I just LOVE how genuinely excited Sammy is by what he's hearing as he's hearing it. It's all so beautiful of course, but I'm further tickled by hearing this all come together. I never realized just how many differing types of sounds went into making this happen. Some sounds are imperceptible as you're listening to it together but when separated, you can hear how some of these sounds add to the greater soundscape. I remember where I was when I heard/saw this video for the first time. It was so different than anything else that I'd heard from her before, and she wasn't dancing in it either...it was just a bunch of friends hanging out hearing her "new song" together. "Pump huh Boo, Pump huh" (favorite line of the video's intro)

This has always been one of my favorite Janet Jackson tracks. Years ago I recreated this for a friend to sing over during a live event. Using hardware before recording in the box with software (as they say) became a thing. It was so much fun. I didn't use as many layers of tracks as Jimmy and Terry did, but the bassline, Les Paul guitar, keys, and drum tracks were enough to create the vibe. Thanks for sharing this. When I lived in Atlanta, I knew a producer/songwriter who was signed with Jam & Lewis. He always talked about their layering techniques and sound selections. He also gave a Babyface secret away, saying that "he patterns his songs" in the form of nursery rhymes, that's why they're easily remembered.

I believe Cheiron had a similar style for the early Ace of Base, Britney, Nsync and Backstreet tracks,brought in writers who mostly specialised in jungles and commercials.
