Loved the part where the whale goes by. The hat scene was cute. Let's face it. Elayna is so photogenic, she could be stranded in an outhouse and still come out smelling sweet and looking like a super-model.
Little coconut tip: You can pierce one of the 3 eyes at the top of the coconut and then suck / pour the water out without having to crack open the nut and waste any water.
That's only useful with store bought coconuts. The ones she is eating are green with thick husk on the outside. She used the machete to cut the coconut out of the husk then cracked it to eat.
You did well. Don't be embarrassed. It's all about training yourself into building your skills. Probably more survival prep.love your videos ❤ all the best for you next venture
Elayna, one of the things I admire most about you since finding your channel and following your journey, is that you are a very independent and humble person. As a woman myself, I personally wouldn't be able to filet a fish or put up sail on a boat. Heck I can't even swim. I haven't heard you complain once about doing your fair share and I love that Riley doesn't let up on you just because you are a girl. And I love how proudly he looks at you when you accomplish even the tiniest things. For you to stay over night by yourself on a deserted island full of bugs and God knows what else... I commend your strength and courage girl. Make no apologies to anyone. You are incredible and as a viewer and fan, I am proud of you. Also, I think the lack of fins was a more realistic test. Think about it, when you're stranded, deserted, have an accident, are you able to pack? NO, you've got to use whatever you have on you or scavenge. You did great Eleyna! And I think you could have done three days there if you trained your mind more. I don't even think you called it off for your physical surroundings but more for your mental state. Or the book 1984 got to you.
Why not do it together as a team? Live on an island for a week or two with just minimum equipment. I had a constant smile on my face watching this video btw! :D
Even though you didn’t finish it how you wanted, you still achieved something and learned a little more about yourself and not a lot of people can’t say that they would willingly go out of their comfort zone and do that.

Maybe you can see application to the sailing too. Key to Hammock is making is more straight across, tighter. And in a place where rain would not be an issue. Getting wet and cold can kill you if long enough. Firewood is sometimes hard to find, keep and/or get it burning. Thanks for sharing this with us.

You did good. Some people can live without others around and some can't. When I was (a lot) younger I lived alone in a cabin in Alaska and would go 2/3 weeks without seeing anyone but I was fine with it. All in the mind set.
You did great. You would get better. My brother and I used to spend two weeks at a time living off the land in the mountains of Northern California. It was hard, but a great time and great memories.

Longest I was ever alone was on a solo transpac from Portland to the Marquesas. Got becalmed for nearly 3 weeks at the equator with a busted injection pump on my diesel. Made the entire passage 89 days. No big deal. Plenty of water and books. Other people are overrated...until you haven't seen one for a while and its female. :D

Definitely not tighter, she had it right but has to sleep diagonally. Those banana hammocks though make it difficult. With a proper hammock you will never have a better sleep.
From what I'm hearing all hammocks are not equal, I based my statement on a US Navy canvas and rope hammock which was wonderful and it was relatively flat when hanging right
The comfort for me was in knowing that this was something that you wanted to try to test yourself, and that Riley wasn't far off and could come to your rescue if needed. Obviously, you two are a great match and its wonderful to see how much you need each other and compliment each other. Great people do great things. Keep up the good work!

Elayna: Don't sell yourself short-- survival situations are hardest on the mind and spirit long before the physical challenges set in. Being alone is a difficult learned skill that anyone with a military background and/or survival training can attest. The MOST important thing to maintain in a survival situation, even in a tropical paradise, is high morale and a motivated spirit. I'd say you had a pretty good first go at it, and your diving skills I think would have served you well if the situation truly demanded it. Chin up. It's not easy thing to do. Humans are social creatures, and being alone is not something we're wired for. You can always give it another go in the future. Read a few stories about men like US Air Force Captain Scott O'Grady, and the psychology of being alone. Semper fidelis from a former Marine in the States. Cheers.

You didn't set up your hammock correctly. Lots of videos on youtube telling how to do it properly. Check out stef roberts channel. He sleeps in a hammock every night.
You know how to meditate and that's the perfect time to do it. When you're feeling lonely and isolated sit-down and practice. Yesterday I was very hungry before I started meditation and it went away during meditation. It was amazing to feel meditation release my hunger pains.
Thirty days alone in the far Northern Wisconsin Forest. Got a little loopy, felt a little monk-like, and it was tough coming back into the world. I'd recommend it. I am glad you are open to the idea of doing it again because each adventure builds on the wisdom gained from the last one. As I've told my kids as they try new things (like learning to drive a car): "you weren't born knowing how to walk, you don't remember the number of times you fell down but you always got back up and now look at you (playing soccer, running jumping, dancing)". I found myself chuckling at the thought of Tom Hanks (Cast Away) coming 'round the corner and realizing he wasn't entirely alone on that deserted island! Riley might never have heard from you again! lol.

yeah, you can string a hammock flat, and your weight will bend it more than enough to keep you from flipping
