I was busy crying at the song when they reminded us of Adam, and the look on Sam's face sent me into uproarious laughter. That was an odd mixture of emotions.
When Dean and Sam react, it's almost like they know it's their song. This whole scene touched my heart.

We all know that "Carry on My Wayward Son" is the anthem of the SPN family.
I thought it's the ending song.
It's the finale song and also some intros in early seasons. And it's the song that gives the SPN family a tether to hold on even when something's too dark, we just have to carry on, there will be peace when it's done.
It is also the song that defines the series in it's totality
Especially for Sam & Dean
This is the one and only time that Sam and Dean's entire mortal family is onscreen at once, in any capacity. For just this one song, the brothers are together with their mother and father, their half-brother, and their surrogate father. It's a glimpse of everything they have lost, and a reminder that what binds them together isn't killing monsters.

Watched the first episode air watching it in the morning before school all the way to watching the final episode at 28 years old I will always love this show and can only hope they bring it back one day happy finale anniversary supernatural
I have to confess I didn't like the ending... Not storywise btw, don't get me wrong. I thing it should end like it ended. But the way it was directed... ugh... I was really suffering through the whole tear-milking scene where Dean was impaled by the steel rod and screaming at my tv "Just die already ffs!!!" :D

Seeing Bobby rise up out of that wheelchair made me ball like a school girl. Just an epic ending to a great episode. We love you Sam and dean you’ll forever be in our hearts.

The whole episode I thought "god it would be so funny if Dean would cry about the musical at some point!" You know, because he was against it all the time and Sam would tease him with it. But when he and Sam actually DID cry, it broke my heart. Because they didn´t cry because their singing was so perfect or because the musical was so well done, they cried because they saw the people they lost. John, Bobby, Mary and Adam and that almost made me cry with them.

That episode was pretty funny to watch, but yet it got some soul and the goosebumps from all over my body just came in when they start singing. I remembered the long road where the *Winchesters* came from, for what they fight for! Yeah, that was great moment.

This was an emotional song but when the camera panned to Dean then to Sam, I cried a little. That look they gave it wasn't Dean, it was Jensen, it wasn't Sam, it was Jared. 200 episodes is a lot and I am sure those actors appreciate their fans so much.
You nailed it. That is what stood out so much to me was the look on Sam and Dean faces. With this song sang the way it was, made for a touching moment and I am sure they never expected to come this far. They did an awesome job with this episode.

The only bad thing about this is that when Supernatural ends I don't think they'll be able to top this scene. Just like what someone below me said, had this been the ending scene for Supernatural in general I wouldn't be upset at all. Because it was perfect.
That's what I thought about the season 2 finale. Dad's soul escaping hell and killing the yellow-eyed demon, that scene was perfect. I don't know how they'll top that.
I don't know that they'll die in the end. Dean still has Lisa and Ben, and Sam still wants to live a normal life. I think it'll end up with Sam and Dean pretty much massively exterminating all supernatural beings on Earth some how and both getting married (Dean to either Lisa or Cassie and Sam probably to Becky Rosen)
Of course, the words "they'll be peace when you are done" does suggest they might end up becoming angels and meet up with John, Mary, Jessica, and Bobby.
ImmaWarEagle Jared was asked how he sees this show ending and he said that he sees the brothers dying, because thats the only way the show should end, he doesnt see them kicking back and having a beer. He believes that the show should end with the brothers being dead. sad enough. and seeing this ending like this really puts a sad reality check that this show will be ending soon, some day down the road but it will end....and we will all miss it when its over.
I get that that's how he sees it now. But there's time between right now and the actual ending. I think it'll finish Season 10 and maybe do one more season.
You know what I would like to see? You remember Metatron saying that God left right? I would like to see God (Played my Morgan Freeman of course) come down and pretty much take Sam and Dean to heaven as a rewards for everything they've done. Not have them physically die, but have them be at rest.
I agree it has to end with all evil being locked away behind "gates" (like closing the gates of hell). Castiel will restore heaven and they'll finally be able to live normal lives.
Or possibly they will die at the same time as succeeding, and then reunite in heaven with their Dad, Bobby, Ellen & Joe (basically everyone meaningful throughout the series). That would be my perfect ending I think. :)
I know in an interview Jensen said that the only way he could see the show ending is with Sam and Dean both dying. I hope not, unless it;s the way I described!

Anyone who didn't like this episode because of it being a musical needs to realize this was a tribute to the fans more than anything. Jensen and Jared along with the others wanted something special for the 200th episode. While I do agree with Dean's quote "There is no music in supernatural!" this was placed at the perfect time and moment. This show was more of a tribute to fans and showing that the cast and crew appreciate all of us no matter what our views are on the show or the characters. I appreciate the fact they took the time to do something so off the wall and different for the show that showed a different look on things. They still kept it to supernatural, but they showed us the other side of the spectrum. The side that comes from the fans not just the producers and writers.
I think it was also good timing for Sam and Dean. Things have been so strained lately, they needed to remember who they are. This was perfect :)

Many other death's in Supernatural have been cheapened in my opinion. I think they should let his stay as a martyr.

