Beautiful blooms. cattleyas blooms from old dry sheath. one of my cattleya blooms last year from old dry sheath that wasn't bloom for three years but they all bloom last year. I think when plant does not get enough cold dry rest, it does not get trigger to bloom. new subscriber.and congratulation on your 1000 subscriber.
Hi! Thanks 😀 Things can also go differently for a first blooming, its now creating buds with no sheath on another growth 😂 , it can be a trait of some cattleyas though 😄 I don't give any of mine cooler or drier conditions, they still bloom like clockwork on newly mature growths usually , it probably depends if they have any in the parentage that are cooler growers or from areas further from the equator with alot of seasonal variation? Either way I'm happy yours finally got their act together and bloomed, that must have been quite the show! 😀
Congratulations on reaching a thousand subscribers! Your channel is a great contribution to the orchid group! I always let the ads run to help fund your TH-cam videos.👍
As much as I never want to ‘complain’ about any orchid that blooms for me, I understand if there is a tinge of ‘disappointment’ ... the flower is stunning!! It’s not what Schwerter has advertised in their shop, but first time blooming... I hope it’s that! I also have this cattleya from Schwerter, and my thoughts on them have been made quite public already. Mine has not bloomed for me yet, new eye is swelling on its new growth of the summer, which is also half the size of what it could be ... so... great going on having yours bloom 👏🏼👏🏼😃 and fingers crossed, Schwerter didn’t mislabel again 🤞🏼😬
Yeah...I was very sad 😂 but I'm thinking it's the cross just maybe not the exact clone? Or maybe it's due to first time blooming, hadn't thought of that, I really hope so 🤞🤞 On the orchid roots webpage there is a fu Shu glory happy holiday that looks exactly like this 😢 Maybe it's not a stable clone? Can that happen? I'm tempted to emergency buy another one from currlin before brexit but their flower example also looks like mine with no stripes so I'm not sure if it's worth it...? Should I? Orchid garden also has them but they have the same stock image photo that schwerter used and I read somewhere that orchidgarden buys from schwerter sometimes, not sure if that's true though. I soooo wanted the stripes! I'll be keeping an eye out for when yours blooms, really hope you get stripes!! 💗
The Orchid Room I think you could try contacting Schwerter and tell them it’s not what you bought ... their picture does not match what you got ... I know I’m not one to talk, but it’s possible that you can run the Brexit issue by them and ask for a replacement plant and see what they say! I’m sick of them, personally... but it’s worth showing them your pic and tell them that their shop showed a completely different image and because of that you bought this orchid. Also... if they say something along the lines of ‘not meristem but seedling’ tell them, this should have been specified in their description , which it wasn’t. Also... look it up on eBay ... there might be some available there. 😡 Schwerter
Congratulations on reaching the 1000 subscriber level. Regarding the Rth. Fu Shu Glory "Happy Holiday" - if the plant is named (say with quote marks), as is this commercially available product, then it is either the originally named plant or a clone of that plant. I did notice on bluenanta the picture supposedly of "Happy Holiday" that looks similar to yours. Two things that are probably affecting your bloom: 1) first time blooming plants often have flowers that are sub-par, and 2) the local climate can affect colors in Laeliinae (some Cattleya hybrids are notorious for this.) There is a remote chance that in the cloning process there was a mutation, but let's wait until the second blooming (perhaps in another season) to see if the flowers show the darker yellow stripe for which you are looking. There is of course always the chance that Schwerter mislabeled the plant and I gather from other videos that they do that more than I would expect.
Thanks for the detailed response! I was under the impression I was buying a clone with the naming as I thought the happy holiday was the clone name? But it wasn't put into quotation marks in the listing or the tag...the blooming just threw me. So my thought was 'Ahhh no it must be a seedling'. But that doesn't really make sense either with the bluenanta page image. And on the currlin orchdeen website they have an image of one that doesn't have the striping. So your reply makes alot of sense and I really hadn't considered the first blooming/ environmental effect. I contacted schwerter just asking if it was a meristem clone as it doesn't say on the listing. Let's hope it blooms differently on its next attempt! Thanks again for your thoughts!
