  • John Floyd from Park Heights was convinced he needed extra auto protection after seeing a CarShield TV commercial. "I'm on a fixed income because of spinal disabilities in my back, and when I saw it on TV, I knew if I had a transmission failure, I wouldn't have the money to pay for that," said Floyd. He bought the extended service protection plan for nearly $3,000, and a few months later, he had transmission issues. Read more: www.wmar2news....

    Carshield is a total rip off. I paid for two years when I needed help from them for a covered part they found a loophole. Do you know if your engine blows up and it’s your head gasket they Won’t cover it. Even though they tell you they’ll cover your engine. Same thing with the transmission. They’ll find some little thing that you didn’t do or apart it isn’t covered and it won’t cover the whole job. You end up paying the full shot. Carshield is crap.

    • @Theultrazombiekiller
      @Theultrazombiekiller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      kelamo I don’t think they are a scam like they are made out to be. They are a legally binding contract to the company that sells them. Most people who buy one don’t use it or don’t read the contract to see what they cover and think that it covers anything and everything, and then get mad when they try to make a claim on a not covered part. If you do your research on them, but one from a reputable company, and read your contract so you know exactly what it covers and the exclusions on those covered parts, like lack of maintenance, you will be good and educated on your purchase. Don’t buy one if the car is still under manufacturers warranty, then it’s basically worthless.

    • @only1true540
      @only1true540 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gameswithajump look I have had these warranties and they are like I said a scam 100% I would never get one no warranty is better than a factory aftermarket warranty is trash

    • @Theultrazombiekiller
      @Theultrazombiekiller 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@only1true540 I get that, a lot of people are scammed into them. When I bought my car it was out of factory warranty, had 86,000 miles on, and I bought a warranty from my credit union and 4 months later my transmission went out. Then 2 months after that my radiator went out, and then 6 months after that my wheel bearing and bushings had to be replaced. My warranty covered every one of those repairs minus my $50 deductible, and paid for my rental car when my car was in the shop. So in my circumstance, it worked. If you buy from reputable companies, buy from a local credit union, read your entire contract, and have a car that no longer had factory warranty, it might also work for you.

Dealer called today to say repairs were denied bc the inspector believed the radiator and condenser was leaking bc of physical damage. I have not been in an accident. I have not run over anything. There is no physical damage to the hood or body panels. Could it be just a used car being a used car and parts failing? I am so hurt. Even the repair shop said it's BS and they do this all the time. It's criminal.

