I was having the same issue as a few people here mentioned. I built my farm, but was getting Caverns music and Caverns spawns (lots of bats, giant bats, skeletons, and armored skeletons - no dungeon spawns). I put in 250 dungeon bricks above my farm, so they're on-screen, and actuated them so they're out of the way. That did the trick.

Hey Daniel, I'm really glad that you like my videos! Thanks as well for the support by being my 2nd sub! The dungeon farm can be tricky to keep AFK depending on armor and accessories so if you run into any issues feel free to ask. You can also add in more statues too for more healing. To be honest though, I make these video's completely for fun and to hopefully help some people out. It's not for money, so even if I stay at 2 subs that's enough motivation for me. Cheers!
Your videos are realy awesome man. Keep up the great work ;) PS: I thought about it and I think it might be an improvement if you´d use boubles from partygirl to keep the lava from overflowing instead of the dungeonbrick edges, also i´d hoik the monsters at the second teleporter so they won´t teleport back. But that would be onely a slight improvement. Also sorry for the bad language, I am not native to an English speaking country :p
You can set it up before hardmode with just lava and add the traps later. The point of setting it up pre-hardmode is so you don't have to mine out a ton of the dungeon while being swarmed by powerful enemies.
I skipped this farm because I wanted to progress. Very bad idea. I'm now building one post moon lord in order to have less difficulty in grinding for ectoplasm.
This farm works great, I'm a new player followed this guide pre-hardmode, updated it after temple, and only thing that mess's with me is the diabolists and ragged casters which spawn kinda rarely. Thank you The Secret Level.
I know im a little late, but certain post-plantera dungeon enemies spawn more commonly on certain types of dungeon walls (tiled, brick, slabed). The wiki details this.
You could improve this - place more teleports down bellow, with pressure plates that mobs can activate. That gets rid of the 1 sec timer delay, making it as fast as a mob stepping on the pressure plate. You could have up to 8 teleports (4 wires x 2 non-connecting spaces [both ends] on the end/trap teleporter), but you prob don't need that many; plus it'd be a wiring nightmare. An extra 2 or 3 teleporters down bellow would do nicely.
I recently did this and I will give some few notes for anyone who will build this: For the platform where the mobs will spawn, they must also be dungeon bricks, as any other bricks would not work. I tried using stone blocks but it only spawns cavern mobs, when I changed it to dungeon bricks, dungeon mobs began to spawn When clearing the area and deciding where you'll put the afk spot, make sure that the background theme is dungeon, and not caverns. There are several areas where I cleared the bricks but the bg music is caverns, and only cavern mobs will spawn. Try to add a thin layer of lava below the spawning area. The mobs will be forced to spawn on the platform and mobs won't spawn on blocks with lava.
All i did is I built all the farms before hardmode and just swapped into hardmode when i was ready. And with the healing potions and a macro you can do this farm with meteorite armour with baubles that raise defence
FYI I made some improvements to this design to handle the casters and skulls. For the casters, I put a telepad with 3 pressure plates on each side of the lava above wired to the telepad that feeds into the trap. If they spawn ON the telepad they will not teleport, so to counter this I put a hoik 2 blocks above each telepad pointing inward towards the lava. I then hooked the hoiks up to a 1 second timer that actuates them on and off. If the casters spawn on the pad, the hoik will move them either onto a pressure plate forcing them down into the trap, or over into the lava. If they spawn on the hoik itself, it will then actuate off causing them to hit the telepad and force them into the trap. For the skulls below, I simply put some spear traps below me facing down (about 6 of them) which forced them to the side and then they always come into the box I am in, which is filled with minions. I also replaced the floor below the lava with conveyors to bring all the loot to me and this is now a GREAT AFK farm : Good luck all!!
I set up traps on the platform where they spawn. 1 flamethrower and one dart trap. Also did that in the inner area with the teleporter but without the flamethrower. The damage made it so they couldn’t fire. I also but lava with bubbles at the tips of the platforms on the ends so they can’t teleport there.
