    I planted garlic and scallions near my squash and zucchini last year and it really helped keep the squash bugs away.

    This is where I get overwhelmed because I do not have garden beds, So when it comes to planning it looks great on paper, but gets chaotic when Spring is here. Everything I forgot that I had planted pops up or skips a season, this is how I have lost so many plants. The sunniest area of my hillside yard is full of grass and weeds(beneficial), deers, rabbits, birds eat most of my plants. I have imprisoned my smaller garden spaces to keep the critters out. Happy gardening, I love your space.

    Great video and awesome planning. I'm taking notes and will follow suit. I never thought to visually plan before planting time until now. Great thought process😊 the beauty is this is, if something doesn't go as planned you can update your notes with the information instead of trying to remember someone.

    I spent many hours myself planning where I could put things since I have an inground garden, and I had to make some changes since what I had planned to plant beside each other were not considered good companion plants. I did winter sowing this year, but I am not exactly sure when I will be able to put those plants in the ground, but I guess I'll know next month. 🤷🏻‍♀️
    I am just as excited as you Asia! Let's get growing😁

    The Exploring Alternatives video that features you and your garden showed up on my TH-cam feed yesterday, and I am SO glad I found your channel! You are such an inspiration!! I live in Richmond, VA (zone 7B) in a small rental house with a decent-sized back yard where I try to grow what I can (given some limitations, like too much shade and high levels of lead in the soil). As a renter, my thinking has always been that I shouldn't invest too much time or money (especially money!) in this garden, so I've created raised beds with what I can find (bricks buried in the yard, materials that people discard in the alley...I made a couple of small beds during early COVID days out of some old kitchen cabinets that I found in someone's construction trash), and I mostly grown things from seed or find plants for free. This year, though, I'm inspired to grow as much as I can-still being frugal of course, but not being as concerned about/hung up on the fact that this rental situation is only temporary...YOLO! Thank you, Asia, for sharing your garden journey with us! I'll be binge-watching in my free time!!! P.s. I just ordered Roselle hibiscus seeds because I’ve never grown that plant before and they look beautiful (and sound very useful)

    Thank you for sharing. I have all my different areas drawn out on dollar tree graph paper. We've already changed some of our plans....it's inevitable to change plans each year so, I start drawing when garden season ends. You reminded me that I need to order more Kelp Granules and Alfalfa Pellets from Azure Standard. I really like your flower plans. I've been struggling to fit all of my flowers into my spaces. I like the idea of growing bush beans within the flower bed. We grow pole beans every even year-2 cattle panels worth from both sides of the "bean tunnel." However, I am looking to grow other types of beans now--most are bush type. I am going to try planting bush beans with flowers following your lead. I love new adventures. May we all have many garden successes, Amen.

    Hey Asia, I have a few questions as some of the trap flowers I’ll be growing this year are my first time. I’ve been debating on whether I want to plant my nasturtium and borage in ground due to not wanting them to self sow too much and take over my planting area! Do you think it would still work if I grew them in pots and kind of set them around my garden ? Also if you want your zinnias to grow wider versus taller I’ve found pinching them makes them a big beautiful bush off flowers opposed to them being very tall and needing stakes (in case you’d like to use them as a cover flower as well) ! & Dahlia tubers are one of the easiest ways for you to grow dahlias. My dahlias did very well and produced some of the most beautiful flowers (after the heat died back). I’ve moved them this year in hopes that this area will be cooler so that I can enjoy them earlier this season. 😊

    • @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi 👋🏾! Yes, I think it will work. I’m not sure will completely miss the self sowing part because the seeds may still drop on the soil. Ok thank you! I’ll give that a try this year. Nice, I think I’m going to grab a few varieties from Lowe’s and give it a try! Thanks for the comment!