  • @davidjohnson8475
    @davidjohnson8475 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    You shouldn't buy any service contracts, extended warranties, and don't trust a BBB rating. Here's an example of one (the last one I'll ever purchase) that will explain why I feel that way. I shared this on Quora.
    I bought a used 2012 Camaro SS in 2014 with 5300 miles on it. Against my better judgment I purchased an extended warranty. I have found that extended warranties are generally only as good as the dealer you buy it at, meaning how honest is the dealer.
    Well 6 months after making my purchase the brake warning light came on, so I took it to the dealer to have them check it out. After all it's under warranty.
    I dropped it off and went and had breakfast, then came back. When I walked in I asked the service writer what they had found. The first thing out of his mouth was, "these aren't the original brakes". I said they are the brakes that were on the car when I bought it. Then I asked why it mattered? He told me since they weren't the original brakes they aren't covered by the warranty. Again I told him they are the brakes that were on the car when I bought the warranty and car. And then I said no where in the warranty, and at no time did anyone say the brakes aren't covered by the warranty. To make a long story shorter we finally ended up agreeing to $37 instead of $67 for them to tighten down a nut on the back of the caliper and them adding some brake fluid.
    Well after this I went home and checked my warranty to see if I could cancel it, which I did and got 90% of what I had paid for it back.
    But there's more to this story. I took my car to a shop that specializes in brakes and asked them if there was any way the could tell if these brakes were original or not, and they said yes. So they put it up on the rack and removed all 4 tires and inspected the brakes. They came in and told me that they were the original brakes from the factory, the person that had owned the car before me had just painted the calipers red to dress them up. They took me out and showed me that if you looked close you could see the Brembo and Chevy emblem through the paint.
    This is why I will never purchase another extended warranty again. And if you're smart you won't either. I'm willing to bet my car that the negative stories about warranties far out number the positive ones. Mainly because there are "NO" honest dealers out there. Otherwise why would this dealer lie to me about my brakes when they could have turned it over to the warranty company to pay for it? I'll tell you why because they have no intention of honoring any warranty they sell, they just plan on lying to you and saying it isn't covered by the warranty and having you pay for it. It's known as double dipping. But I'm sure the fear factor will win out as usual. Remember this answer the next time you spend "THOUSANDS" of dollars for a extended warranty, that is worded to protect the warrantor, and keep them from having to cover repairs.
    UPDATE: Thanks for all the upvotes. After reading some comments I thought I would add some thing.
    One of the things I left out of the story to shorten it was that when I wanted to test drive the car they told me I could only drive it on their lot until they had a chance to do a safety inspection.
    If they did a "safety inspection" as they claim how did they miss all the brake fluid that was on the inside of the rim that the caliper was leaking from? Because I know it was there because I took all of my tires and rims off the next day to clean them ( I'm anal if you haven't figured that out) and it was there. The only reason I didn't take it back to them that day is because I figured if there was a problem they would have caught it and fixed it when they did their inspection. And the brakes were working fine, and the light didn't come on for another 6 months.
    So that proves they never actually did a "safety inspection" because the brakes would most definitely be part of that inspection. Proving again that there are "NO" honest dealers out there.
    As far as carefully reading the warranty, what's the point if they are going to lie about everything to get you to pay for it any way? Like I said the warranty is written to make it almost impossible to get a repair covered any way. Exclusions that include normal wear and tear, and improper maintenance, to give a few can be interpreted any way the warrantor wants to. And believe me the dealer service writers and mechanics are going to say anything the dealer wants if they want to keep their jobs. The consumer has the cards stacked against them, and will always lose.

      The very fact that this “service” exists at all is proof that it is a scam. If you add up all of money that CarShield collects through premiums, it would have to exceed the amount they pay out in claims or else the company will go bankrupt. So on average, you will certainly be paying more than you’ll get back if you ever do actually file a claim.
      I have heard that insurance companies actually do run a small deficit between claims and premiums, and make up that shortfall with other investments but still, insurance is different - it’s required by law. I doubt CarShield does this - they just take advantage of people like the unsuspecting man in this video.

    I am a mechanic myself. This car Shield type of insurance is all a bunch of BS. They normally only protect the car up to a hundred fifty thousand miles. And nowadays cars can make it easily up 150,000 miles with little to no repairs. I've owned many cars. I have three cars that have over 250,000 miles with original engine and transmission.. Insurance only pays for motor and transmission. They don't pay for the small stuff that actually does go wrong in the hundred fifty thousand like starters and alternators. This is just a well-thought-out insurance policy. So the insurance providers can make a ton of money. And even if somebody does turning the claim there's probably a glitch where you can't get any money anyway.

    It’s all probability......You are paying commission and profit all the way down the line. The actual percentage of your premium that is put aside to pay for repairs is around 12%, the rest is used up in profit and commission. If you think that is a good deal then go for it. Some people will come out of extended warranties having paid in way less than they got back, but those cases are extremely rare,( they have to be for the selling of the warranty to make financial sense). Because the companies have to pay out big to some customers they have to make sure the average customer gets back way less than that 12% of their premium). Other thing the main dealer extended warranties try to make you do is to go to the dealer for all servicing. Those services are way expensive and are also propped up with telling customers they need extra work doing that simply doesn’t need done,( the extra work is also way over priced). With that in mind, I will take the risk and I will use a good independent garage I can trust.

  • @CliftonPhotographer
    @CliftonPhotographer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's the other scam to those contracts. Even IF they honor the warranty they only honor a certain dollar value. This means that while your mechanic or dealership will tell you that it costs $4,000 to replace the transmission, they will only give you maybe $2,000 or $1,000 to do it . Therefore you will be paying the majority of the price so the insurance is useless.
    Really shows you the scuminess of celebrities like Howard Stern and Ice-T, that would do this without a care about the people.