Hi, love your videos, thanks for sharing. Just curious, is there a technical reason why this one uses a long straight platform and teleporters instead of the pyramidal shape used in your other biome farms? Cheers :)
A couple tips if anyone is still reading comments on this video: you should probably build this right before you fight plantera because the same enemies that spawned in prehardmode will keep spawning until after plantera, and you’ll have a better pickaxes and armor than if you built it prehardmode. Also you can loot the jungle temple before plantera by putting three blocks in front of the temple door, hammering them into corner blocks (should loops kinda like spikes) and then actuating them off. If my explanation of how to set up the door glitch doesn’t make sense, watch some of zerogravitas videos. I’m sure he’s explained it
I just built this pre- hardmode, and I'm noticing that the Blazing Wheel traps teleport into and on the farm and start dealing massive damage. The Wheels trigger the pressure switch i have hooked up to the bottom teleporter pad. Do you think there is any way to stop this? The dungeon is green and in expert.
It's called The Grand Design, It is an all in one accessory for wiring. One of the accessories that makes it up is the ruler, purchased from the goblin tinker. If you only need the measurements you can just use the ruler.
The enemies don't want to spawn on the platform for some reason. The platform is 40 blocks below my afk spot. do the blocks need to be original dungeon blocks? Edit: They do have to be dungeon blocks, and you can place them. They don't have to be original blocks. Just thought I'd add this for those who have the same queston.
Im getting roughly 2 million bats spawning in my farm and its reducing the amount of dungeon mobs that spawn. I have been looking up what causes bat spawns and what I need to do to get rid of them and it seems that no-one knows wtf they are talking about. im posting this in hopes of someone being able to help get rid of these damn bats. My farm is practically identical to the video and all my dungeon walls aren't placed by me. If needed I can post a video to show my situation in a little more detail. Thanks
The requirements to make a dungeon are set here, specifically: Must be below the surface level of the world Must consist of 250 dungeon brick All 250 of said dungeon brick must be place behind naturally occurring dungeon walls. You just dont have right biome, adding bricks should get rid of bats.
So there are pockets of blank cavern layer on your map, fill them with stone "brick" and the colour dungeon bricks you have left over in any pockets that are open. I had to fill a pocket above the dungeon box I made, the stone/dirt layer had a pocket and I had nothing but bats spawning, filled it and they stopped
Mine works great, didn’t clear out nearly as much space and used all dungeon bricks to make it. Also putting traps on the outside helps a lot with curses skulls
Is this still valid for 1.4? Just about getting a decent bit of survivability in Master Mode and looking to start setting the farms up before hardmode ensues!
so i have no clue what i did wrong but my farm doesn't produce any ectoplasm lol but if i go down to my platform where my enemies spawn the ectoplasm enemies start to spawn and when i go to the bottom theres tons of enemies that drop the ectoplasm, I've got lots of bats too, any tips?
my guess is that you cleared out a space that didn't have many dungeon blocks and the game says you're just in the caverns biome instead of the dungeon
Cap here. You need to be standing in front of naturaly generated dungeon walls and the spaden area needs them too. Fill in the background with walls to avoid bats spawning. *flies away*
Great video! Looking forward to finally getting the sniper with this. One question, how do you deal with the dungeon spirits? With my setup, they don't seem to die to the machines.
Yeah they are a pain, the Diabolisk you can deal with traps and timer. For me I just use Clinger staff, some summons like the senguin staff, 1 sentry, and I find bringing whips useful since they can attack mobs that pass through walls including the spirits (or use the onyx blaster since they deal lots of damage on close range). They can still damage you but, it increases your survivability a bit. This makes the farm an active farm, but you really can't fully afk dungeon farms anyways. Though this is still easier than fighting hoards of mobs head on.
Well, I ended up just actuating most of the blocks still in the area after I got sick of mining them, plus I think if they're actuated it still counts to make it dungeon territory, which helps in small worlds because corruption could be right next to you. I'll save the lava buckets for after I raid some temple traps in hard mode. Right now I just let it fill up and jump down to farm some of the rare stuff. in Normal mode it's really fast to clear the whole floor if you force it to be flat with just a space gun or something.
There are three brown blocks above the right conveyor belt. What are those three blocks and what is their purpose? They look like activated jungle blocks but, if they are, why are those random three jungle blocks there when you already have the 40 on each side?
