Ya know, over the years i've been adding other types of gaming content to my channel since it first started. Ranging from Horror Let's Plays, to funny walkthroughs and often interesting indie horror games. Now just watching this on your channel, the tips and help definitely open a new light. Started from 0 subs in 2019 and went up to 779 right now to this day. Watch time and views aside, i'm happy to enjoy a hobby that makes me feel good and helps build an audience for chill watching. For all the creators that are still working hard since their day 1 and are struggling: Keep going, do not give up. You can do it.
I started a gameplay analytics channel in the ladder of 2023 after failing to find a job from getting laid off at the end of 2022. I’ve gotten more traction than I ever thought possible in 3 short months. It’s a grind! From learning the software, to writing scripts, to the actual gameplay, voice recording, to actually creating the video. But it’s also incredibly rewarding. Crafting some kind of story progression I think plays is a major part, but also don’t be afraid to borrow an idea from a bigger channel and put your own spin, ideas, or personality behind it. Keep up it everyone!

Thank you. Your video confirmed a lot of what I suspected when it came to gaming channels and what does/doesn't work in the last few months. I first started my channel with the belief that highlights from livestreams would be better received than pure no commentary gameplay because of the mentality that no one would watch if they couldn't see my face or hear me constantly talking. Those videos received almost zero attention and it nearly ended my desire to upload to YT. In the past year I revamped the channel to focus purely on no commentary gameplay videos, and to my surprise they were better received than I ever thought was possible. Going from 4 views in a Subnautica highlights video that had been up for a year to 200 in an average Starship Troopers gameplay video in a week was the wake up call I needed. One thing I do want to start working towards is making longer videos (I also thought no one would want to watch a 1 hour video compared to 30-45 minutes) but I'll save them for the continuous games. Something I might consider doing, though I am unsure if I should since it feels like it would make the series redundant, is compiling them into one long video. Maybe I do the long video alongside the series so viewers can choose.
Rules/tips to become successful: 1: give your 100 percent on everything editing voiceover and uploading 2: never copy other content it’s a cheap way to steal content and you don’t get yt money 3: work with fun
A tip that I've found that could work pretty well, is when choosing what games to play on your channel try to find games that have similar audiences. For example, a game like fortnite might have an audience that also enjoys viewing rocket league content. Therefore, your audience won't be changing every few weeks and you're able to start growing a real fanbase.
I've been on youtube since 2011 and I'm a gaming channel and watching this has taught me to think a lot differently. Thank you for helping us tiny channels out.
Idk how I didn’t hear about being mentioned in this video for 3 months, but thank you so much for the compliments on my work! Haha! I do think some of the success on that 1.21 video was pure luck, though! Nonetheless, great video and I’m glad to see someone teaching others how it’s done! :D
Please keep doing these types of gaming videos. I'm primarily a Sims channel, and its so hard to break into the search results, it seems like other social media gives me the most traffic to my channel rather than TH-cam.
I’ll give you a tip.. I did this for a while but I dropped it because I wanted to focus on one thing. I used Instagram to farm followers (basically get followers as it’s much easier to get followers than subs for some reason). Anyways, when I’d get followers via IG, I’d DM them thanking them for their follow, have a conversation then they’ll eventually sub to my channel provided they like my videos. Hope that helps.
I've been in the gaming challenge niche for over half a year now, and while it's not nearly as rewarding as I thought it would be there is defiantly value within it. I recently changed my strategy for my videos to go into more detail about the challenge itself (essentially changing the storytelling) so I'll have to wait and see how that goes. But I definitely have made many mistakes and standing out is really hard because I still stuck at titles and thumbnails even after over a year of practice; my CTR has always been lower then my friends so I blame that (if I had money I'd hire someone 😅). My point is, with gaming channels it can be a long and tedious process, but if you enjoy it at the end of the day even if you don't make it, the skills will help with your day to day life. Although maybe don't commit to always making videos thing as much as I have... (shout out to literally recording footage while I write this)
What I found to be EXTREMELY helpful is shorts. Although, I'm still trying to grow, I was where you are at and then I started incorporating shorts to my channel. Take highlights from your videos and post them!
