I’m Danish and our Prime Minister has come out saying she doesn’t recognise what’s being reported about this phone call. And from what was reported here in Denmark on the content, she made it clear that Greenland was not for sale and that independence is a decision for the Greenlandic people. But they then went on to talk about the economic growth and jobs that Danish companies bring to US, and they talked about strengthening traderelations between US and EU. After that they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East and China. They talked for 45 min, and I doubt that would have happened if they we fighting in the beginning of the call. Remember, the first time she said Greenland is not for sale, Trump cancelled an statevisit already logistically being prepared. He would had hung up on her immediately, if these reports were true.
As a Danish veteran and half Greenlander I feel betrayed by our US Allies. We fought and bled for you in Iraq and Afghanistan. And this is how you treat us? By threatening with military forces and economic sanctions? I thought we were friends. I thought we were allies. Trump says you need Greenland for security and economics, but that is not true. You already have a base there and you can have more if you ask. Just ask. The same thing goes for rare earth minerals. Greenland, while not for sale, is open for business. Just invest. The relationship between Greenland and Denmark is complicated. The greenlanders want independence. However, they certainly do not want to be a part of the US either. Has American become a country that conquer small neighbors, even friendly allies?
Yeah that sounds like a brilliant plan. You do realize it was the United States that kept Greenland from falling into the hands of the Nazis during WWII? And liberated Denmark from Nazis with victory in Europe in 1945?
we can assume the rest of the NATO leaders are in crisis mode right now. If USA should attack Greenland, then Denmark can call on military support by the NATO allies via article 5. Then what? NATO has to kick out USA? US troops in European bases are suddenly enemy combattants? What happens with all the US nuclear weapons stored on European soil? We haven't even begun to think about how Putin responds to this opportunity. Regardless of who folds, how can we ever trust USA again? This is such a major catastrophe in the making.

let's not be ridiculous. tariffs are imposed on products where there exists other producers, especially within the country imposing these tarrifs, so the effect is that the country targeted cannot sell its stuff as well, and consumers will go elsewhere. it is a very efficient and decent tool, that should be used strategically. all this nonsense that tariffs are insane and don't work are really silly.
@@alainprostbisUnder WTO rules yariffs cannot be tariffed based on where the goods come from, but on what goods ARE. In reality tariffs on Denmark from the US would be hurting individual small businesses in Denmark, but Denmark as such would not need to worry, the trade surplus is massive. As for Trump’s motivation I don’t think it’s about security or resources - he can have that easily under the present arrangement.