Blazing wheels spawning on the contraption the casters shooting me from the bottom. and the cursed skulls. doesn't work in 1.4 :'( well atleast my dungeon is a hollow mess :((
what i did was hollow out my dungeon in a large area then i made a simple pyramid with lava in it trap that was 10 blocks high i put a platform 40 blocks above my afk spot spanning across the whole room with a dart trap on each side on a 1 sec timer and dart traps 11 high on each side of the room ground level this way spells can't be cast at me from anywhere and enemies always spawn and fall down into my trap this should work i also actuated the dart traps obviously
Just want to alert everyone whos going to build this farm. Do not mine those stone and dirt area, it will turn your dungeon into that biome and spawn cave bats. If you did already try to cover it with green brick.
I guess I'm a bit late, seeing as you posted this six months ago haha. The point in hollowing out the area beneath the platform is to direct the spawning of the skeletons to the teleporter. Without hollowing out the surface the farm would be less efficient due to the widespread spawning of the skeletons. It's not mandatory, but it's a "quality of life" improvement
what if my dungeon doesnt have a LARGE open area like this but has maybe 30 blocks each side of dungeon and then its cavern or underground. will dungeon mobs still spawn enough?
So i have a problem that i built this farm and they do not spawn as shown in a video so i tried to understand why its happening but i couldnt my platform where enemies should spawn is around 40 blocks beneath my afk spot and i noticed that enemies spawn beneath platform even tho i dug up 100+ beneath tp platform, help?
lizards traps are stronger, kills enemies faster. Quicker kills means more enemies that can spawn to kill, which means more potential loot. You could have just lava, but the farming process will be slower.
when you realize that hollowing out a big space and make a small loot tunnel under the floor and do the classic lava/lizhard(sorry for the spelling) setup above and below you and super dart traps and flame traps on the sides is more simple and has the same efficiency
Hollow out the dungeon and build the general structure without the traps/conveyors/teleport pads. Instead of lizhard blocks just use mud that you've placed jungle grass seeds on. Doing that before hard mode makes creating a dungeon farm like this a LOT easier
i just end up with jungle bats thanks to the jungle biome effect. not sure if there´s anything i can do about that other than removing the lihzard blocks. Anyone know any way to kill the bats off without effecting the rest of the farm? After adding more dungeon bricks at the top in a way that nothing could spawn on them the bats stopped spawning and the dungeon mods spawned much more frequently. Now I just have problems with diabolists fire attack hitting too hard, not wanting to enter the teleporter without getting a few hits in first. Not sure if there´s anything that can be done to prevent that. Other than that this farm works pretty well. Just wasn´t able to be afk for too long.
How do you actuate spear traps without them becoming solid again? I have spear traps with actuators in them on a one second timer how do I make them stay not solid
i know this was awhile ago and you probably wont see this but i'm having a slight complication with mine and not sure what the problem is i've done everything in the video but barely anything spawns on the platform maybe its because im in the cavern layer (only big open area in dungeon) or something else but i'm not too sure and there not dropping loot only coins
yo, the background changes the biome, you need to be in the original dungeon background, and also you need to have atleast 100 dungeon blocks close to you so the dungeon mobs start spawning. at least that's what i've noticed, and also i've tried a super compact farm made by myself but i'm having so much trouble with those dam diabolists. to deal with this you just need to add some dart traps to the bottom, when these mages take damage, they stop casting.
also, if you want to boost your spawn rate and get some keys, you can add some corrupt or crimson blocks, just don't forget to actuate them, the only con of this is that you may see some corrupt/crimson enemyes
Thanks for the replay but i found out my answer i think it was because the area io did it in had alot of caves surrounding it so when i destroyed it it made it a normal cavern layer instead of a dungeon i found this out after makeing a smaller one in the stair way near the top and it spawns alot of mobs
How long should the mob spawning platform be Edit: also does killing Plantera increase spawn rates in the dungeon becuase I seem to not be getting as much as in the video but I haven’t killed Plantera yet so I’m wondering
I know this is late but more types of enemies will spawn in the dungeon after defeating plantera and if you don't get enough you can use battle potions and water candles
Have you tried putting lava filled bubbles at the top of the trap corners where the torches with a thin lava puddle connecting them? Would that prevent the caster mobs from spawning up there?