This video is honestly so helping for the new creators! Even me im planning to start new channels but the thing i had in mind that many new creators dont is ima say a different opinion than they are and this prob is the best tip to ever give, its essentially an easier to understand the term "being different". Also vidiq may i ask, do small new channels get a boost? Many of my creator friends been saying that.
Tip: one of the easiest ways to create a successful channel is to do tutorials on the exact topic of this video, how to start a TH-cam career. My Dad said he was willing to help me with a TH-cam channel and this is the perfect content I needed to start a channel. I'm currently at 61 subscribers but I'm aiming to get more and this video will help a lot. (Thanks vidIQ!!!)
I love gaming and my two cats. These two are basically where I spend most of my time outside of work. I always wanted to make my own channel and start uploading videos because I feel like positive experiences are more enjoyable when shared with others. Your videos has encouraged me to finally make a channel and upload my first video!
I feel like I figured out a formula thanks to your video. Make a let's play and add my own story/flare to it. Then after the series is done, I'll drop one huge video of all the episodes combined together. Then I'll post a 20+ minute long review of said game if I finished it. Then I'll repeat the cycle and make sure to diversify my games by sticking to a broad genre. For example, I would probably stick to action games. Let me know if I can improve this in anyway!
as a rising gaming channel, i really appreciate this video! i watch the majority of y'all's content but this one seems to be more promising since it reaches out to my genre of content personally. the video truly shows that you don't need a huge budget and a crazy topic or genre of video to get big, you just need time, effort, patience, and understanding of the youtube algorithm (factors i'm pretty confident in thanks to your guys' content. thank you for making this video!
Yeah I agree with you.. but there’s another thing… and you’re right that it’s definitely about patience. What I found is that growing TH-cam is the hardest amongst the rest of the social media. I was doing research about growth and found that.. I’m sure you’ll find the same. Therefore, you can use other social media to farm subs when you follows. Leave no method unturned unless it sways your focus.
Well, this is timely and encouraging! I just started a Modded Minecraft series in which I decided to go with telling the story, first-person, of the sole survivor of a crashed space exploration vessel. I just started it a few weeks ago. Thank you so much for your content and help for us beginners! :)
I just love the fact that I can do two of the things I love at the same time. I started my COD channel as a hobby and I am blown away by the response. I wanted to focus on the real side of gaming and not so much all the highlights. The good the bad and the ugly. Thank you for your knowledge on this 👊💯
One thing I learned about my TH-cam channel in 2023 is I’ve got a very small community. Don’t get me wrong, I love making videos for the subscribers I have, but I know I want to expand my audience. Sure, gaining more subscribers is a goal, but if I don’t have a strong community surrounded around my channel/content, growth doesn’t matter as much.
That VERY last point you made makes ABSOLUTE SENSE for videos I’ve been seeing pop up as outliers in my niche and helps clear things up. I make content around splatoon, and I’ve been noticing some outlier videos that are just gameplay of the casual game mode for hours on end at most. And while the videos themselves have poor engagement ratings due to having 3 or so comments tops! They are still amassing more than 10k views each
Great stuff in this video! I've spent almost three years on TH-cam creating Let's Plays. I decided even before watching this video to step out of my comfort zone in 2024 and make some different type of gaming videos. One thing I've noticed is that some of my gaming buddies have been doing well with videos where they do rankings or talk about games they like for different consoles. Talking about their favorite gaming things has benefited their channels a lot. I plan to make more of those type of videos more in 2024! I recently posted a video about 8 games that should be remade in 2024, and it was one of my favorite videos to produce. It took me two months of editing off and on, but in the end I was super proud of it!
I really needed this, man. Hopefully, we all succeed. Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best in achieving your goals, and Happy New Year to you too! 🎉🌟
I usually skip over these kind of videos because for years it has been the same tips. But I am glad that I watched this one. Very useful info and shows that the landscape has changed.
personally, what im doing is putting my own twist for my new series. normally, people on roblox look at what games are good, but in my new series im focused on finding the shittiest, most horrible games and improving on one thing every video.
