    Why is it so fun to knock people down?

    I never really understood the hate for his drumming. What’s next? People disliking Nickelback?

      There’s several layers to this comment. 😂

    Can we talk about the still you left on-screen, of the old Dane from ~19:09 onward? Is he channeling the undead or perhaps "ghoul" creatures from the Fallout universe? Anywho, he do, what he need to do - the internet, will be the internet - and we're all still paying taxes.

      😂 I grabbed that screenshot by accident and it seemed appropriate. He really is having a lot of fun on the kit these days. Not sure any other drummer stands up as much as he does. The world after Napster is a bit of a sonic wasteland. Lars is indeed an old ghoul, seeking Em thrash riffs and wah solos for caps

    Lars was right about Naptster .

      Yep. The “album” is dead. Lots of great touring acts though

    Those who have no idea about music, metal and rhythm can be recognized immediately by the fact that they think Lars is a bad drummer. 😉

    I'd like to believe most of the people saying it all for humour, I don't think anyone really thinks Lars is bad or replaceable. Also there's certain feeling people like and that's quite often impossible to replace. Stage presence, the tones, the musical contribution, not the first time a band member of a band passes away, but people never stopped talking about Cliff. He was a great bass player, but I believe Rob's technicality is next level. And Rob surely got a cool stage presence, but he doesn't have Jason's voice and interaction with crowd. Metallica prove this over and over, your stage presence must be solid. That's why mangini is out and portnoy is back to DT. Mangini can play every dt song with his one hand while drinking a beer with the other. But that's not cutting it.

      Sadly some people take it very seriously. My original reel on instagram has about 182 comments, lots of negativity.
      I agree 💯it’s not all technical ability. Stage presence is arguably just as important. People want a show after all. Thanks for stopping by

    I don't think he's a BAD drummer, per se. I think what frustrates me the most is that he just seems to phone it in. He leaves all kinds of fun, intricate parts out of many of their songs when playing live, and in the same breath puts shitty, somewhat incoherent fills in places there weren't fills originally. As a 35+ year fan of the band, it really makes it seem like he just doesn't really care. Go look at a video of them playing Disposable Heroes back in like 86, and then any recent playthrough of it. The difference is stark.

  • @Jonathangleich

    Its Thrash Metal, definitely not a old man's game. He was awesome in 89( probably his peak)

    • @colinlamb
      @colinlamb  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Definitely not bad for a 60 year old. I’m 40 and I can’t do half the things I could at 35. Look how some athletes decline in just one year. I think a lot of the recent live videos are great and he’s definitely having fun.

  • @Addict2FX

    There are videos put out there of all bands sounding bad. When you see these youtube shorts people post, its a snap shot of time. Metallica tour relentlessly, and if people bother to look, you'll find videos of Lars nailing it. He's the perfect drummer..for Metallica..the multi-million dollar band he helped form. Metal Up Your Ass!!!

      💯. I’ve watched a bunch of the current tour live vids. He sounds fine and he’s having fun. He’s a weird man but that’s what it takes

    I don't think they are getting worse especially not compared to around 2008 like you showed. I also don't think that they are getting worse since 89 really but I will say that I think that their approach have changed since then, from trying to go as fast as they can all the time (They have talked about how Lars would often raise the tempo troughout the songs) to an approach of playing at a more steady rhythm with Lars maybe nowadays playuing to a click in his ears.

    His tempos are pretty inconsistent. That much is undebatable. It's a subtlety that prevents any good drummer from being great and it seems to get worse over time. Doesn't make me "hate" him.

  • @eddiewinehosen6665
    @eddiewinehosen6665 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    No one is saying he's bad. He's just average at best, not even close to the top drummers either currently or historically! One of the things even his own band members have criticized him for is that he no longer puts in the work to practice and keep up!

    • @colinlamb
      @colinlamb  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Can you find some examples of the criticisms with sources? Many people are saying he’s bad/crap and worse. I’m not saying he’s great either.

  • @DJW_

    The Lars is bad hate is mostly because its the done thing to rip on him, largely from people that have heard other idiots say it and cant think for themselves. Im sure Lars sees the " you suck " comments and cries himself to sleep at night with his $400 million lol.
    Seen Metallica live 14 times since 2009, hoping to see them another 14.
    Lars is the man.

    I think Lars probably has a bunch of qualities that contributed to the success of the band over the years. But his drumming just isn’t one of them.. his parts are sloppy and uninteresting.. which isn’t to say they are bad! Clearly they worked for millions of people out there. For me personally, even though I do like some of Metallicas songs, as a drummer, I find his drumming to be fairly uninspiring to the point that I can only conclude that his drumming could indeed be replaced. This isn’t to say that he himself is, since like I mentioned.. he probably contributed more than just drum parts to the band.

      I look back on the earlier Metallica and the production in general is kinda basic. But the songs are great and they’re anthems. It’s helpful to not judge the past with the present. A lot of newer metal bands just sound like midi tracks to me. Metallica were brilliant early on. I’ve really enjoyed watching the new videos. To me they are AC/DC with more notes. If I was into technical drumming I would listen to rush which I do.

    I know it was decades ago now, but dude really painted himself in a negative light with the Napster and SKOM debacles and his drumming became a target for criticism as collateral damage.
    To be honest, it's not entirely unwarranted. He's obviously talented, but he's infuriatingly lazy.

    • @colinlamb
      @colinlamb  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      The Napster stuff was painful but I don’t think time has proved him wrong. The medium of the album has withered. Some great bands can’t even afford to tour. He was the annoying harbinger of doom.

    I don't like lars.
    He seems at peak recently; like better than ever.
    I'm not a drummer, so my opinion is not completely objective, but besides some sloppiness in some transitions he's being great.
    As much as i love hammet he's just slacking off tho.

    In the mid-80s + 90s, Lars was great in terms of energy. There are even some really compositions and, above all, a great feeling.
    But let's be honest for 5 minutes, he's not at his best as a drummer. Even less so today. Especially 5-10 years ago, when he was... so bad!
    When you aspire to be one of metal's greatest bands, it's your duty to criticize suckiness.

    • @colinlamb

  • @boxonothing4087

    Lars isn't bad, he's generally mediocre because he doesn't put up much effort.
    When he puts work in it, he's adequate.
    Anyway, brown nosing isn't the proper reaction to excessive vitriol either.
    His contributions to songwriting are more valuable than his drumming skills

    • @colinlamb
      @colinlamb  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Brown nosing? I mention him “not being technically great” and his personality being “tiring”. And I also say tickets are too expensive to see Metallica. They’re not my favourite band and he’s decent at best. Just trying to be a bit more balanced .
