6:20 In the Beast Wars series, prehistoric Earth had an overabundance of energon that caused a radiation that would overload a transformer's body, which is why the Maximals and Predacons adopted the animal forms in order to shield themselves while outdoors :)
Beast Wars is kinda like Babylon 5 - it may look dated visually, but the writing, character development, and long term story arc are top level Also, my favorite incarnation of Ravage in any TF continuity. "Decepticons forever!!!"
Brian Tyree Henry really out did himself with his incredible performance and his deep understanding of Megatron since always wanted to play the villains. Every villain is a hero of his and her own Story in Transformers One. A story that starts with a life as an obedient rule-following model citizen turns into an idealistic leader. And later on, he becomes an authoritarian figure to what will become the Decepticons. D-16 is not only a product of Cybertron’s corrupted system and takes on Sentinel Prime’s oppression though violent means all the social injustices he had experiences forged his transcendence into Megatron and building up to a rivalry with Orion turned Optimus Prime (due to wanting the same goal of a unified Cybertron but have different viewpoints). Even if Orion is willingly to sacrifice himself for restoring the sake of his brother’s morality by being taken by the blast. But their friendship is doomed ever since they discovered that shocking realization their leader Sentinel Prime had sold out Cybertron to the Quintessons after betraying his fellow Prime brothers and sisters, and ruled his planet through oppression. D-16 has put too much faith in the system he has held on to until his worldview was shattered that boils up to anger and a personal vengeance after being suffered of the social injustices while Orion still kept his optimism by exposing the truth of Sentinel's corruption. This what makes D-16 a much more of a compelling hero-turned-villain and tragic character in Transformers history. And the rift between two brothers. Both D-16 and Orion really wanted a unified Cybertron but each have different ways to bringing it into fruition.
Let's not forget that he learns all of this in the span of like a day and a half with no time to really process what he learned and on top of having starscream hammer down the point of one strong bot over another then to be branded with his heros sigil by the man you just recently learned decapitated him and took his cog as a trophy like he's the predator defileing his heros corpse, its no wonder Megatron was born especially with all the right pieces laid out in
Another cool thing is all the little cameos. For example, when Orion is giving his speech to the miners, a lot of the original Autobots were surrounding him (Jazz, Hound, Arcee, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, Brawn etc.)
I'm absolutely certain that the orange and purple bot who climbs up on the ladder in that scene is Lancer - almost nobody seems to care about Lancer but she's here all the same!
*I was so on the fence about Chris Hemsworth playing Orion Pax/Optimus Prime, but he surprised the scrap outta me. Not only by masking his natural Australian accent, but by how well he conveyed Orion's/Optimus's emotions. That makes two legendary relics that he was worthy of in pop culture: Mjolnir (Marvel) and The Matrix Of Leadership (Transformers)*
@redalert923 That's such a good gesture from Peter. And Chris's voice for Optimus was topnotch, since this is meant to be his origin story and he's not yet the experienced warrior we know and love.
The Decepticons seem to always pull out numerous forces from out of nowhere although I do believe the Primes ordered the creation of the Cybertronian High Guard to have as many troops as possible against the Quintessons. This is why the Autobots would eventually lose the war on Cybertron because the Decepticon forces, while not always so competent, are overwhelming in numbers.
I love this movie so much. One small note, Sparks and Transformation Cogs are two different things. Sparks are essentially their soul, they are dead when it's extinguished. T-Cogs they can live without but as you saw, they can't transform unless they have one. Sentinel's spark was extinguished when he was ripped in half, which is why he lost his colour before Megatron ripped out the T-Cog. I really enjoyed your reaction. I wish it did better at the box office, but the first trailer turned everyone away because it made it look like a generic kids movie. The best we can do now is buy it physically or digitally and tell everyone we can about it if we want a sequel. I thought that this was such an excellent retelling of their origin and a perfect starting point for someone new to the franchise
To be clear, Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime are not the same character. Think of Primal as someone named after a great hero of the past. Like if you knew a dude named Arthur, but understood that he wasn’t King Arthur.