It's videos like this that helps people like me start a TH-cam channel. I posted my first video a few days ago and I'm both excited and nervous! I wish everyone the best in their YT journey in 2024!
Watch is definitely my biggest takeaway from 2023. I started the year sitting at 21 subs with about 50 watch hours. I put in the work (consistent uploads, crafting video ideas, titles, thumbnails...). But once I started making videos longer than 7 minutes, I noticed that I was getting more watch time hours. Now, I am fully monetized. Thanks vidIQ 🙏
@uchgamerx what do you use to edit and most importantly make thumbnails? I'm trying to become a full time content creator so this would really help out!
My friend and I started our channel last year being inspired by our favorite content creators and work everyday on improving our content with trial and error. Even though growing a channel is difficult, but its not impossible. We learn everyday on making better videos and we just hit 500 subs, to some people its not a lot of subs but to us it is, it doesn't stop us from making content since 500 people actually like our videos. Its shows my friend and I have a chance to becomes successful on our channel. If our favorite content creators can do it, than so can we. KEEP UP THE GRIND FELLOW CONTENT CREATORS!
Started a couple months ago doing realistic military combat games, here is what I've learned: What does not work: Reading game updates/patchnotes. Simple letsplays. No commentary gameplay. Low quality daily uploads. What does work: Showcasing high skill level. High quality editing. Finding a niche. Being unique.
0:58 This is wrong you need one game to set a proper niche, if people mostly watch you play one game and you automatically switch to another later on in your “gaming career” people are gonna be like wtf and your gonna see your channel start to dissipate unless your actually good at that second game and unless your like TheRadBrad who makes story walk throughs
Im in the same boat. I want to start a gaming channel but want it to be a variety of games. My issue is that i play all sorts from chill games like MC or Forza and others like Comp Valorant, Cod or Tarkov so they arnt even really similar :/
im trying to start a gaming channel on games i like but im not very good at editing and im new to giving my own perspective and talking to the audience. and this helped give me a better perspective on the whole concept
Welcome aboard all my new fellows. 1 year from now, when you look back at your younger self, you'll probably admire your first step to getting into this field. You got this 💪🏻
It's tough to create high quality content sometimes when you're all on your own, especially when also working full time. Initially I had done let's plays, but not of standard games. Games ran through google translate. Eventually I found a niche that I've enjoyed working on; "First looks" and what I like to call "Under the Radar". Mini essays on games that have either flown under the radar since they came out, or had a significant impact on my life. I'm still tiny, but I've seen growth and improvement over the past 8 months
Great video as always. Good to know the importance of watch time. Also glad to hear that you don't have to marry yourself to one game. That's one thing I'm trying to do is branch out and focus more on the genre of the game instead of one particular game. 💯
12:57 Yes, this. i love putting long videos or playlists on in the background. helped me a lot when studying or doing chores or just grinding a video game.
I appreciate this kind of content SO much! As a small TH-cam gaming channel this kind of content is so inspiring and really gets the creative flow going. Thanks guys! Here’s to 2024!🎉
im currently getting my setup and my socials setup but im going to try to create content in the near future i can guarantee this video has helped me understand how all of this works a bit better and for that i say thanks, wish me luck guys :)
Tbh i really miss the old days of youtube where people would just chill and talk while playing, nowadays every video has to be attention grabbing and with 3000 colored subtitles and edits and most of the old CCs dont upload anymore
Thank you for these tips. I recently opened the channel and the biggest obstacle for me is the planning of the video because I love to play shooters, especially ww2
also the newly released games that has lots of player but no videos about it in yt is also good for making videos and beating the hardest bosses in there
I have been relying on Minecraft a lot in the last month. I tried to play Fortnite last week, but it didn’t bring in many people, and also I got copyright claims from those. I tried Roblox today, and that did pretty well. I just need to know a lot more games than just a few. Another thing is: which game do I need to play next?