I suggest the filled bubble blocks as a potential way to insure that all the mobs spawn on the platform below, get teleported into the kill chamber, and not on top of the trap where they can deal damage and possibly kill me. I want to know if bubble blocks filled with lava can restrict available spawning locations
The secret level, Hello :) I build this farm post plantera just for fun, it is working well, lots of mobs spawning. But i have problem with diabolists:they spawn on the spawning platform, shoot their prouectiles and get me killed, can you help me? Thanks
it does work, but you will have to make additions to deal with the diabolists as they will kill you if they are allowed to cast from the bottom platform

For the casters, I put a telepad with 3 pressure plates on each side of the lava above wired to the telepad that feeds into the trap. If they spawn ON the telepad they will not teleport, so to counter this I put a hoik 2 blocks above each telepad pointing inward towards the lava. what if my dungeon doesnt have a LARGE open area like this but has maybe 30 blocks each side of dungeon and then its cavern or underground. will dungeon mobs still spawn enough?
you could try to fill the caverns arround the area you want to farm with dirt or sand
Yes as long as they're in dungeon.
Did you ever figure out what to do
?
What's the actual area of the trap room? Also, do we need the lizahrd traps?
lizards traps are stronger, kills enemies faster. Quicker kills means more enemies that can spawn to kill, which means more potential loot. You could have just lava, but the farming process will be slower.
Paul Lane, how about the fact that the dungeon will be too easy after killing golem a bunch of times
I don't know how this is related but I'll bite - what item dropped by the golem makes the dungeon too easy? And why is that a problem?
So why did you put the jungle bricks?
boost spawn rate (50% more)
I’m gonna try making this, but I’m in pre-hardmode.
when you realize that hollowing out a big space and make a small loot tunnel under the floor and do the classic lava/lizhard(sorry for the spelling) setup above and below you and super dart traps and flame traps on the sides is more simple and has the same efficiency
Do this still work on 1.4?
I have been farming and I got a sniper rifle a bone feather and 2 black belts
And no tabi
uhm, what about the timers, i have some, but cant seem to place them. any help?
oh no, found it out, i needs to be placed on the ground ;)
Yeahhhhh I’m just gonna sit in a box with minions, get the banners, and then chill out rather than doing that
*Dies to Diabolist*
What are the jungle blocks?
Danny Abramson lihzard bricks
how do we build it before hardmode if the materials are in hardmode
I have spear traps with actuators in them on a one second timer how do I make them stay not solid
remove the actuators once you have made the traps inactive (actuated) so it only fire without changing the state of the traps
How do u actuate a block without power? And keep it actuated when powering the traps
U need to take the actuators off after you actuate the traps.
What mod is that where he uses the ruler and is able to automatically place wiring? Like those icons on the left side. Next to inventory
it's a vanilla item, the grand design, search on the wiki how to craft, it's super simple i think
how do you actuate without the actuator?
Actuator rod.
i know this was awhile ago and you probably wont see this but i'm having a slight complication with mine and not sure what the problem is i've done everything in the video but barely anything spawns on the platform maybe its because im in the cavern layer (only big open area in dungeon) or something else but i'm not too sure and there not dropping loot only coins
yo, the background changes the biome, you need to be in the original dungeon background, and also you need to have atleast 100 dungeon blocks close to you so the dungeon mobs start spawning. at least that's what i've noticed, and also i've tried a super compact farm made by myself but i'm having so much trouble with those dam diabolists. to deal with this you just need to add some dart traps to the bottom, when these mages take damage, they stop casting.
also, if you want to boost your spawn rate and get some keys, you can add some corrupt or crimson blocks, just don't forget to actuate them, the only con of this is that you may see some corrupt/crimson enemyes
Thanks for the replay but i found out my answer i think it was because the area io did it in had alot of caves surrounding it so when i destroyed it it made it a normal cavern layer instead of a dungeon i found this out after makeing a smaller one in the stair way near the top and it spawns alot of mobs
Still work in 1.4.0.5?
How long should the mob spawning platform be
Edit: also does killing Plantera increase spawn rates in the dungeon becuase I seem to not be getting as much as in the video but I haven’t killed Plantera yet so I’m wondering
I know this is late but more types of enemies will spawn in the dungeon after defeating plantera and if you don't get enough you can use battle potions and water candles
Its works Well, but Cave bats and spiders spawning There.. Its bad cause they arent going to the teleporters.. WHAT should i do?
