Nicely fettled, now if you can corrugate that rubber sheet to make a concertina type of way guard , I’ll be suitably impressed

Great job. Look forward to se the tophats on the rest off the lead screw. Maybe it is not a must, but I have ordered delrin for both side

Hi. Not sure if relevant, but a few mods can make some Chinese vari speed dc motor lathes much more robust. Make sure that there is a heat sink on the control electronics - it was missing on my 290 model. Add two over-run bathroom extractor fans to remove heat from both the electronics enclosure and around the motor itself - motor fan is ineffective when running at slow speed. Also check the wiring. My non-WARCO model had the plug fuse and mains swithching on the neutral lead. Not good. BobUK.

I though about the exact same idea a while ago, but couldn’t decide on a suitable material. Your choice to use delrin seems to work fine. Cheers

Nicely done... just remember to pull the cover back regularly to clean any debris that does manage to get to the lead screw (I know that I'd forget to check it like I should).
Does the compound feed handle interfere with the cross slide handle when the compound is set parallel (or nearly so) with the cross slide on your lathe? It did on my 12" bench lathe and I finally had to make a proper set of handles to replace the ones that were of the same solid style as yours.

Nice work in a fantastic project. Would it be thinkable to remove the leadscrew bearing to the right, like You did, and then remove the down hanging (saddle?) block of the carriage and push the telescop onto the leadscrew? My mini lathe would do a lot beter having the leadscrew protected from chips and swarf but being a newbie, dismounting the leadscrew to the left feels unsafe, uncertain.

A very interesting project and well thought out, personally I think an awful lot of work involved for what I would do with an old paintbrush to clear the swarf and a couple of squirts of oil from the oil can.😉

Ade if you use a collet chuck will you be able to get the carriage & tool close enough to the chuck with the lead screw cover bottoming out & getting the carriage close enough to the a collet chuck.

Ade what is the alloy bracket on the carriage where the travelling steady goes?

G’day Ade I enjoyed watching you make that and it’s turned out great. I’m thinking of doing the same for mine and a lot of the other modification s that you have made to your lathe. The larger handles on the hand wheels would be great for me as I have rheumatoid arthritis and any help such as the thicker handles you made are of a real benefit thank you Ade kind regards John.
