  • In this video, We discuss how colonies react to apiguard treatments in the heat. We demonstrate how it can effectively be used to treat varroa mites in the summer heat. Its not without concern but is still a viable option for use in the southeast. We hope you enjoy this video and can learn something from our experience. Thanks for watching and Happy Beekeeping.

I have doing a bunch of research on this because I have never used it. Just ordered apivar to get me to the fall.

Thanks for the update. I may have to consider it if my Apivar doesn't work this year. So far Apivar and OAV has worked well.

Glad to hear you are having great luck with the Apivar. We really like it also. It works most times and works well. There have been some reports of it not working, but we can’t speak first hand on that. Maybe not as effective for us as in the past but it has always dropped the mites.

First time seeing your video. I'm planning to treat my hives tomorrow. And I was nervous about the temperature. We have temps in the mid to upper 80's but I really need to treat. Thanks for sharing

Sorry for the delayed response I have been out of the Country. We use apiguard in the low 90's at a lower dose. We use 4 treatments of 25ml one per week for 4 weeks.

@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 since this question I have been using OAV. I plan to use Apiguard during large brood.

Hey Craig…we used apiguard for the first time 2 days ago after watching your videos…we used apivar and still had too high mite counts so we are using apiguard and OA…my question is we are seeing on the sticky boards that they are uncapping brood and pulling out the brood…just wondered if that’s normal also? I heard you say it’s normal for the queen to stop laying but didn’t hear anything about it affecting the brood. Thanks again for your help!!

Hi Meloney! It is sometimes normal for them to expel some brood. What are your temperature’s and what dose did you use?

@@thesidelinebeekeeper-craig6924 we are in North Florida temps have been high 30s in the morning to mid 70s in the afternoon and we did the 33ml (or whatever those letters are🤣) and are gonna do it 2 more times. We have I think 25 hives or so now…and almost everyone of them were uncapping brood! I will message you in FB if you don’t mind and send you a few pics of the sticky boards.

When you only use 12ml in a small colony do you do any extra treatments? Or is it the same number of treatments as the strong colonies that get 25ml?

Sorry for the late response. Some colonies move it around and disperse it rapidly and others take a little longer. Happy Beekeeping
