Don't apologize for the long videos, this is excellent and full of very pertinent knowledge. I am getting back into car audio after many years without, and this is exactly the kind of refresher I needed to be confident about my setup. I look forward to the next ones!
whoa. if you're redoing the whole how to tune series with even more professionalism and even better quality now (though old vids were great too) you're literally about to become the go-to for everyone that wants to play with their systems instead to giving them to some audio instal companies x3 I can already imagine your videos being linked all over again in car audio forums as "the best guides available" your videos are extremely helpful and informative, thank you for giving us all of this!
I started my tu ing.videos on an advanced level, this will be super basic and beginner friendly. The idea is that you start with these videos and advance to my emma tunes.
This is probably the best DSP setup video I have seen. I've been trying to learn more about this but most videos are kind of all over the place. Can't wait to keep following.
This is an excellent tutorial! It's exactly what I needed to help task he my EZY DSP from okay to awesome. I was frustrated in my first endeavor with tuning my system. I blew my tweeters the first time lol. I'm sure you remember my post on this on the D4S page... yup, that was me. I understand the crossovers and the need for tuning, but had a problem translating it within the dsp. Great video, and thank you for spending the time to do this for others in my situation. It's greatly appreciated.
I've heard the 24dB/oct Linkwitz-Riley crossover is a good choice to start out with as it eliminates changes in phase. With other filter types or slopes you get changes in phase which is another complication.
Cool video👍 I like using an XLR microphone and a Mic Mate so I can have both an acoustical RTA as well as an electrical RTA. I think that's a great, inexpensive combo for the audio enthusiast.
In win isd, you can see what excursion your drivers are doing. At specific power and crossover. Coil out the magnetic gap is bad . I guess you are happy with the loudness and the coil is barely moving you can cross the drivers lower if they can.
25:00 I think you meant to say two way front stage and three way front stage. A two or three way SYSTEM includes all the drivers. It's just semantics, but beginners get confused by this all the time. 👍
My JL Audio DSP (TWK-88) seems to randomly reset to a default tune occasionally. If this happeend and I didn't have any capacitors on my tweeters I would likely blow them up before I had noticed. I know they may add some phase offset/delay but I think its a good idea to use them anyway for the additional safety net, especially on expensive tweeters! Plus you can adjust time delays in your tune or add all pass filters to combat any phase issues introduced?
Awesome... Thank for teach us in very simple away.. but I do have a question, that can you tell me how to set the amp gain in proper way while doing a active 3 way system with subwoofer.
Quick confirmation, with a 2 way + subwoofer 4th order or vented, should the low pass be 24db at the same freq as the high pass on the mid? I've read that the subwoofer should be low passed higher than the high pass of the mid?
I will be talking about this in the future video as that needs to be shown using RTA. In most cases for good integration the sub needs to be crossed way higher.
Hey Thanks for the amazing videos my question is do I use 2ch rca and then use dsp to set up speaker and bass or do I used 4ch for audio and then bass. And what about my head unit to 3way rca out any benefit or just use 2ch to dsp and set up bass speaker etc Thanks 😊
You need more than one pair of RCAs only if you want to retain the faider and bass controll.on the head unit. If you don't need that and you have a bass knob from the amp, just save some money and run a single pair.
Love this, brilliant. I've just built and tuned my first system and so far, I think I got the crossovers about correct, but I think I might have messed up the delays - looking forward to the next video to learn more!
Found myself rewinding the video because I missed the first part where you say “Hello lovely people” if you ever do a video without it I might have a mental breakdown 😉😂😂 Out of curiosity, I’ve just bought a dsp.3s and I’ve been running a vibe power box but it’s only 4ch, I’m looking to go class a b but I want to buy a classic alpine which is also only 4 way ( I’m looking to run a 3 way system ) Would the vibe power box be okay with the midwoofers while I use the mid range and tweet with the alpine amp? Or would that be a bad idea?
A quick question, I have Polk MM6501 component, and the spec sheets says the mid base goes down to 40hz. Does it mean I can easily play cross the mid base to 40hz? I understand the rattle but given a hypothetical scenario where the panel don’t rattle shall I and could I do it?
Do I need infrasonic filter if I have air free subwoofer (It's inside sedan rear shelf) ? From what I understood from the video It's more for the subs in the box. Also why it's called infrasonic, It's just a HPF filter.
My biggest weakness in the hobby is tuning. Now I've never blown a sub in my life (I'm 39 lol) so I guess I'm not that bad 😂, but there's frequencies I feel I don't get the most out of sometimes.
Thats most peoples short fall. Anyone can buy good equipment. It takes time and patience to learn how to tune, a lot of research just to understand it before you try. Then you gotta just start playing with it,eventually it starts to make sense. If it wasnt for this channel, id still be sitting in the back seat yelling at my dsp.....haha
I have the Audio Control DM-810 DSP and the software has nowhere near the adjustment that the D4S DSP has. I may have to dump the DM-810 and replace it with the D4S DSP. I have also been looking at the Helix DSP, it puts out 96k resolution.
Is that graphical representation of the crossovers accurate? At 6:00 I see you input a 4k LR HP 48/dB slope, but the F3 point shows as 4400Hz. I'm used to older, non laptop based DSP's without "seemingly accurate" graphics. They have crude graphics. Lol
Question and sorry I’m only halfway through this video so I don’t know if you’re gonna touch on this yet But what about coaxial 6.5 speakers for example, cross them over at 80hz just let them play through?

