The best video about the Oxalic Acid Varroa treatment. I've ordered the Varomorus Oxalic Acid Vaporizer with your link, it is an AMAZING tool. Thank you, Tim!
Great Video Tim. My dad raised hives in So Cali for 20 years, then when moved to OK and bought his 160 acres, he usually keeps 3-4 hives working when he can. He's not real serious about working them though. But he does volunteer with local animal control and for public buildings in the county like schools and such, he removes hives at no charge when they swarm and he keeps them in boxes and just lets the hive do it's thing to polinate on his property. If they swarm again to a tree on his property somewhere he don't much care. He just wants them for polination and has pretty much given his extractors and equipment away. He's had Leukemia for about the last 7 years so he's not up for the work anymore.
Thank you so much!! I'm a new beekeeper and lost one of my hives to mites. I'm now doing tons of research on beekeeping an found this video to be very helpful. Purchased the OA as well as the vaporizer and even a small battery to keep in my bee shed. Wish me luck
Your plastic duck looks REALLY cold! (Chuckin him was kinda mean!). Thanks for using the Oxalic Acid vaporizer that WE can all afford! I think I will end up making my own out of pipe but I really wanted to see how these work in case my project doesn’t get done in time or simply doesn’t work. The University of Florida has unofficially ‘observed’ that 4 grams is the most effective dose for a 2-5 box healthy hive. The ‘legal’ recommended dose of 1 gram was ‘observed’ to be almost completely ineffective….so that’s a thought…..I’m going to try that…. We also treat once per week for five weeks four times per year. Healthy bees mean happy hives!
A single treatment works well in the winter if you know they have no brood. If you want to treat OAV while they have brood, you can treat 5 times ever 5 days. You'll cover the entire brood cycle.
Great video! I was vaporizing one day and I looked in the field and the wind was blowing towards the house and it was a huge cloud of oa, LOOKOUT Dogs lol geez
I was always taught that I needed to treat the hives 3 times, 1 week apart with the Oxalic Acid so it gets the whole cycle of bees. Those that are out working & those that are just coming out of the enclosed brood. I am understanding that the mites are in the larvae as well. Any thoughts?😊
Good morning my friend.... Love the intro....I think I'd test on one before hitting them all.. have you done this before?.... Very good to know... Excellent and well thought out video my friend... Have a very blessed day my friends
You don’t have to go expensive on materials. You can even use plywood or osb for the boxes. A nuc of bees is about $150. That was a Queen and five frames of bees and eggs already going. I’ve lost some swarms I’ve caught but still have tow hives. I’ve learned so much and it’s worth the trouble for sure!
Oh yeah, but you need air flow in winter to keep them dry. I use a screened bottom board year round. Up north, it’s solid though but you actually add holes up top or prop a box up to get air flow in winter! Moisture kills bees more than cold.
I did this two years ago and the wand gets so hot it scorched the wood on the frames and one of the frames was plastic and it melted it. There were a ton of dead bees the next day when I inspected. I'm also pretty sure the queen must have been down there and it cooked her too because the hive died out shortly afterward. I'm a new beekeeper and have a lot to learn but something doesn't seem right about this method. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm about to do my first treatment. You said and I've also read that the vaporizer should not touch metal. But if I have a screened bottom board, isn't that a problem? You didn't seem to do anything special about that. Can you help me? I also don't have a sticky board for my screened bottom board so I will have to block it off somehow during treatment.
I guess it would act as a heat sink. The screen doesn't do much since not much mass. You do need to seal the bees though so a bottom cover is needed for best treatment. Just make sure not to catch it on fire!!
@@RidgeLife good move the vapours are so nasty. I tested my vaporizer in my garage and even a few minutes after finishing the sublimation and taking my mask off thinking it had all cleared I was still feeling some of it lingering around and vacated the area.
Dr. Ridgelife he will 🐝 at your service. Saving hive lives.
Ha! Thanks brother. Happy New Year!!!

That is awesome Alex! Be sure to get protective equipment too if you haven't already! Stay safe!!! Thank you.

Sorry to hear about Han health but glad he enjoys the bees. They are so therapeutic to me as well! Happy New Year!!!
I am not a bee keeper, but this is so informative. I see a lot of new bee keepers lose a lot of bees so I will share to those channels
Thank you so much! Happy New Year!!!
Awesome video. I am glad you are protecting bother the bees and yourself!

Good luck! I love working with my bees!
Clear instruction and gave the level 1/4 teaspoon/1gm of Oxalic acid
Thank you!
Thanks for the video Tim, keep on rolling them out!!
Will do!
Watching your videos reminds me of watching Bob Vila in This old house as a kid! 😀
Ha! I remember him. I will take that as a compliment! Happy New Year!!!

Very true!
We did our bees for the first time this year. It wasn’t as hard as I’d imagined.
That’s how I felt too!
Good video Tim!👍🏻😎 Happy New Year!🎆🎇
Thank you and Happy New Year!!!
Have a Blessed New Year

Very interesting, will be waiting to see if you had a dead mites or not. Thanks for sharing and Happy New year 👍🐝
Thanks Mary! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Tim to you and the family. Those gunshots sounded fairly close mate. May 2021 be better for you than 2020 was
Happy New Year! Oh, yeah! We live in the country. Always gunfire on weekends. Hunting and target practice. Gotta love it!
Thanks for the knowledge! You should try the BeeScaning app for detection, find the mites with your camera and AI! Works great!
Cool! Thx!

@@JoeMeeuwsen correct on timing the hatching brood. The sequence I stated is the beekeeping association from my areas method.

Thanks brother. This is the first OA on these hived but it it tried and true method. Very simple!
Happy New Year Tim great info! I need to do better with my hives!
Happy New Year!!!
What's the risk of causing burns to the bottom boards or even a fire?
Almost none. Just don’t walk away and leave unattended.
Nice tip Video Tim
Thanks 👍
Ya get those mites!!
Oh yeah! Happy New Year!!!
Veeeery interesting video... What does that stuff smell like?
Hmm... I’m not gonna try and find out!
Колко е дебелината на нагряващата плочка?
Благодаря.
It think it’s like 1/2”
Благодаря Ви.
Къде се произвеждат или продават тези изпарители?
Много Ви благодаря.
Yes. I may have put a link in the description. Cant recall.

How many amperes should the battery be? Thank you.
Doesn’t have to be a giant battery but 12vdc. Using a atv or lawnmower battery is perfect.
Happy New Year

Happy New Year!!!
Do you take the honey frames out?
For sure!
I’d love to get bees but things like mites and just die off make me nervous given the hives and equipment aren’t cheap.

What do you think that's doing to your bees
Kept them mostly mite free. I actually don’t do it often as going for the let nature win approach now.
Great video thanks
Thanks! Happy New Year!
How was the die off of mite ?
It wasn’t that bad! These are both small colones to begin with but the board was fairly clear.
Will they seal up the air gaps if they're too big?
Oh yeah, but you need air flow in winter to keep them dry. I use a screened bottom board year round. Up north, it’s solid though but you actually add holes up top or prop a box up to get air flow in winter! Moisture kills bees more than cold.

Nice but tbh I think you need to get a proper mask with vapour cartridges for OA.
That is always better. I have them now as well.
