I love seeing kids learning to skate. A while ago me and my friends were warming up at a skatepark. We saw a kid getting a bit frustrated on his skateboard and got his scooter off his mum, we stopped him said not to give up and taught him to drop in on the 1/4. He was stoaked and had the biggest smile on his face after. Then a brother and sister looked shy about rolling around so we taught them how to drop in too. Both kids and the dad were stoaked too. It made us happy and gave us good karma for our filming session. Kids are the future for skating and ya have to encourage it.

This is one of the coolest things about the skate community. Skaters might look mean sometimes, but I’ve found that they’re some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Pretty much always willing to help somebody learn. I love it. Good work

thats how its done and been done! the older "kids" teach the younger. I even remember when the older locals would help me as well. it might not seem like much but you're showing them a sense of community, comradery, fortitude and that they have the capability to do things they couldn't even imagine.. all it took was that one session

100%. I remember the older dudes helping me out when I first started skating, even to the point of giving me hand-me-down gear. I was intimidated as hell when I started going to the skatepark but seeing how willing people were to help out the newcomers was really reassuring and made me feel comfortable really fast, it also helped me learn faster because of their encouragement. From then I made sure I did the same thing for the younger kids. It's great seeing them excited about skating and that helps keep me motivated as well.

This is why he didn't want to do it. This guy is responsible for his mood swings, and how he lashes out at people. He didn't choose to be an addict. He likely had these issues before he started using. He has a chance to recover, but he has to be willing to commit himself to that job. The absence of malice in addressing the facts of the illnesses is not the same as an absence of holding him accountable. He's wrecking his life all on his own w/o "cancel culture" taking a whack at it, and nothing of cancel culture is going to be an incentive for him to get clean.

In like 1994 I went on an Element skate trip down to the Tampa Pro Contest and Jason Ellis was one of the guys sharing a room with me, Andy Stone, and Reese Forbes. Ellis was never in the room the whole time. And Tony, he's been the biggest ambassador for skating there ever was. I remember him coming to Washington DC around 1994 to do a demo where he was paid almost nothing to skate in a convention center for people that could care less about skating, but he did the demo and was psyched to be getting paid to skate. Tony went through some really hard years financially in the 90's. That video game helped turn stuff around for him for sure, but he really stuck with skating when it was not really rewarding him. I love both of these guys.

Man, I'm 36 now and i stopped skating regularly when I was 20. I got heavy into Jiu jitsu so skating and getting hurt that way wasn't an option anymore. But now I'm slowly getting back into it and man, I have missed having Tony Hawk in my mind and in my life. Everything about him radiates positivity and just optimal optimal, that's the only i can explain it, everything with him is optimal. Like talk about a guy who has "stayed the course" and is "all in." He is still a great role model for anyone looking to succeed.

I remember the Hosoi quote (still have the VHS tape of that comp somewhere) but he says he stubbed his toe in practice. Me and my crew used to quote that ad nauseam back in the day. Also the host (Jerry Sont?) "Going off like prawns in the sun". It was a huge thing to see a skate comp on national TV, even if it was cringe.

Jason, literally everyone in England discovered Motorhead the same way because when the Young Ones was airing, they featured a lot of bands that weren't well known at that time. Ace of Spades came out in 1980 but they weren't on the show until 1984 and believe it or not the song was not an instant hit back then and only reached no15 in the charts for a few weeks.
