    Oh, Annabel! As soon as I finished watching your video I jumped to my usual orchid seller's website to see if they had any bronze maiden, which they... hadn't! Not sure if this is good or bad! Maybe I should wait to be a bit of a better grower...? But the temptation: those silver leaves!
    Lovely video as usual :-)

    Thank you so much for doing my 'lil video suggestion :D ! I really did enjoyed watching it!! I did get back to Orchids thanks to foliage Orchids! I was like " at least, if it won't flower, I'll still have nice foliage to look at". Thankfully, because of the videos, advices and tips from you and all of the Orchid people, I was able to make a few of my Orchids bloom for me :D !

      Hey! No problem! I wasn't sure about putting screenshot of requests up, I've done that before with names in and some people don't like it, which is totally understandable! It was a great suggestion, so thanks for that! I love orchids even when they aren't blooming, and some are just so beautiful anyway, even if they never bloomed. Another one is Maxillaria rachenhieniema which I ordered from Ecuagenera last month, but it's supposed to be tricky and isn't here yet so I couldn't include it. So glad your orchids are doing well 🙂

    Love the dendrobiums ... both the leonis and the anceps... all are stunning but how you grow the funky dens is admirable! Beautiful 😍

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't say admirable, but I took it slowly with unmounting the anceps and did an intermediate "stick the whole thing in a pot" stage, and I think that really helped. We talked about it at the time and you reassured me you wouldn't have removed it at the time of year either, so thankyou as always 🙂💗

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOrchidRoom yeah, but look at it now! It is admirable!! At least for me! You have the orchid X factor... the color on the leaves, the health of all the structures.. it would easily pass at fake ... i admire you ❤

    Great topic! Gosh, there’s just too many to name....I love them all, that’s why I am so obsessed with orchids. Lately, I’ve been really interested in Asian orchids, especially the sedirea japonica, den moniliforme, and Neofinetia falcatas, the smaller cymbidiums...down another rabbit hole I go 😂

  • @bettapalfish9057
    @bettapalfish9057 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of my favorite Phals has darker leaves with ridges. Nice broad leaf with some red underneath, flowers are pink. I think it has some Doritis in parentage. My most favorite are Neofinetia Falcata. You collection is gorgeous.

    some mottled-leaf paph leaves feel like sand paper, similar to Psychopsis :)
    As far as leaf-pattern and shape are concerned, I also recommend the Japanese and Chinese Cymbidium which have variegated leaves and shapes of various types, and the long leaves are so stylish, in mild wild especially.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the textures! And many are fragrant I believe as an added bonus? I've had my eye on some of the variegated cymbidiums, but not sure I have the space for any more cymbs...

    I love my giant bush of a Maxillaria tenuifolia, it's a huge ball of arching leaves, I am in love with it.
    I would add Psychopsis and Trichocentrum as well, they get a bit of spotting and they have really sturdy, thick leaves

    Thank you for the recommendations, they are all amazing!! I've decided that I either want fragrant orchids or orchids with interesting foliage, so this was perfect!!
    If you're now getting into other "houseplants" (my plant journey is opposite than yours), I totally suggest you get an Aeschynanthus marmoratus, you'll love it. It's also way more beautiful in real life, hopefully I'll have a video of it pretty soon.
    Have a nice evening!! 😊

    I have the Paph Lynleigh Koopowitz (delenatii x malipoense) and the leaves are beautiful, dark green with light green lacing, there's also a burgundy undertone under my 600 lumen LED shop lights (my least bright lights). Also, my Schillmann has similar leaves to yours (it's the same cross with the mannii black) and the undersides of the leaves are completely purple (not red, but purple) under my 900 lumen LED shop lights. I really like the foliage of Zygonisia Murasaki Komachi, it looks like huge blades of grass, mine has leaves that are almost 2 feet long and it is soooooo easy to grow. Chysis orchids have wonderful grass-like foliage that are similar in appearance to the Murasaki Komachi but are more rounded.

    I don’t own a mottled orchid at this moment, since my orchid hobby started only two years ago my focus has always been the flowers. But I love your mottled orchids, maybe I will get one just to try.