@@RAW-CAt i love you
Really good video. Your explanation made it easy to understand.
Now that's a really neat setup bro
Wish I saw this video 2 years ago, lol. It took me about 6 months of research to understand everything you summed up in a 30min video.
This is probably the best DSP setup video I have seen. I've been trying to learn more about this but most videos are kind of all over the place. Can't wait to keep following.
This is really a good explanation and summary on how to set up DSP/Crossovers, etc. It's the simplest I've seen so far anywhere. Good job, brother.
Go in depth. Dont worry about the slower people or inexperienced ones. They can rewind and rewatch.

Dude you rock, thanks for your teachings, they are appreciated.
Thank you for so much for such detailed explanation!
Thank you for this detailed explain, today i try in my System a low shelf 24db for my underseat Sub 🙂
watched the entire video, this is addicting.. I can’t wait to install my Bit one

That is not really correct, but we will talk about this later😉.
Cool.
Awesomeness³
I dare someone to try. It don't get noooo better than this!!
I originally set my midbass drivers at 65Hz/24dB LW. I wil try the Billie Eilish song tonight. Thanks for this insight.
Cool video👍

Did I miss this? When setting the DSP all of your amps crossovers need to be turned off or set all the way to full

Gains are to be set after the EQ towards the end of tuning. So you will have to wait for next videos😉
Killer video, thank you!
Thank u for all u do

If that vibe gives you enough power - go for it. See if you can potentially bridge that amp to get more out of it.
Excellent! Why the Sub should not be with delay?
Because in most systems it's the physically furthest speaker.
A quick question, I have Polk MM6501 component, and the spec sheets says the mid base goes down to 40hz. Does it mean I can easily play cross the mid base to 40hz?
I understand the rattle but given a hypothetical scenario where the panel don’t rattle shall I and could I do it?
The frequency response in the driver's data sheet doesn't mean anything. Same rules apply as discussed in the video.
Thank you
Great vid! Does this DSP have rear differential or effects?
Unfortunately budget DSPs lack those features. A normal or mono rear fill can be run with this.
Do I need infrasonic filter if I have air free subwoofer (It's inside sedan rear shelf) ?
From what I understood from the video It's more for the subs in the box.
Also why it's called infrasonic, It's just a HPF filter.
It's more for ported enclosures. Free air subwoofers are very rare that is why I didn't mention them. But yes you would need a high pass for it.
My biggest weakness in the hobby is tuning. Now I've never blown a sub in my life (I'm 39 lol) so I guess I'm not that bad 😂, but there's frequencies I feel I don't get the most out of sometimes.

with using a dsp, do you just leave the crossover settings on the amp alone?
Yes, you bypass them, leave the setting at "full".
Use 2 condoms, u friggin crack me up! Love the analogies and videos.
2 condoms??😆
I love it!! 🤣
😅

A lot of people are complaining about AC having limited adjustments. I consider that to be hindered performance of a product.
Good job,,,
is there an updated version of jazzi´s tuning companion ?! It´s really nice to make custom curves but sadly you need an OG Word 😢
Check DIYMA mate
❤❤❤❤
And this is free
Is that graphical representation of the crossovers accurate?
At 6:00 I see you input a 4k LR HP 48/dB slope, but the F3 point shows as 4400Hz.
I'm used to older, non laptop based DSP's without "seemingly accurate" graphics. They have crude graphics. Lol
Not for all crossovers F3 is the crossover point. For LR it's F6, that is -6dB.
@RAW-CAt Ah yes, I was thinking F3 was a standard unit for all crossover types. It's nice to learn something new. 👍
What head unit are you using that has an optical output?
Joying.
That software looks the same as Alpine's.
How do you get along with Steve Meade?
I watched a few of his videos and he doesn't know that I exist🤷
Any idea where to buy this dsp in EU? From their site it's gonna be a like 300€ in shipping and taxes.
So far it's unavailable in the EU. But D4S are working on it.
Its mostly the same here in USA
Does dsp in android headunit anygood

Question and sorry I’m only halfway through this video so I don’t know if you’re gonna touch on this yet But what about coaxial 6.5 speakers for example, cross them over at 80hz just let them play through?
Coax is no different from any other 6.5, it just plays higher. So the same thing applies, 80Hz starting point.
i hate that bad guy song, no matter howmuch i tried to tune my system. maybe i can get it better now
I don't like the song itself, however it helps to find all the raltles😂
very good video thank you
