I've sourced a bunch of things 2nd hand myself. However, I'm definitely a bit deeper down the rabbit hole.. parts and material I'm at around $7600.. I can't say I paid that out of pocket, though. I won a couple of raffles over the years and sold that gear to buy this current version.. (Helix Veight and director, kenwood dmx1037s) I also had some vintage gear laying around that I bought in the 90s that sold for way more than I paid for new.. if you cut my total in half, that would be a good realistic estimate out of pocket... labor would be crazy to factor, I have around 14 hours on each of the front doors alone, maybe more.
    Front stage is Brax ml1, ml3, dynaudio mw182.. subwoofers are Arc A12's x2. Amps are 2 JL HD600's and a HD750
ARC PS8-PRO dsp and controller. The only part I bought new from a retailer was the DSP.

True but if she finds out, just tell her that all the gear you bought and time to install will probably prevent you from buying a new car anytime soon. So really it's a savings - it worked for me🤣

Alpine - super detailed and accurate, but of all the Alpine maps, speakers, subs I've had, they always left me wanting when it came to bass. I'd take Alpine over the likes of JL and Hertz all day, every day, though!

Yes, it's ABSOLUTELY budget because this is functionally a competition full vehicle build for right around 2500 US dollars, all in. You could have saved even more money by not going all out with install things that are not "needed" but make a huge difference to the end result from a looks standpoint. You have a 7 driver, 3 amplifier, DSP system for less than most people have in their "regular" builds, that's a great job!

By the way I commented on Facebook and I'm up over 5k on mine and it's not even installed yet because I just bought this car and the only thing I carried over from my old build was Sub and Dsp. The rest is all new😮

I'm way over budget, mainly because I didn't plan it out well and didn't really stick to what I had planned. So I have bought thing I didn't use, some I sold for a loss. Also, some things I tried to save money on ended up costing more time and gave me poor results, so I ended up buying the more expensive options in the end anyway.
Selling old equipment isn't fun, but I'll sell some of the unused stuff soon to get some money back.

With my radio, speakers, 2 amplifiers, dsp, cabling, sound deadening, etc. I am still under $1K USD My DSP was the most expensive part at around $220. USD if you include the $22 power cable I had to buy for it. I’m sure your system sounds a bit better than mine since I am using the factory speaker locations with the addition of my (2) 12 inch subwoofers only. I did all the work myself also. I still love it though.

@@RAW-CAt I really pushed them SB 17's with 2x100 watt channels bridged to each playing down to 85Hz when I had a 2 way system, paired with seas Prestige tweeters both powered with a 6 channel zapco amp, helix dsp and a lower end Audiofrog sub with 500 watt zapco monoblock. Those speakes impressed everyone that listened especially considering they were only $100 for the pair. Ultimately they didnt hold up well in factory door locations with moisture and started giving me problems after a couple years but I pushed that system to its limit. That was my 1st sq system 5 yrs ago and of course like most of us crazy people it only took a few years b4 I needed a bit more and have done major upgrades since. Really enjoy watching your videos, looking forward to more👍

I agree this is a "budget" audio system. I've had many systems (of varying quality) in many cars and all have been what I consider "budget" type systems. My current car is the only one that I bought everything new, but still budget. My record for cheap systems came in right around $100 and everyone was blown away how good it sounded. It's my nephew's first car, the audio was a mix of used stuff and ultra cheap stuff.
mine is a 2005 Hyundai Elantra purchased for $800, components are as follows:
    Kenwood KAC-304 h/u with dsp $150
    SKAR RP75.4 $120
    Dayton Audio RS-180p midbass $125/pair
Dayton Audio RST-28A alum dome $75/pair
    Stinger MT-2000.1d $190
    Sundown Audio U-18d4 in 4ft3 l-port
    enclosure $330 (driver)
KnuKoncepts OFC wire, cable and RCA signal cables ($150)
2awg welding cable (big 3 and primary power) $100
    80 mil Killmat (86sq ft) $75
KnuKonceptz fused distro, fuse holder, etc
    copper 2awg cable lugs
building materials and such $500 (estimated), total system cost around 2 grand (estimated)
    sounds great and gets loud
    *upcoming upgrades:
    1/0awg primary power cable
    second battery or high-output alternator