I thought the whole thing with Adam was that he was literally the only option, and they used him to get to Sam and Dean? Adam was never supposed to be Michael's vessel. He offered himself up so he and his mother could be together in heaven, and at the last minute, he was refused. There was no point in his even being there, and now he's trapped in hell for all eternity. For all the Winchesters TALK about family, John was a horrible father, and Sam and Dean consistently fail to think of Adam, after they fail to save him. Twice.
That's why I love fanfiction fans ALWAYS find a way to save him. Probably the best has Adam return in an alternate season 8 where Cas resurrects into a world where there is nothing because humanity is dead. The only survivors he finds are Adam and Michael who escaped the Cage after killing Lucifer together. Together the three have to save the world and fight Crowley who is behind the whole thing. Cas sacrifices himself to kill Crowley and restore humanity and while Lucifer turns out not to be fully gone Dean finishes him for good. As the world is restored God appears in the form of Chuck and reveals to Cas (who he partially brings back) that they always talk each time he dies and Cas' return is always his choice. While he offers Cas another resurrection he chooses to remain dead in exchange for the release of Michael and Adam who would have to return to the Cage as time was being reset. God agrees but also resurrects Cas as a human so he can be with Dean. Adam and Michael end up together too as they fell for each other in the Cage where Adam changed Michael for the better. Michael was human now too. While Crowley was dead there were other threats out there and they planned to fight together to stop them. Another good fic has Adam escape the Cage during Taxi Driver with Michael's help. He finds his way into Purgatory where he meets Emma and they form an alliance to get out. With the help of Benny they escape the same way Dean and Benny escaped and Adam finds Cas (its AU at the end of season 8) and he leads Adam to the Bunker where he reunites with Sam and Dean and resurrects Emma after Dean tells him where to find her body. There's a lot of good ones out there mostly Adam/Samandriel after that character was introduced. One of my favorites of those is a crossover with Doctor Who where Alfie turns out to be the son of the Doctor's old friend Craig Owens. As a result Craig enlists the Doctor's help to find Alfie while the Doctor enlists Sam and Dean. Naomi resurrects Samandriel who rescues Adam but becomes human as a result. The Doctor helps them deal with Naomi and Samandriel takes on Alfie's life and moves in with his parents as he's now human. Adam joins him at least until he can figure out what to do with his life. My favorite one though is where Sam and Dean rescue Samandriel during Torn and Saved and Cas is tortured by Naomi for not killing him. As Gabriel was resurrected to rule Heaven they summon him and he kills Naomi and rescues Cas, He then gets with Sam. Samandriel is summoned to Heaven by God who sends him to rescue Adam and gives him the ability to do so. With the help of Michael Samandriel succeeds and God releases Michael for his change of heart and he returns to rule Heaven. To help Adam deal with the memories Samandriel shares the burden with him (Gabriel later does the same with Sam) and they get together. The four then conspire to force Dean and Cas to admit their feelings for each other and succeed.
. . . Poor Adam.

You really have to watch all 199 episodes to seriously appreciate this. But wow. This episode had me so emotional, and especially this part had me bawling. Wow.

Honestly you know a show is amazing when they have a whole episode dedicated to the fans... All the references they incorporated shows how much they truly care about us. Absolutely amazing couldn't have asked for a better 200th episode. I also love how they're going back to the monster of the week theme rather than angel vs. Demon. Love the show it'll always be my favorite.
I think this is one of the top 5 most emotional scenes in the series so far. The fact that 4 of the people they cared about the most, and lost, were (sorta) singing this song and basically telling Sam and Dean to carry on had me bawling like a baby. It's going to take me a while to recover from this.
This whole part always makes me cry as if it was meant for Dean to ensure that one day he will find his peace..

I started watching this show when it first aired, I was about 16, I’m now 32 , half of my life I watched this show and this show stays with you whether you’re like those of us who watched the long way around or you just binge watch all the seasons at once, this show is amazing no matter what.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Supernatural been there from the start and this episode was just everything it was life 10 years gone by so fast. When it ended I was in tears and it actually felt like this was the last episode ever that's how good it was if they ended it with this episode I would not have been mad because it was amazing! Anyways let's make it to 300th episode :P
Exactly! This is the part that started the tears. It was just so symbolic of everyone that they lost along the way. And Sam and Dean driving away! ASDFGHKL. This episode was absolutely amazing.

Totally correct, I had 10seasons of their struggles flash through my mind at that part. Deep in their eyes you could just see it all, fabulous episode!

It's hard to believe how much time has passed since the series began! My mom was never one to show much emotion but she almost died laughing at Dean In an episode. I only remember a handful of moments like that with my mom! BC of that this song pulls on my heart strings more than any other! ❤ RIP Mom ❤