What is that thing circling him?
I would Like to know also. Did you ever figure it out?
@@quickandeasy9916 Cursed sapling pet
Spent ages building this to just be killed by Diabolists everytime... How the hell are you supposed to survive when your being blown up constantly???
Its actually quite simple
I will try and improve on this design
Wish me luck
how to deal with dungeon spirts?
Size 168x47
168x94
Have you tried putting lava filled bubbles at the top of the trap corners where the torches with a thin lava puddle connecting them? Would that prevent the caster mobs from spawning up there?
The whole idea is that they do spawn so you can get their loot, or at least that's how I perceived it.
I suggest the filled bubble blocks as a potential way to insure that all the mobs spawn on the platform below, get teleported into the kill chamber, and not on top of the trap where they can deal damage and possibly kill me. I want to know if bubble blocks filled with lava can restrict available spawning locations
The secret level, Hello :)
I build this farm post plantera just for fun, it is working well, lots of mobs spawning. But i have problem with diabolists:they spawn on the spawning platform, shoot their prouectiles and get me killed, can you help me? Thanks
can't actuate the jungle bricks even though i placed them. Should I remove them til i beat plantera or keep them just as solid?
Kevin Kirsch you need to defeat plantera or itll think your tryna get into the temple pre plantera
(Sorry bit late ;P)
What is a (AFK) farm ? Like what's the difference from a normal farm ??
An AFK farm means you can farm while Away From Keyboard/Controller
Normal farms mean you Arent away from keyboard/controller
How to actuate lihzahrd bricks??? Mine doesn't work.......
I guess you can only activate lizahrd bricks after defeading plantera.
how does this farm handle Paladins, who are more than 3 blocks tall?
Tizona Amanthia, I think, thats just a graphics feature. The hitbox is 3 blocks tall.
is it only three? *ponders* I guess they just sorta clip through the cieling then, eh?
Yup, I have build the farm myself with a 3 block space and it works just fine!
Working on 1.14?
Yea. This is my last farm to build but I am not sure how I can do this without teleporters. I guess I will build it as a Volcano trap
could this work on mobile version?
Poggers for God
can some one tell me if the farm works in 1.4 ???
it does work, but you will have to make additions to deal with the diabolists as they will kill you if they are allowed to cast from the bottom platform
Doesn't seem to work for me? The Ragged Casters deal too much damage and their attack goes through walls.
Build it In a different background. It depends on the wall to spawn certain enemies. So if paladins are a trouble make it away from brick walls
What is the purpose of the crab statues ?
watch the video?
At my world a lot of bats are spawning, and they take up enemy "slots". what can I do against that?
Just place 250 dungeon blocks on screen and make sure you’re standing on naturally generated dungeon walls and they should all stop spawning
I was wondering if this is going to work on the paladins.
I made it exactly 46 blocks of space and the casters can just shoot me from the bottom
Is this for expert because I die in a minute with heart statues
Place spears on each side of you. U can even make a slime invincability machine and honey pool
hey, can i possibly get this map?
No ass hole
thx
No problem Cyberyisus, glad you liked it :D
Ty I appreciate it :)
"Next is the ehhh"
I see lots of videos that say "Oh, and I put lava here" - How do you just put lava somewhere? Is there a "Lavamaking Block" or something somewhere?
buckets, made from iron/lead
bruh you came that far in the game and dont know how to move liquids?
@@sametozyigit7123 I know how to drain them through a hole in the floor. Putting Lava on top of an above ground pyramid is something else. Plus, I've only played for about 1 day. how "Far" did my comment imply that i've come in the game? it takes about 10 minutes to just dig straight down til you start seeing lava.
@@RedwoodTheElf i was meaning "dungeon" by far not lava if you are watching this video i thought you should have defeated skeletron already and terraria wiki exist instead of asking question to youtube comment section you can just search it there or even in google
@@sametozyigit7123 I was looking for tips on how to set things up, not about the dungeon specifically. I haven't even located the entrance to the dungeon yet. You can use lava as a trap all by itself, thus my curiosity.
I've got full turtle armour, went down, and died. Horrifically
