    Roger didn't become starter at qb until 1971,he was 29 years old. In 9 years as starter for the Cowboys he won 4 NFC Championships and 2 Superbowls. Amazing. Just think what he could have done if he had chosen to go straight into the NFL after his 4 years at Navy. A true hero, legend and winner.

    I had his poster up in my room as a kid. I remember I was crushed when Jackie Smith dropped the wide open TD pass from Roger in the SB.

    Let me say this. Staubach Montana, Stabler, Bradshaw ,Plunkett Elway Marino . They all gaves us something very special to watch that we will never see again. We were very lucky to see it. They had leadership and knew how to win under pressure. That's when it counts. They are all classic Those might disagree in today's NFL quarterbacks. They don't have it like those Gentlemen I mention. Not being disrespectable. Just alone when you mention the last names of these quakerbacks back then... enough said.

    The numbers don't show it and many disagree, but Roger was the greatest QB to ever play. I remember watching him play when I was 13 and I knew then I was watching something VERY special. I agree with Don S., he never, ever, no matter what, ever gave up. There will never be another Roger; not even close. Thanks for the memories, Roger; you're still the greatest and you always will be.

      Vias Carson Wentz is the next Staubach, the way they gant around the field, Stopping and spinning, to outmanuever a defnder then chucking a beautiful ball 50 years down the field. Only staubach and Wentz. Run and throw that way. Just look at their movements, near identical.

    This guy never slid, he fought for his life every play, he took some licks, but could make some plays that make you sick with envy. I know I'm a 49ers fan, but this guy did exactly what Steve Young did as a scrambler, and can make those off the cuff throws that Rodgers and Wilson do. He extends plays, makes terrific throws that if Favre attempted would be INTs, but he played balls out like Favre. He served his time after college in the Navy in Vietnam, and he had the 2 coolest nicknames ever, "The Dodger," and "Captain Comeback". This guy is just amazing no matter how you slice it, no matter what team you like.

    Have never heard another player or human say anything bad about him. He is universally respected and admired. He was bigger than life to me as a boy growing up in the 70's. I've had the honor of meeting him twice and each time he was just so genuine. Breaks my heart when I see what the NFL has become and I'm sure Rogers feels the same.

    One of the GREATEST things I have on dvd is from 1990 and it is the complete Cowboys vs Over The Hill Gang Redskins flag football game from RFK. This film is so amazing. My hero Charlie Waters is playing with braces on his knees giving it all he can, Drew Pearson getting into with Pat Fischer hell two punches were thrown and they meant it. Calvin Hill running all over them, BJ DuPree and I believe Tony Hill and Fitzgerald played as well. Maybe even Harvey Martin I have to go watch it again. However, ROGER played and OMG He was 50 yrs old at the time. Roger ran those Redskins into the friggin ground, they were DYING chasing him all over the field. Geoge Allen was going crazy because he said Roger should not be allowed to scramble because he ran them DOWN, they were dead on the field. Let alone throwing for over 400 yards. The Cowboys beat them by 24 points putting 48 or 49 on the board..The year previous they played the same flag football game at Texas Stadium and the beat the Redskins I believe it was 28-0 or 28-7, it was on the NFL's Greatest Rivalries dvd. I am telling you that flag football game in 1990 would make you so proud as a Cowboys fan and Roger was even going after George Starke.

I am sick of seeing tidbits of it...damn...the dvd could be his Football Life show, the scrimmage stuff, military footage they have , it could be amazing. Kind of like the DVD NHL put out on Gretzky it was 6 hours of Gretz, they should do one of Roger.

    The 6:42 mark!!!!!!! I'm as big a Dallas Cowboys' fan as there is and have been since 1965 and to this day I still have nightmares over that one play! Jackie Smith was one of the best TE in the NFL at that time and no one ever felt the pain as he did after letting that perfect throw from Staubach literally bounce off his chest! If he makes that TD catch, Dallas wins Super Bowl XIII over Pittsburgh!

    Staubach known for his scrambling could throw football bullets as well as the bomb. Bobby Douglass of the Bears who ran for his life thanks to cheapo George Halas (didn't buy an offensive line) had the greatest arm in NFL history (could throw a pass 90 yards) or a 65-yard bullet. Look it up.

    Totally worshipped Roger Staubach,growing up in the 1970’s. he was a role model any parent of the day, could respect. in the second super bowl against the Steelers, Dallas should have won. the Jackie Smith dropped pass. the phantom pass interference call on Benny Barnes. even the nfl admitted it was a terrible call. aikman won one more title, but staubach by far is the Cowboys best quarterback. he proudly served his country for five years. it took a while for Tom Laundry to realize that staubach was a better quarterback than Craig Morton. Romo’s stats were so inflated by the pass happy nfl. when staubach played it was a lot different game. instead of the 35-31 games of today,it was the 17-13 games. that nfl was a lot better product. you were even allowed to play defense. the receiver and the cornerback were allowed to fight for position going down the field. not like today, where it is an automatic flag. or if you just bumped the quarterback, there would be no flag for roughing the passer.

    As great a coach as Tom Landry was, the dumbest decision he ever made was to not replace Craig Morton with Roger Staubach after Morton's pathetic performance (8-26, 3 interceptions) in the humiliating ass-whupping the Cowboys received at the hands of the Cardinals on Monday Night Football in 1970. If Staubach had started in Super Bowl V, it's a virtual certainty Dallas would have won that game. The Colts were so unimpressive that they're the only team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl and yet not have a member of their team receive the Most Valuable Player award.

    • @ixoyedeg
      @ixoyedeg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      SingleTax, Landry’s weakness was always evaluating QBs. He had the same problem when it came to Danny White and Gary Hogeboom and then again with Danny White and Steve Pelluer. One of the greatest schemers ever, but he not a great QB evaluator.

      The way he plays when he looks is such a small part of why Roger is so special. He best shows what they mean about intangibles. Roger not just on the football field but in everything he did he made those around him better. So Carson Wentz may look similar to Roger when he plays but he or no one else is a Roger Staubach.