Well i have my channel my name of boo gaming and it has been two weeks im good nearby 100 views and CTR is almost 2 to 3 % now and average view duration is more than 30 seconds and yeah im enjoying the journey because of you and you 💗
One of the biggest struggles with starting a gaming channel is budget. Gaming channels require more initial investment because you need a mic, a good computer, good monitor, maybe a good webcam, etc.
Ever since I started my part-time job, it made making video easier for me because I had less to worry about, making the flow of creativity much better. I've noticed this in my recent videos where I do video essay content but I name them "experience videos" where I review new and older games and just talk about how I feel about the game as a whole. People have been loving it and I'm glad that it's now exponentially growing too as I'm working on the next video.
This is an extremely, valuable video thats not just for gaming channels. But for anyone getting into youtube in general. Because everything Dan is saying can be applied to anyone. Heard a lot of advice im going to start taking.
From what I have learnt in a summary is stick to something that won't get old and boring for you and take time in editing so the results in your attitude in the video and editing makes it fund for the viewers
May I add one advice? My advice is use a captions that every body looking for and make a different video about it.😊 That's kinda what u did with us and it worked!!!😮😮 For u.🎉🎉🎉
I just discovered that I might not grow much in terms of followers because I don't talk in my videos. However, I don't mind it as I enjoy creating content anyway, and having fun is all that matters to me. Despite my severe anxiety and dislike for my accent, I still upload videos of me playing games, doing difficulty runs, Speedruns, Fightcade Multiplayer, achievement hunting or general walkthroughs. It's important to me to continue sharing my passion with others, no matter the challenges I may face along the way. One takeaway I will focus on is editing. I do not know much about it, but I will learn and hopefully that can be my filler for talking. Thank you for uploading this vid it was extremely informative.
I've seen a bunch of similar videos and I'm actually really impressed with the advice. I know there isn't just some special formula to 'win' TH-cam, but there are definitely hundreds of small factors that make a huge difference (Many SEO Elements, Pacing, Digestibility, Interest, Pacing, etc etc)
I recently noticed how optimizing for long form videos that can hold decent retention (shii even 10% till the outro) is pretty damn amazing. It's very nice to see my belief of focusing on watch hours backed up in this video!
This was very helpful I always wondered why my boring lets play videos do so poorly but I think I get it now when you make that type of content it’s important to be unique and have a plan before hand.

@@CoDinksYT I tried shorts for a bit but never like that, I’ll look into it!
I like the reason of why I watch and make No Commentary Gameplay videos. I play those videos in the background, while I eat, while I do chores etc.
Bro has almost 200k subs
@lordspejson8871 I used to watch your videos all the time 😅
Tip: one of the easiest ways to create a successful channel is to do tutorials on the exact topic of this video, how to start a TH-cam career.
You got this!
My friend and I (14 yrs) are creating a channel. So excited to see where this will go.
Trying bro we are trying😮💨😮💨
It's alright man we will all get there one day
Nice! Very informative stuff. And don't forget where you can find copyright claim free music 😏
I really needed this, man. Hopefully, we all succeed. Happy New Year!
Wishing you all the best in achieving your goals, and Happy New Year to you too! 🎉🌟
Happy New Year!
As a gaming youtuber starting out on Roblox, this guide helped A LOT.
I usually skip over these kind of videos because for years it has been the same tips. But I am glad that I watched this one. Very useful info and shows that the landscape has changed.
We are here to keep you updated:)
personally, what im doing is putting my own twist for my new series.
normally, people on roblox look at what games are good, but in my new series im focused on finding the shittiest, most horrible games and improving on one thing every video.
Happy new year! I followed your tips and my ctr jumped from 0.8 to 4.3% in a day and won +15 subs.
Great job! Keep growing!
@@NotNovaKai I use pixlr and canva. They're both free to use
Happy new year 🎉🎉🎉
Happy new year 🎉
Semoga umur panjang
Started a couple months ago doing realistic military combat games, here is what I've learned:
What does not work:
Reading game updates/patchnotes.
Simple letsplays.
No commentary gameplay.
Low quality daily uploads.
What does work:
Showcasing high skill level.
