I am doing shorts and reels for few months already and I feel like TH-cam Shorts are future because people have short span of attention now, and it's really popular with Gen Z (almost as much as TikTok). That's why I am trying to make content for both platforms, but I generally put my focus on short and expressive videos (and then I use a little bit of Famester Social as well to get easier into loop and increase my presence). Easy business honestly.

Nice timing for this video! I’ve decided to spend a little more time on shorts lately as an experiment. Been seeing lots of people lately say shorts is a good way to increase subs and viewers. I just put out a short 2 days ago and hoping for another today, we’ll see how they do! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

@@bubuchocolate they did alright, relatively speaking. The first one shot up pretty quickly but then they kinda leveled off and haven’t got alot of action since. I kind of have a theory that there are so many shorts being posted all the time that when you post one, it has a short timeframe to either takeoff or fall down the list of what the algo promotes. Depending on your niche they can be less time consuming to make, and some people’s shorts do really well so it can be a good idea. I’m not so sure I feel that way about mine though lol

Is the RPM for a short higher if the video is longer? My shorts vary in video length (10 to 18 seconds) time and the RPMs vary from .11 to .13 per 1000 views.

Yes you can!
VidIQ you can upload a “Custom Thumbnail” of your video IF saved in a editor with a “cover thumbnail”. When up loaded to TH-cam it with automatically be placed as your thumbnail. just Open and Close the pen selection and 👍🏾

Hello! I know this video is pretty old but I still hope you reply, If you are on ipad does the short icon for when you press on the record video show up on ipad because it didn’t show up for me.
if you upload content to TH-cam as private or unlisted, after it has been processed, do you change the settings to public?
At this moment, I've given up on creating shorts. When I get $0.14 for 2,000 views on a short compared with $6.50 for 1,500 views on a long from video, it's just not worth the effort. When I needed the subscriber count, shorts really helped, but since I've hit the 1k mark, I don't concentrate on getting subscribers anymore. I still have an idea for a killer short, but I'm now content with relying on long form content and community posts at the moment.
I’m hoping to start marking more shorts and didn’t know about the possibility for copyright claims if you don’t use their built in shorts feature! Really helpful video thanks!

That's true.. unless what you enjoy happens to be something that billions of people have already ran the market of content on, then you'll likely have a harder time building a community in that same area of content.
The areas where competition is high requires you to fall into the algorithmic trap where you'll likely have to copy a portion if not majority of the format that you see working for other channels.
If you're in a territory where you can kind of set the tone for what content looks like for something that isn't so popular yet, then you don't have to do as many psychological tricks to pull in more viewers.

For anyone who is reading this right now, shorts are broken only for very smaller channels like me. No matter how many times you post a short, it always get 0 views. Before that (in few days ago), the views starts to pop up as only after 14 minutes since uploading the short. The same short of the same views that I usually I get before are the views I normally get from long-form content due to the algorithm glitch where my views for long-form content are now barely. First, long-form is broken, now shorts are broken. TH-cam is broken, I hope this issue gets fixed soon.

Because if it won't, then that is dumb because you can monetize it if you upload it from mobile but not when uploaded from the computer.

OK, maybe I missed something. 99.99% of everything I do is live. So, let's use Friday that past, I did a live and in said live, I have a section from that I want to make into a short. How do I do that? Can I do it from my desktop or does it need to be done using my phone? And either way, how? I tried using my phone, clicked make a short and it doesn't show me ALL of my videos, it shows me whatever it wants to show me. Thanks. 👋🤠

Shorts work WAY better for me than ANY regular video. I even made a 10 second video and got a whopping 26 views. I got a surprise 100 once. Shorts got me up 1000-2000 views and even a subscriber YAAAY. Interesting how we can put any music in a short as long as we use the app. Maybe not for long though

Yeah, my views have been so extremely low lately. I used to get around 1000 or at least a few hundred. Now I get around 8-10 views on my shorts. I’d like to start doing longer videos again instead of posting shorts. It’s been disappointing.

If you post a video under 60 seconds why doesn’t it be a short automatically

I made a Short with music from the list of music within the Shorts creator. It was fine when I uploaded it, but sometime later, a copyright claim appeared. Why is that so? Does it mean that it will not be eligible for monetisation (when I get into the Partner Prog)?
The shorts algorithm is confusing. Everyday my shorts get a ton of views from 10pm-11pm but don’t get any traction anywhere between

I do love these videos. Thanks vid IQ for the info. I can tell you after editing 51shorts on my desktop pc, I have only one video that was detected as a short when uploaded from that location. I have to faff about and connect my phone to my pc to transfer the file then upload via the mobile app. (Have to sellect "upload as a short" in the app then hit next if you don't want to add filters.)

Idk if this is true but I think putting links to places outside youtube in descriptions makes the youtube algorithm promote your content less since they want people to stay on youtube. This means that you might as well just put no non-youtube links in shorts descriptions.
I'm inspired to do this. Never in my wildest dreams thought I would. I created a channel a few years ago just to get a sermon from a CD to my computer for listening (didn't have a CD player). It was time consuming because I have slow internet (no high-speed available)
I can't seem to figure out how to find (on my laptop) the SHORTS drafts that I initiated on my iPhone . . . It seems as though the Shorts drafts initiated on the iPhone can only be found/edited on the iPhone -and- the drafts initiated on the laptop can only be found/edited on the laptop . . . . Am I missing something here?

Thank you for this video; however, I followed these steps and added music just like you demonstrated on the youtube music and on several occasions have received content ID notifications which sometimes show up a week later after it has gone public which is so frustrating. Sometimes I can delete and try again until successful but that is no guarantee a claim won't show up at any time after the upload. I am a small channel but want to avoid this from happening in the future and don't know why it is happening.

Do you have to record the short on your cell phone for it to be considered a short? What if you just create a short video and upload it to TH-cam, will it still be recognized as a short?
No, you can edit it anywhere you like. I use Davinci Resolve (free) and it works fine :). Just needs to be certain dimensions and length in time (no more than a minute long).
