He authorized weapons sales to Indonesia that were used in the East Timor genocide, and his administration knew it, and lied to Congress about it (claiming it was under control and underplayed the death toll). Don't deify him. He never called out his own party and towed the party line until the very end.

President Carter understood the egalitarianism of the American Dream as few politicians seem to. For reasons beyond his control,, Carter wasn't able to be the great president he had the potential to be, IMO - but that didn't stop him from becoming a great peacemaker on the world stage and setting a sterling example of integrity and statesmanship to inspire generations of young people. As a mom and grandma, it means so much to have leaders such as Jimmy Carter - and Ralph Nader! - to give them hope.

This is a text from my brother:
During the campaign season for the 2008 election, Ralph was coming to Boise to speak for his campaign for president. I was asked to drive him for the event. I used mom’s Durango and mom got to come along.
We picked him and his campaign manager up at the Boise airport and drove them to a Greek restaurant downtown, had dinner with him. I sat to his left and mom sat to my left. We had dinner and then I drove him to the event. After the speech I drove him to the airport. A friend of mine was the Boise campaign chair for Ralph.
Personally, I was flat on my back with a back injury and unable to get out of bed for a whole year. Glad I’m a veteran. The VA has finally fixed me up, but I’m still getting over the operation all these years later.

i've posted this 5 times without it remaining.... "the only answer is continued engagement... this is at the voter level, the protester level, the community improvement level... that is the only leverage that is left ....." i totally agree: the Democratic party: failed!!!! the Republican party since Eisenhower: more than failed!!!! supreme court: failed!!!! main stream media: failed!!! American folks got too complacent and relied on the Ralph Naders, the Martin Luther Kings, the Malcolm Xs, the Robert Kennedys, etc...... when they mostly got eliminated the complacency disease spread like a cancer or a plague of indifference..(the one glimmer of hope i see is the world wide grassroots support for the Palestinians) ...hopefully the upcoming deluge of disasters will kick Joe/Jane American in the butt before it's too late!!!

Twenty million less people voted in 2024.
It's ludicrous to blame the public.
They were to choose between two of the worst candidates on the planet that were vomited up by the two American political parties.
Personally, I voted for Jill Stein. And, to be honest, if everyone who either didn't vote or held their nose and voted for Trump or Harris because they didn't want to "waste" their vote, voted for Stein. Stein would have won. Irony of ironies.
Anyway, I can't, in any way, blame anyone for NOT voting for Harris or Trump

it's a me first, individualistic culture, and one that's lost a late 20th century narrative of hope and progress and environment and independence based on collective action. it's become a dystopian country of hate and selfishness and venting vitriol against anyone, worldwide standing in 'our' way. as timothy snyder describes, one lost in the politics of eternity; ever fighting an angry war against anyone with no purpose or defined end, but only to release aggression and gobble up more of whatever it is desiring and scapegoating in that moment. diary of a planet without purpose at our historical moment.

None of them do, unless it’s a form letter.
The rules of the House & Senate have been written to allow only lobbyists to get responses.
