERY DAW now uses, not to mention leading the industry in MIDI manipulation (which was it's original primary purpose).
Cubase is literally the "Black Thought" of DAWS - slept on for years, but secretly the GOAT!
ADD Pro Tools' solid Post-Production and Recording capabilities with Logic synth plugins and you literally have the KRAKKEN of DAWS.

    • @fts1981

I started in Reason hella young because my friends dad recorded us in it. I use Reason as a VST inside FL Studio fairly often, I feel like the way the Rack functions in reason (and the way you can hit tab and turn the rack around to rewire literally everything) would go crazy if integrated better into basically any DAW. That function fully functional in any other DAW would make a really cool combo.
Reason Rack + FL Studio would unalive every other DAW and you can bury me on this hill.

I'm glad so many people are getting away from Pro Tools. I've used almost every DAW, whether it be working with other producers; or trying it out for months or years personally. The DAWs that I've liked best (after my 2006-2009 stint with Reason lol): Studio One hits so damn hard, I love it. Cakewalk Sonar has everything built in, like it's already a SSL and outboard gear in a large format studio. I never even had to use plugins with Sonar. And the tape saturation on there is wild. Reason was the only other DAW that I've known to have such a nice stock built-in SSL like UI.
But I use Logic X now days. It's just so damn easy to use. Has great stock plugins, eq's compressors, etc. And the UI is most friendly to me.

I love this series. So many interesting takes and information. I think it would be great if you guys can have Austin Hull from MakePopMusic (Cubase User) on the podcast to talk about production OR Michael from In the Mix to talk about engineering philosophy. Great content like always Devvon

Ableton got heavy latency issues compare to other daws.
I keep things midi in Fl that I can't keep midi in other daws and I don't know why. This is same mac M1 and sample plugins.
Sometimes I feel like I have wasted time using Ableton but I just love it's workflow with audio. Can't wait to see the their next update

Also, I do believe Logic X does support surround sound mixing (5.1, 7.1, etc) natively. pro tools looks like windows 98 that ish looks so dead to use everyday lol. I agree with J, FL automation has sooooo much features its crazy

I’m saying Logic is scoring a 90% and above in every category for quality & quantity of features as well as execution & usability. No doubt I would take stuff from other DAWs that do certain small things better, but Logic is just so good all around. Apple doesn’t do anything unless it’s done at a top tier standard and the usability is always effortless
