    If You don't block holes in crown board and let bees between it and the roof then what is the point of having it? It is there to stop bees propolising roof to hive. If you feel that they need extra ventilation use porter escapes or a piece of ply with mesh in it. Regards Rob

    can you tell me what are your thoughts/reasoning on using the super below the brood box for winter.
    I should point out this will be my first winter with my hives and looking what way to go through winter. Cheers Michael

      Hi, the bees will form a cluster with their queen at the highest point in brood box over winter to keep warm. By putting the super underneath provides another insulating layer from the cold ground. the boxes can be swapped back in early spring when they become active again. Cheers Woodforgeuk