Hope you get this message as I don’t think you got the last one on your thrips video. Congratulations on 1000 subs, well deserved. Was wondering how you heat your growroom, most of my orchids will be ok a s they are but debating whether to get a heat mat for the ones in Leca
Thanks! I have a mini oil filled radiator for the whole room. Last year I kept all my cattleyas and novelty phals on heat mats (had around 10 mats going!) and they did great but this year I'm going to just have to keep the heater on more, as there are too many for heat mats now. The mats do work amazingly though!
@@dinahhughes7020 I bought a load of the large size seedling heat mats from amazon, the ohuhu brand which seems to not be available any more. They were similar to this one though www.amazon.co.uk/Hyindoor-Seedling-Waterproof-Hydroponic-Germination/dp/B07HL59XNH/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=heat+mat+ohu&qid=1571170167&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzUTRLVFpOUzcyRzUyJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNzA5OTk5Mk1MU1ZNQkxCVTI1TCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDkwNDkyM0pXV0hURk9WSUs0OSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3Bob25lX3NlYXJjaF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl 😄
I have a similar one Fu Shu Glory x Hsingying Pachi Pachi, which is supposed to have the white and yellow flowers as well. Perhaps it fades to that, or the next blooms will be different? I’m not sure as I’m just getting into Catts, but I heard sometimes their first blooms are different. I looovvvveee the first one with waxy leaves!
I've read that a first blooming can look different, even with the clivia I grow the bloom changes in the first couple of years. Maybe, if its a first blooming for the plant or even a first blooming in your environment the flower colour hasn't settled. Will be interesting to see next seasons blooms.
I really hope so! Keep your fingers crossed for stripes next time! I've just noticed it's now doing an odd thing with a new pbulb where it looks like it's trying to make buds with no sheath so I'm not sure it's figured blooming out yet 😂
I’ve got the “happy holiday” too, mine didn’t even bother making a sheath! Just have some buds appearing between the two leaves! I don’t think these should have seedling variation I’m sure they should be mericlones? Anyway, I’m really hoping that mine comes out as the photos, as like you, it’s why I bought it! Mine was from Schwerter too... fingers crossed they haven’t been mislabelled 🙈🙈 will be good to see how this progresses as it ages!
So I was under the impression when I purchased it that the happy holiday bit was the clonal name so it should be a mericlone. But then when the blooms opened my disappointed reaction was it must be a seedling. But that doesn't make sense really either as there are some pictures of the happy holiday clone blooming out like this... A couple of suggestions have been it could be the first blooming or environmental factors affecting flower colour. I really hope this is it because I just want those stripes like you say!! Really hope you get the striping, please let me know! 😀
Hello! So mine has finally flowered, and like you, it’s not as described!! It’s still opening so it’s a bit green at the moment but there is no sign of glaring at all. The lip is different to yours slightly too in that it had some obvious yellow running from the outer edges where it flares out running almost to meet in the middle. It’s so not what I was hoping for! 😩😩 I really am not sure they are what they say they are!! Gutted isn’t the word! Wish I could attach a picture to show you!
@@annathornburn4716 Oh no!! 😢 Ok, so when I looked online there are a few Fu Shu glory happy holidays blooming like mine. If you look at the orchid roots website there is even one on there! orchidroots.com/detail/100988929/hybrid/?tab=sum I can't explain it. I recently saw someone posting theirs on a Facebook group with the glorious yellow stripes. I contacted schwerter about this and they never replied to me. I am holding out hope for it being a cultural thing and first blooming combo and maybe next year we will get some yellow striping... but maybe this is just an unstable clone. Does yours look anything like the orchid roots pic? Or if you Google the cross another online image comes up with no striping also 😥
I think the first orchid you purchase with your monetization funds should be named Iggy! Or Iggie if you feel like your new acquisition is a girl.😄 • Congrats on the 1K! 🎉
