I just discovered the plant I rescued from a dumpster is a Lady Palm, almost 5 ft tall! I look forward to watching her grow, thank you for the information!

Whelp. I'm back! I picked up another Lady Palm. This time from a local flower shop, who ordered it for me. She arrived in pretty good shape. I took her home. She has thrived, here and there a little brown tip or two. And she has been growing new shoots from the top last summer. The older lower fronds turned and browned, which I trimmed off as needed. She arrived I a small pot. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed she was sending off a new frond from the middle. The new growth was green at first, but then quickly, before even opening, began to yellow and turn almost white. I had been attentive to soil dryness and watering per your instructions. Then i looked at the grow pot. She needed repotting. I ordered a pot with great drainage. Repotted her in Fox Farm soil and a bit of horticultural sand and perlite for better drainage. Room humidity had dipped below 40%. I added humidifier. It got to 52%. I think the sudden change in humidity messed with the plant. Though she has 3 new shoots growing that look fine....the tips of more than 50% of other fronds are looking crinkly, now, and though still green, some have a bit of a halo border where the crinkly bit meets the healthy leaf. A couple of the older leaves have small cracks that run down the length of the leaves. I'm hoping she recovers. Perhaps repottong stress, combined with the sudden change in humidity?

Hi there, it's very important to check the progress of your central spear (terminal bud); which you did.. awesome! And knowing that new growth is green is a very good sign, the crinkly part might be from earlier stress you palm was under and that part of the frond is showing the stress it was under. If you continue to see new healthy green fronds growing out from the top, she is going to be ok. Hope this helps! 😀🪴
Michael, I went to HomeDepot Sunday. I came across a beautiful Ponytail Palm. It was so adorable. So I fixed my gaze on it and said "oh she's sooooo pretty!" and then I realize I was "doing a Michael".......sooooooo pretty!!!

I had a beautiful little Lady Palm. There were a total of three shoots in the pot when I bought it online. It had been packaged in a way that kept it nice, undamaged and very healthy. About 2 months later, the leaves of the smallest plant in the pot began looking old, dark and furled in on themselves until they looked like dark spikes. "Must be the old leaves," i thought. I trimmed them off as directed. A week later, same stem. More leaves..dark and furled. Trimmed them again. The other 2 stems in the pot remained healthy, robust and green. Eventually, the small stem was down to 3 leaves. That was it. And they were dark and furled. I decided to separate it from the other 2 stems/plants in the pot. So I repotted.m, hoping maybe the little poirlybplant could somehow be revived. I noted that all of the roots of all 3 plants appeared very healthy, white, firm. Nowhere on any of thebplants did i see signs of infestation. The 2 healthy plants showed no signs of browning or yellowing, etc. Shortly after repotting...the two heakthy plants (which i kept potted together) began to look the same as the little poorly-looking plant. I checked the soil. Not damp. I watered as directed. I waited. I worried. It has been over 1 month, now, and nothing has happened. No shoots. Nothing is green anymore. I have decided to toss all 3 out before they invite some sort of infestation. My question is this: they were all planted in clay pots. Is clay/terracotta an appropriate pot for lady palm? Could that have been the problem? I really would like to take another stab at it and purchase one more Lady Palm. However, I hate to go through that expense, again, snd fail. Oddly, all of thebplants people say are hardy, i tend to kill. All the more doffocult plants..i somehow keep alive..as ling as they arent a heavily flowering species.
Oh! And the Lady Palm, after repotting, was set in a western-facing window with a sheer curtain. And, I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, bit managed to keep my small apartment within the 60-85°F range with moisture level of 50-64% What i loved about the Lady Palm, in addition to its beauty, is that my 7yo cat had ZERO interest in it...unlike the interest it showed in my Swedish Ivy and spider plants

Hi there, sorry to hear about your lady palm. Purchasing on line can sometimes be a gamble. Plants (palms in this case) that are sold online are put in a period of darkness that can set them back and sometimes they shock out, and shock sometimes manifests itself months later. It is preferred to pick up your plant at a local nursery if possible, in lieu of mail. Is it possible for you to try buying a lady palm locally? 😀🪴

I will definitely call my smalltown Greenhouse/Floral Shop tomorrow and see if she can find one for me through her distributor. I really do love the shape of Lady Palms, so I hope she can order one for me. If not, I can probably call to a larger town/city shop and see what they can do. Thank you! Now, I am on a mission! I am really bad with figuring out potting mixes. My Monstera Delisiosa is not doing well, neither is my bird of paradise. I am so worried because it was doing so well. That is why I decided to invest in the Monstera Albo, I thought I could take good care of it. Now my Monstera looks sad and I'm afraid that when my Albo gets here I won't know how to make it happy :( In the meantime my baby Begonia Maculata is growing and doing well. She is still a baby but she is doing fine. I am so proud of her!

Hi Michael! Why would the tips of my lady palm fronds all turn brown?
OMG, Christine! Hi! It's probably too dry. Make sure to water thoroughly. You want to make sure water gets all the way down through the pot. Another possibility is that she may need a bit more humidity; so adding a pebble tray will also help. 😀 🪴
i want one for inside the house on the south window. just dont know light requirements. i was thinking bamboo ugh cant make up my mind.
I haven't grown bamboo indoors so I don't know how to guide you there. And I love the lady palm, so I would suggest her.. or, can you try both? Do you have enough space? the bamboo would contrast well to the fan shaped leaves of Lady palm. 😀🪴
What size pot for a 36" Lady Palm? How to re pot it?
36" in height or is that the diameter of rootball? If so, you will need a 4' pot. Hope this helps. 😀 🪴
I have a lady palm that has developed black/brown spots closest to the stem. What could be wrong?

That’s what I’m worried about. She’s not near any vents and sits on a cubby organizer about 3-4ft from the ground in my living room. We just started getting nice weather in IL so she’s been going outside the last 2 weeks during the day. She may have gotten too much sun, but I’m not sure what sunburn would look like for her.
I think my lady finger palm is growing shoots with seeds on them. How do I harvest these? When is the best time to remove these?
Hi there! When the seeds turn a creamy yellow or light orange color, they are ready. Plant in seed starting medium and cover with clear plastic bag and keep at temps around 75-85 degrees F. Warmth help's germinate, but do not put in direct sunlight! Place where they will get bright light. It will take about a month to germinate. Hope this helps~!😀🪴

Shade?! Oh nooooo! I just bought a $150 lady palm from my local nursery (zone 9A), and she said to put it in full sun, which I did.
Ohhh boy. How is she doing in the sun ? Are her fronds still green or are they starting to fade or turn light brown? Lady palms can handle only limited sun, she may start to burn out there, is there another location you can put her ? 😀🌳
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN she looks ok now because she’s not getting the intensity of the summer sun. It’s only been a couple weeks since planting though.
