Thank you, Tom! Just used it to eat lunch. I sure love making simple, yet really useful things. And the fact that it was pallet skids makes me laugh!

Beautiful work Andrew! But I have to say the shop manager in me cringed as your shop coat danced above the jointer cutter head. Where is that guard hiding?? We need you around to make more videos 😁

Thank you James! I cringed too as I edited this video. I will not wear an untucked shirt like that again. I imported this jointer from China and it was sent without a guard. You're right & it's something I need to be hyper aware of moving forward.

@@branchandfoundry560 you probably know a good metal fabricator who can fashion a suitable well designed guard! Haha.
Short story, in the first commercial shop I was in ,before I was made Foreman, I found the unused guard for the 16" jointer and put it on the machine. One employee of the other company (we shared space) would take it off everyday. I would put it back on. This went on for weeks. Until I left on a company trip to the AWS show in Atlanta. Who do you think got their finger tip in the jointer knives while we were away? He missed the bone, when we spoke and I found out it was a flesh wound, I told him. "Guess who just won the battle of the jointer guard, it doesn't come off again unless the operation requires it." It never did, that near miss put the fear in him I think. Though he wouldn't admit it. We become too complacent around these guillotines we work with daily. In twenty years in charge I'm proud to say there were no amputations under my watch. But still too many bloody wounds. The pain in the neck working around a poorly designed guard is better than working with finger stumps. My unsolicited two cents. 😁

@@branchandfoundry560 - So glad James beat me to the head of the safety line. Did you also cringe when you saw your right pinky @ 1:09 ? You do such creative and interesting work. Please ..... you just need to tighten up your power tool use so you can be around longer and build more. I only wish you the very best. Thanks for listening.

@@joell439 Thank you for the kind words! 1:09 may look worse than it is in reality. My pinky and ring finger are firmly planted on the miter gauge, out of harm's way, about 1" away from the blade. The camera angle makes it appear closer than it really is.
With 34yrs of power tool use with only one DUMB injury--late night batching 120 identical parts--I have a comfort level that may appear loose. Yes, that injury changed my practices and made me hyper-aware of what I'm doing, but not perfect. As you pointed out, it also made me a better listener and open to receive advice (please keep it coming!)...always room for improvement! Best, Andrew