    • @TheOrchidRoom

      Maybe a mottle leaf phal? Schilleriana has a lovely fragrance so that would be my top, but the marmarota variety of pulcherrima is readily available in Europe 🙂 Or paph delenatii has a lovely subtle fragrance if you like paphs 🙂

    I love this video! Several new on my wish list. I prefer plants with nice foliage, as the flowers are more uncertain for a beginner like me. I just stopped killing Phalaenopsis (2 live ones now) and have 3 different Paphiopedilum (my break through with orchids).

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Me either! Especially when there are so many orchids with just as good (I think better 😉 ) foliage, with lovely flowers and often fragrant! Why would you want just a leaf plant when you can have it all 😆😀

      @@TheOrchidRoom All my non-orchids are capable of blooming, except my golden pothos.
      Though some have decidedly unremarkable blooms or have yet to bloom for me (spider plants, alocasia amazonica, sanseveria cylindrica), at least they have that variety of doing something different every now and again. And some have nice blooms (schlumbergera).

    Fantastic plants! Am quite amazed by your Ang. leonis. Every time I buy one, they’re always tiny and never do well! Yours is huge! Where did you get it? Love all the mottled leaved ones! I have a schilleriana, stuartiana and phillipinensis! I have one paph Maudiae green too which I love the look of. That bronze maiden is amazing. Wish I’d known about that 🙈

    • @BC-fh3jt

      Phal. lindenii shares similar mottles on the leaves, and the blooms are equally attractive. I highly recommend lindenii as a cool-to-warm grower for orchid lovers living in cooler environment :)

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe we should try to compile a mottle phal list! 🤓
      This Angraecum leonis I got as a small, dehydrated plant just over a year and a half ago, from grossraeschen orchids. I have 2 other angraecum leonis, one a seedling from Roellke with narrower leaves, growing very fast, another smaller, fatter plant from Schwerter. All grow well, obviously purchased as smaller plants than they are now but none were tiny, not even the seedling really!

    • @annathornburn4716
      @annathornburn4716 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOrchidRoom I wish I could post a pic here. I’ve had 3 in the past and all died. I got one from Schwerter after seeing a previous video of yours and loving the size, but mine was two little plants on a mount rather than one decent sized one and one rotted and the other looks awful. So I got another from Schwerter recently (cheaper so I know it would be smaller) but it’s absolutely tiny. Will be year and years before it’s half the size of yours!

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a shame TH-cam removed the PM feature! The one I got from schwerter is slower growing so I do wonder about the different forms, as it has a slightly different shape and size. If Roellke still have some may be worth trying their 'young plant' size, as it's actually quite reasonable and I can attest that it's a fast grower.

    I would love to see timelapse of orchids. How they move their leaves toward light each day. So we know that they dont stand there doing nothing :)

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great suggestion! They don't move their leaves during 24 hour cycles to the same extent as some house plants, but some move more than others! However, I don't have the equipment for time lapses at the moment 😥

  • @knotyeoldecrochet

    Omg your Paphiopedilum malipoense ... That teeny tiny dark bit at the centre ... Is that a flower spike sheath? Or do you think a new leaf?

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I know, the malipoense is so stunning! I got it as a seedling and it has made a couple of leaves for me, but no side shoots yet. I know it's actually a miniature paph though, compared to many, so it's possible this is actually blooming size now. So it could be a bloom sheath! I was expecting for it to make more side shoots first though, but it's supposed to be slower growing than many, so I'm not sure!

    Maggie Oei is compact? The leaves aren't wide but I've seen it 20 feet (6 meters) tall here growing up a palm tree.
    My goodness your MS Sunlight is huge. I give up with mine, it just will not grow, it gets smaller and smaller and smaller. Ah well.

    • @TheOrchidRoom
      @TheOrchidRoom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mistake 😆😆 I meant, it doesn't seem to get the same width as many big vandas. But I have read about Archnis in general being giant viners, so I was prepared at some point for it to need some floorspace and a pole support 😆 I would love a palm tree with an Arachnis on! If I win the lottery I'll buy a unit and make a rainforest 😆
