You guys are great. I found you by accident when doing Marco retirement research. I’m winding down a physical/adrenaline fueled career that I was able to eat and drink whatever I wanted but just turned 50 and got ear full from the doctor on some lab results. Being in a guys guy career bubble for so long as long a you performed and looked ok none of us thought it would catch up to us. I wish I had you guys as advising family members 10 years ago.

Yes our health does catch up with us. I wish I had us 10 years ago as well. We learned the hard way but making as many changes as we can.

Best reasons I've heard, to get rid of sugar. It's so addictive & hard to get off of. You've inspired me to try harder.

Fun fact- I tell my ( dental ) patients this all day long….
Look at the label on the back of your beverages or food item. It lists GRAMS which most of us cannot relate to. 4 GRAMS= 1 TEASPOON.
One 12 ounce CAN of Cola has 39 Grams of sugar! That translates to almost 10 teaspoons of sugar!! Orange sodas and I believe ginger ale types have almost 12 teaspoons of sugar in 1 can!!!
A 12 ounce bottle of something like Iced Tea will give you the amount for only 8 oz so you need to multiply to get the total amount of sugar in the bottle!

Great video and info!!! 👍I used to drink 4 or more cans of diet soda at work - they were free so why not! Weened myself of them mainly because the price on it is so high now 😳 I switched to water and lightly flavored seltzer. Feel so much better now!

The carrots do caramelize but that’s just the sugar coming out of the carrot because of the cooking. It’s not like sugar gets “made” new by cooking carrots. Anyway, loved your video - thank you!

This is an excellent video! I started doing low-carb 4 or 5 years ago. I cut out sugar. I started baking with almond flour and or coconut flour. I have used erythritol, monk fruit, allulose, and stevia. I don't use xylitol because I have a dog and I just don't want that in my house. I use stevia the most. I get the liquid organic kind. Some of the powders can be bitter. I started to do this because I was overweight, prediabetic, and not very healthy. I have lost 45 lbs and feel better. And all of my numbers came down. I looked into diabetes and I was shocked to find out that it can break down your internal organs!! There is one sweetener you mentioned that I have never heard of. It is that liquid one you mentioned near the end. But you really have to read the labels. So many things are marked as "keto-friendly" but have artificial sweeteners in them. Also, seed oils are bad for you. You need to stick to avocado, olive oil, natural butter, lard, and coconut oil. I could go on and on, but I digress. Changing your diet for healthier options really does make you feel better.

I Had to drop sugar, grains, industrial seed oils because my IBS worsened. And was heading for diabetes. It was Hard. As bad as sugar is, substitutes cause even more gut damage.

Thank you for talking about this important and complex topic. It is useful to think beyond sugar to all high-glycemic foods like flour and white rice. It is also key to understand the role that fat plays in insulin resistance. I love that you mentioned nutrient density of food in connection with this subject. Two good books on these topics: How Not to Die by Michael Greger and Eat for Life by Joel Fuhrman.

Nice video you two. The dialog about sugar is good to hear. As you continue your journey into modern medicine practices you may want to start exploring Cholesterol. High Cholesterol is not a disease and Statins are not your friend. 😊

How about agave, honey, maple syrup and molasses and stay closer to natural non-processed sugars: white, brown, corn syrup?

If you have a healthy diet with only good quality fresh food the calories and nutrients take care of themselves.
For what it's worth my advice is:
Plan your meals a week, say, in advance and only buy what you are going to eat.
Only buy single ingredient foods, predominantly fresh and carefully chosen.
Cultivate an interest in cooking and food so you know and appreciate good quality.
Don't eat between meals and always sit down to eat or drink. Eating should be an occasion, something you enjoy and discuss.
Only eat in restaurants that cook from scratch and take pride in their offerings.