There’s even a similiar situation in the 2015 TF RID cartoon. They have a guy called “Grimlock”, who turns into a T-Rex, but he’s actually just another character named after the legendary Dinobot leader. Oh, and since Primal is from Beast Wars, “Megatron” is also just named after the original Megatron.
@@MiguelGaray-mm7ce If I recall correctly, Beast Wars Megatron named himself after Megatron as an example of ideological hero worship... which has since retroactively become something Megatron himself did, in reference to Megatronus Prime... so it's almost a legacy title now.
1999- Lawrence Fishburne introduces 'the one' to the mysteries of the Matrix. 2024- Lawrence Fishburne introduces 'the one' to the mysteries of the Matrix.
I love how this movie combines Optimus origin from the G1 cartoon and Megatron's origin from the comics. Orion Pax was a manual laborer who was mortally wounded by Megatron before being rebuilt into Optimus Prime and granted the Matrix. D-16 was a miner who was disillusioned by the oppressive system built on effectively slave labor, and became a revolutionary to change the system via violence.
I mean they had several backstories since the best friends turned enemies lore of theirs was introduced. What usually happens is that Cybetron was a corrupt, dystopian place, Orion wanted to fix it with peacful means, Megatron wanted to burn down their civilization to build it anew. (IDW, Aligned, Earthspark etc) Btw Megatron's D-16 low class miner bot origin was borrowed from the IDW comics just like the class system. Originally he was called D-16 because he was such a low class (miner) that they didn't even had names (they were called by their serial numbers), and basically were slaves, who weren't even allowed to leave the mines.
I've never seen a new Transformer fan get so immersed in the lore so quickly. I hate the Bay flicks too, Transformers One is honestly the best Transformers movie, I love the 86 movie, it's a classic and one of the best animated 80's films ever but I think TF1 kind of elevates the franchise in these times we live in after the damage the Bay movies put on the Transformers image, at least from story telling perspectives. Everyone grew to think Transformers stories had to be dumb which is insane, Beast Wars to this day still is the best written Transformers tv series imo and plenty of the comics over the decades have been excellent.
🤞🏾🤞🏾 for a sequel kinda tripping right now.. But Transformers One is my top 3 Transformers movie also my with Bumblebee & Rise of the Beasts (top 4 if ya throw the ‘86 Movie). Great reaction by the way 🔥
Michael Bay did such a huge disservice to the franchise. TF has so many cool stories, lore elements and Bay threw all of it out of the window. Yeah, Orion Pax was Optimus' real name since the 80's series. (fun fact Orion means hunter, Pax means peace in Latin) The discrimination of the 'no cog thing' comes from several different TF media. In the 80's cartoon the Qunitessons ruled over cybetron, and took the cogs of a ton of bots, trying to keep them weak, and unable to fight back against their opressors. The Quintessons essentially treated Transformers as slaves, and the whole of Cybetron as a production facility. In later continuities Cybetron was a dystopia with a very strict caste/class system, where certain bots were discriminated against based on their altmodes. These bots were essesntially kept in opression, and slaves unable to leave their casts. (this is where Megatron's low class, D-16 miner bot origins comes from; he was called D-16 because robots in his caste,, the lowest one, had basically almost nothing, not even proper names, they were called by their serial numbers. This story element came from the IDW comics, but other continuities build it into their canon, like Aligned, or Earthspark)
That's so true! Man could've had his writers, literally research the comics and storyline of G1. Give the characters their well-known personalities, and abilities.
@@trashboat5388 Yeah, but the 13 Primes Bay put on screen had litearlly nothing to do with the 13 Primes we see in the ALigned continuity besides the number. @@narlord8613 I'm more than fine with them using other lore elements for other continuities (IDW, Aligned, since they too made some pretty great contributions to the TF lore) Megatron was made into the sympatehtic character we see in TF One in the IDW comics. (a formers low/class miner/slave/turned gladiator/revolutionist rising up against Cybetron's opressive caste system, who was ultimately seduced by his lust for power, and revenge, becoming a tyrant himslf) I will chose this origin of Megatron over the G1 counterpart every time. Sentinel being a puppet ruler was also introduced in the Aligned continuity, just like the lore of the 13 Primes as we know them today.
