  • Chuck Foreman was the precursor to the modern NFL Running Back. He switched back and forth between Fullback and Running back during his career (1973-1980) and with his soft hands he led the league in receptions once. Foreman rivaled OJ Simpson as the the RB of the 1970's. His 1975 season was legendary as he led the NFL in receptions, scored 22 Touchdowns which would have set the NFL season record had OJ Simpson with some help from a snowball not done him one better with 23. The snowball also cost Foreman the NFC rushing title in 75. Foreman also played in 3 Super Bowls, coming up short to some of the greatest teams of all time.
Foreman was heading towards a first ballot Hall of Fame career until being over worked and a knee injury in1978 cost him his quickness and agility. He put on weight in an attempt to re-invent himself as a more powerful back, but he was primarily used as just a 3rd down back his last 2 years. Foreman was traded to New England in 1980 before retiring in 1981. He attempted a comeback in 1983 in the USFL but failed to make the New Jersey Generals and retired for good.
Chuck Foreman's career resembles Gayle Sayers who also had a phenomenal but brief career. Like Sayers, Foreman should be in the Hall of Fame. The recency bias of the Hall against older non recently retired players needs to be addressed.
I also stole the James Brown Super Bad song idea from TH-camr Bruce Davis and his Foreman video.
