    Only today ... I came across this MUCH NEEDED tutorial from you regarding propagating Cattleyas. I had been searching for a comprehensive video just like this!! THANK YOU so much.
    Also, I subscribe to Ninja Orchids, so I am a *Ninja Acolyte* - and I have since sent her an email regarding FINDING your much and so timely video. THANK YOU so much for that - I learnt a lot!! You see, just a few weeks ago, I "rescued" a badly kept cattleya from a friend, and had NO IDEA what I had undertaken; my heart just went out to their deplorable state ("potted" in soil in a heavy clay pot!). Then ... I stumbled across your video about cattleya propagation - ta-dahh 🎶🎵.... so far, so good, my propagation methods were OK. That was about 3 - 4 weeks ago. So, now watching and waiting.
    I am from St Lucia in the Caribbean and have only recently been growing orchids - so I'm a newbie.

    If I lived in the UK or you lived here In Canada then I would really swap back bulbs with you. You have lots of Cattleyas that I would truly like to have in my collection. Anyways looking forward to seeing these in their progress and any updates plus their blooms. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful day. Always love your videos.

    You have done an amazing job with the divisions ... so happy to see that eyes have progressed so fast considering time of year ... you have that magic touch 🥰 I am also surprised how some did not fare well during shipping 😳 yay for Siamese Doll ... what a trooper to be doing that with a stonking new growth and roots to boot, wow!! If I was dubious about any of them going downhill, I would have bet on Siamese Doll... not the purpurata with 5 bulbs ... I am so sorry about that! Only one thing to be done,... grow more at my end, faster and then try again 😃 look at them in their pots 🤩 so happy to see them in your collection! Thank you for taking them on board... looking forward to seeing them bloom for you 🤸🏼‍♀️ for the kind and generous shout out ... massive hugs ❤🌸

      I have no idea what happened with the striata, the only thing that I could think of is something similar happened when I had a loat of rootless divisions from an eBay seller, where one of them made a new growth that blackened and dried before the rest of the plant dried up, and people suggested a calcium issue at the time. Which wasn't a shock since it had been rootless a while. So ondont knownifnots the same thing, but the symptoms were similar. Maybe I should have tried foliar feeding but it was too late by the time I realised 😥 I can only say thankyou so much for all of your kindness and generosity 💗

    Hello Annabelle... Again educating and for me a a reassuring video. I just bought a bunch of catts divisions from a friend in our orchid society and some of which are looking sorry and rootless.. he grows in bark. For a moment I thought they were all dead.
    but you've given me hope...BTW, I posted my greenhouse on the Semi hydroponic site. being that we have a lot of sun in Vegas I'm struggling with shading..
    And it's not even summer yet!!

    This is such a wonderful collection of orchids. Isn't it amazing how quickly they adapted and started to push new roots and growth? Between yours and Nina's collections leaves me totally awestruck. I can wait for your next update and to see the gorgeous blooms they're going to produce.
    I think it's a great idea in having a group swap to share keikis and backbulbs and helping to each other to build their collections. We in the UK will find ourselves in a great predicament come January 1st and I'm dreading what is going to be like for purchasing and or receiving orchids from the EU 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. But I digress.... I find solace in your show and tell 💜🌸💜

    Hi Annabel
    Wow, what a nice swap, and impressive progress in seven weeks!
    I bought two (rootless) C. aclandiae crosses (from a UK Ebay seller I've since been warned off 🙈) the summer of 2019, and it took FOREVER for something to happen. My Jungles Eyes didn't make it 😪, but my Jungle Elf "Isobee" is growing really nicely now - third growth since it started growing in the spring 💪

    You certainly have green fingers Annabelle 🙂 I have been watching Nina’s videos and she has some wonderful orchids as well. I have found Cattleyas so forgiving, they don’t mind where they are as long as they are warm and have plenty of good lighting. I think when 2021 arrives Orchid collectors here in the UK are going to have to think about where they are going to purchase their Orchids especially from Europe so a ‘swap’ club would be a good idea for all kinds of orchids. As always I look forward to your next video. Oh Muffin is gorgeous as well 😍

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe we should start a buy/sell/swap orchids in the UK Facebook group for next year, because the few UK nurseries we have will probably increase their prices in response to this. I can't help but feel that's coming. And I cant afford and deal with the hassle of cites, import paperwork and phytosanitary to buy from the EU... I agree with you, Catts are one of my favourite types of orchids because you can chuck them in whatever media and as long as they have enough light and hot temperatures, they will grow like weeds!

      @esthersorchids2288 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi again, yes I do have very cool winters and can only grow inside my house then. It will be interesting to see how my orchids do now I have a heat pump installed in my house. Hopefully it will provide cheaper and easily regulated temperatures. I should get better with Cattleya's over time, its all about gaining knowledge and experience.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In addition, they don't like cool temps, so the catts will definitely improve growth with the new heating system 🙂💗

    You don’t say how they are potted up. I would like to know what medium you use. I thought they needed more air holes in the pots. I have rescued several over grown cats and am trying to get them to revive. i have put them in bark, but maybe have them in too much sun. I have put rootless divisions in moss first, but maybe they don’t need that.

  • @nataliez.7506
    @nataliez.7506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, would this also work for other genera? I have some rootless bulbophyllum divisions which I am trying to root.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure which part you are asking if it would work for? 🙂 The rules of dividing orchids and care apply to all sympodial orchids with regards to light, humidity, airflow and number of backbulbs. Whether Bulbophyllums will do well in semi-hydro for you greatly depends on your environment. Personally if you aren't sure I'd go with moss. Semi-hydro can work for many environments and conditions, but for some you will need to troubleshoot the dry layer- there are many workarounds but rootless bulbo divisions are not the things to be experimenting with 😉🥰

    • @nataliez.7506
      @nataliez.7506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOrchidRoom Hi! Thanks for the reply & sorry for not being more specific. I have some back bulbs of a Bulbophyllum fascinator. They are also rootless. I am wondering if they have the chance to also push out growth, if set up under LEDs and some damp moss (my usual medium with bulbos)? I have never used semi-hydro techniques before.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have 3 or more backbulbs per division there is a very good chance a dormant eye will activate- this is how bulbophyllum are commonly propagated 🙂 If less bulbs per division there is still a chance, but it will take longer and the chances of success per division are lower.