“I do a lot of these videos but for this one I wanted to avoid generic tips” you gotta love a channel that can roast their own content
I have a gaming channel and it's growing slowly but I am happy with that . I will give my best for my channel ☺️
Welcome aboard all my new fellows. 1 year from now, when you look back at your younger self, you'll probably admire your first step to getting into this field. You got this 💪🏻
I plan to go crazy hard on my yt channel this year, thanks for this VidIQ!
@@TENAClOUS i plan to start making minecraft content so wishing you luck and hopefully we can be big youtubers in future!!
For all the small channels who are watching don't give up and keep working hard ,You GOT THIS
I think doesnt matter wich niece you have if your videos are unique and have theor own identity you will be noticed autmoatically
IM 26 SUBS AWAY ILL GIVE BACK
Thank you for these tips. I recently opened the channel and the biggest obstacle for me is the planning of the video because I love to play shooters, especially ww2
I hit millions views with only 10 uploaded videos. Just explore mate, and the most important thing is to have fun and consitency.
I'm so curious, what was the game? I imagine it had to be popular to pull that off
@@MCOC_NOMADhe makes shorts of other people's content he isn't authentic. He's a fiend.
@@Leboobs22 dang it 😅
I'm trying as hard as possible, and I urge others to do the same. My tip is to try doing youtube shorts from your videos to expand your audience. ❤
also the newly released games that has lots of player but no videos about it in yt is also good for making videos and beating the hardest bosses in there
I have been relying on Minecraft a lot in the last month.
If you find this comment it’s 1 in 1M
Nah no way
It's actually 1 in 1.9k but go on with your brainrot
@ cold
Ever since I started my part-time job, it made making video easier for me because I had less to worry about, making the flow of creativity much better. I've noticed this in my recent videos where I do video essay content but I name them "experience videos" where I review new and older games and just talk about how I feel about the game as a whole. People have been loving it and I'm glad that it's now exponentially growing too as I'm working on the next video.
This is an extremely, valuable video thats not just for gaming channels. But for anyone getting into youtube in general. Because everything Dan is saying can be applied to anyone. Heard a lot of advice im going to start taking.
Yes yes yes! Keep growing!
From what I have learnt in a summary is stick to something that won't get old and boring for you and take time in editing so the results in your attitude in the video and editing makes it fund for the viewers
Start a gaming channel in 2024. And then a ps4 controller in the thumbnail. I like that 😂
Started my gaming channel journey last week! I’m gonna have fun on this journey and see what happens ❤
If you finde this comment it’s 1 in 1000
I finde your commente

Guess I really am lucky for wearing green on st. Patricks day
BTW find is spelt F I N D
May I add one advice?
My advice is use a captions that every body looking for and make a different video about it.😊
That's kinda what u did with us and it worked!!!😮😮
For u.🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much for this video!
Dang I just started my channel and posting content. Good thing I watched this video!
I tried these but still my success rate is slow on youtube well some
I just discovered that I might not grow much in terms of followers because I don't talk in my videos.
If you see this comment I hope your channel will grow big! 10 subscribers and growing, I believe!
Started my channel im going strong
Really hope I can grow one day
I've seen a bunch of similar videos and I'm actually really impressed with the advice. I know there isn't just some special formula to 'win' TH-cam, but there are definitely hundreds of small factors that make a huge difference (Many SEO Elements, Pacing, Digestibility, Interest, Pacing, etc etc)
I just started TH-cam yesterday
I recently noticed how optimizing for long form videos that can hold decent retention (shii even 10% till the outro) is pretty damn amazing. It's very nice to see my belief of focusing on watch hours backed up in this video!
Oh, I was wondering how to do this for my son
@@AmandaMarieBrinkley me to
This was very helpful I always wondered why my boring lets play videos do so poorly but I think I get it now when you make that type of content it’s important to be unique and have a plan before hand.
I was waiting for this video
the good thing about this, is you can benefit from playing a game and it wont feel a waste of time :)
This is made just for me because I have 12 subscribers
Same bro, same
I have 58😢
Same I have 12
I wish you luck man
I got 3 💀
