This is one of those rare tunes that become a different song when the rhythm is changed. We used to end our dance gigs back in the fifties with this tune but we played it at a slow, dreamy tempo. The Gypsy Jazz Band's up-tempo version excellently shows that the tune could be an opening number for a dance session. This group would be welcome at any venue.
That is some fine playing, lads! Amazing how two guitars and a bass can sustain a song like that! I love Brian Keegan's trombone playing. It's pretty obvious that he was strongly influenced by Tommy Dorsey!
Great work, guys. I'm a fan now. Ever need an old fashioned vocalist, let me know. I record many of the old tunes...but this great gypsy jazz is a favorite style I don't get to sing much.
batzic I take your point FULLY but whilst the first beat is the longest beat, the sense of swing is achieved by shortening and stopping (muting) the 2nd beat. This emphasises the off beat. Just try clapping along on that 1st beat and then shift to the second and feel the shift from "square" as they used to call it, to swing/up beat/exciting. Drummers do it with rim-shots. They're VERY brief but don't half rock it along! Rheinhart and particularly his rhythm guitarist exploited it fully. Glad that you enjoyed it like I did!
@@MauriatOttolink sorry I don't understand how the first beat could be longer than the second one. Each beat is divided in a -virtual- triplet where you play the first leg, omit the second, and -eventually- play the third. That division by three is not necessarily equal, each swing musician having his own vision of shuffle. Now this is not what I'm talking about. In a gypsy swing four beats bar, there is one-TWO-three-FOUR, rince and repeat. The subdivision of each beat by three is another problem altogether.
@@batzic Hi Mr Batzic. I'm not suggesting that the length or position of the 4 beats is changed but (it stems from the guitar in this case) the played notes/sounds are of different length. I'm a jazz sax player but have played rhythm guitar in the past. The guitarist strums the 1st & 3rd notes of the bar with the strings undamped but rapidly damps the strings on 2 & 4. That way the sound played on beats 1& 3 is longer than that played on 2 & 4. This produces the powerful OFF beat effect of swing. You are right that we do hear the interpretation of the individual player's 'feel' for the swing. Even electronically, one musical notation program, maybe others includes in "Expression' :- No swing, Light Swing, Heavy Swing. The concept which you describe of a triplet with one missing is also VERY valid but it isn't there in the player's head, as he plays it. However it IS revealed when a performance or a recording is analysed. Clapping on the off-beat represents the short sound of off-beats 2 & 4. like a rim shot from a drummer...which they didn't have....imparting the emphasis. The snag with TH-cam is that it's difficult to get things across accurately in words? Regards...M.O.L.
This is awesome! As someone from marketing I'll have to say, though - people are less prone to engage with ads than organic content. Get rid of the call-to-action right in your vid title, slap the band's name on it instead, and you're guaranteed to see the like numbers rise. If people want to book your act, they'll find you. :)
this is so cool, i don't listen to much of this style of jazz but it's super playful and cool to listen to! glad i found this video, great musicianship
the clarinet is'nt playing at all. I am a clarinet player, and this one is not played. There is no movment ine theses fingers, or really odds one. plus, when u look the credit, there is no clarinet player in the band.
@@MalucoLapin The clarinet is playing . he' moving his fingers. I also hear teh clarinet . i teh chalumea register. The back ground harmony is 3 part voicing. I am a clarinetist and arranger (Art Marshall, look me up at youtube Petite Fleur)
Django and Stephane should be put on Mt. Rushmore. Their great musical tradition will never die with groups like this. Wonderful rendition.

That's the smoothest trombone tone I've ever heard!!! Fantastic rendition of "I'll See You in My Dreams"
I know I'm quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@@rorykamryn3923 lol no idea
@Rory Kamryn Ehh I watch on flixportal. Just google for it =) -ian
@Ian Mekhi thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it!!
@Rory Kamryn you are welcome xD
This could well be the greatest thing I've ever seen on the internet......
This is the kind of music listening over and over again...
I didn't know Wes Anderson played the upright bass so well.
That is a heavenly trombonist
Trumpet sounds so smooth!!!
Such a smooth rich trombone sound!!! Gives me chills every time
Good to hear unamplified, gypsy music and see it becoming popular again.
Django's influence is present!; great trombone solo.
Real music played by real musicians, love it!!!!
smoothest trombone ever witnessed
Sounds like Django! Fantastic!
Great to see young guys playing real music. Well done.
Wes Anderson is killing it on the bass.
They are feeling the music... Wonderful !!
T-Bone so smooth! This band has such a nice flow! Bravo!
freaking trombone nailed the era, sure sound like the 20's. Great job....no legendary
I couldn't help but hear Tommy Dorsey when he played.
@@demef758 I was just thinking..who does that mellow trombone tone remind me of?...bang on!
False. No room for brass or wind Instruments in gypsy jazz.
This is just nice enjoyable music. Why not keep this page of American music's history alive.
omg, goosebumbs at the trombone solo. Incredible...

What a band...The outfits are great so stylish.
Hi friends very nice !!!
Джанго и Грапелли тянут за собой рой замечательных музыкантов. Слава Богу, что он творит такие таланты! Михаил, Россия.
love the legato trombone choice.
Bands that sit tightly together look so much better than the ones who sprawl out.
Marvellous. They should play a meeting with clarinet - genious Martin Schmidt-Hahn. 2 clarinets could be a nice thing for a surprise-concert
I like this stuff and I mean that in the most respectful way.
The jazz is very excellent.
Love it Guys, real musicians dressed with panache and playing real music with style!
Look at them in their matching suits! With other instruments! Love the trombone! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Such amazing talent and beautiful music.
Wish I could guve it more than one thumbs up.
Trombone is on fire!
I wish I could afford to have them follow me around like a hype band....
You guys sound GREAT!!! Sending kindest regards and all good things!!! Keep swinging!
Excellent band and musicians, enjoyed this so much......brilliant stuff, loved it
Wow . Wish I lived in Utah
Excellent my Brothers!
The guitar teacher wanted me to be the lead guitarist for the jazz band at school , but I don't think I'm ready hahaha
Let me put on my dancing shoes to hit the boards with this swinging outfit. Love this music.
Lovely stuff gents. More!!

BEAUTIFUL TONES....love...love!
Oh my! How sweet is that sound! Love it!
Perfect sound !
So well done!
Really nice. Bring it up to New Hampshire!
Very nice
Very nice indeed, and they look great!
A gypsy jazz band putting the rhythm accent on the first beat is indeed incredible.
As in never heard until now.
batzic good catch!
@@steveroberts930 Could be a good idea to try to put the rhythmic accent on the back beat (the second an fourth one on a four beats bar). Please.
