- The North Sea Empire is one of those CK3 Empires you form with a decision. People seem to forget that this nation was actaully a thing in real life - Cnut the Great ended up forming it after uniting the thrones of Norway, England and Denmark, though it would collapse after his death as each of his sons got a Kingdom. In this case, we try to do the same...but earlier! Deftly avoiding the danelaw, we steer Halfdan of Jorvik to greatness!

30:26 So many CK3 players, even experienced ones, miss this about the invasion casus belli. You get all the land you capture and the war target. So if you have a good enough advantage and are not in any hurry, you can avoid the war target entirely and capture a bunch of other land and get massive gains.
You can literally take two kingdoms if you play smart
Yeah this! An easy way to tell is to click on the war and capture all the red areas. If you don't capture those, you won't get them. The blue will be for free!
34:34 There is a shortcut for that on the bottom military screen. You can even make more than one rally point, place them at different places and then raise different armies with different sizes from the different points.
You can also just right click anywhere on the map after selecting the rallypoint

Fun fact for everyone: Theres only one place in the world named after King Canute and thats Knutsford. It was originally recorded in the doomsday book of 1086 as Cunetesford. The reason why its named after "Canute's ford" its because its said its where he forded the river lily.

Laith if you go to your military tab and scroll to the bottom you can select your rally point and move it, you don’t have to look for it every time.
Imagine fearing the northern army when you can defeat their army of 8000 with a stack of heavy infantry and a knight who isn't a vegetable
You can click on a banner in the military tab, that way you can change your location just as you'd click on it on a map, additionally you can change location after clicking on a banner and then right click anywhere.
He could also just make new ones for all relevant regions

One way to farm out prestige is to conquer ireland. Even if you don't hold anything yourself, or even give the vassals independence later, you can quickly form the duchy titles and even the kingdom. Great way to land an excess kid, too.
Isn’t Canute’s conquest of England based on the claim his father Bluetooth had where he conquered from Aethelred then died and the Nobles elected Aethelred and after he died Edmund Ironside, while Canute came in to conquer England and almost lost if it weren’t for the betrayal of a Saxon lord who promptly got executed by Canute afterwards since he had double crossed him too? I know that he inherited Denmark after his elder brother died, but I don’t remember if he conquered or inherited Norway too since his father Harold had also conquered it. Fun fact everyone in this story was already Christianized as Catholicism had already started to fiercely spread in Scandinavia.
He infact inherited norway but i think it was in 1030 maybe earlier or later i dont quite know

this was the first achievement i ever actually tried to get in ck3, started as fairhair in norway and it took multiple generations (including some where i was years away from being able to do the decision)
it's so hard but so worth it, and if you reform the astaru faith you can be in a position in 1066 where the vikings dominate all of europe
You don't have to use one of your vassals or subjects to educate yourself, you can offer yourself to a foreign ruler as a ward if you need a teacher with higher stats
I like to start as the lowly count of Mann, elevate the kingdom of Mann and then work towards the north sea empire. Provides for a decent length rags to riches playthrough

you don't have to look for the rally point every time, there is an option to change it or create new ones at the bottom of the military tab

Somewhere down the line Paradox has to try and simulate the rise of famous people and the quick rise and fall of certain kingdoms/empires. They tried with the child of destiny mechanic and invasions in CK2 but CK3 needs a less half-hearted buggy/gimmicky implementation of it.
I’ve always been kinda bothered with how conquest works in paradox games. Like so many kingdoms have been conquered just from single battles. Alexander just,, got the Achaemenid empire after defeating Darius. That stuff just can’t happen even in Imperator. It’s a shame because i think it would make the games even more dynamic and crazy

In the military tab, you have the little rally point in the bottom of the menu, click and right click where you want to set it down, or create more by clicking that little plus.

My first successful world conquest was with Empire of the North Sea as my primary title. I don't think I'd do it again because the bonuses from the decision don't outweigh splitting Britannia and Scandinavia into three separate empire titles.
I did it in a shorter campaign last week in one life. I conquered Norway and Denmark, then used a kingdom invasion on England when my king was 45 and stuck him on life support.
Remember when Laith did a CK3 challenge where he tried to survive against the viking invaders of Jorvik?
I formed this empire a few days ago, It was a lot of waiting ;(

I love the fact you casually mention a dude who slowly creates the identity of England and builds his kingdom and then gets absolutely curb stomped by some Nordic dude.
Cnut invaded England long after Alfred lived. It was Alfred's dynasty but several generations afterwards and by that point Alfred's grandson King Athelstan had long founded England. After Cnut, the House of Wessex would take back over for a while.
Looked like east Francia was on its way to form the HRE near the end of the video.
Sad i don't have the northern lord's dlc anymore cuz I have to use my old crappy Xbox since my pc is getting repaired. But I've done this before and it's a really fun campaign and I've had some pretty sick campaigns. Like reforming Rome FULLY as Byzantium, reviving Hellenic faith as a Persian count. And probably my most favourite (it was on the fallen eagle mod) Was re-establishing Francia but as the gallic tribes. Honestly those three campaigns have been my best thus far.
Most impressive about the north sea empire is, it was not done from england but rather tiny denmark across the sea, and in a time where they were christians so not as much about killing and murdering.
though it lasted very short (disbanded in 1035)
What makes that more impressive? Both were feudal kingdoms so the majority of the populace was rural people instead of craftsmen and professional soldiers so they were on equal footing in terms of numbers, however England was fairly disunited internally at the time so Denmark being the one to establish the empire was a given.
You say that Knud was the creator of the North Sea Empire, this is not entirely true. In fact, it was his father Svend forkbeard who was the first to conquer Norway and England as Danish king. So why don't we hear about him. Because he died shortly afterwards under mystery before he could be named king of England. And as one of his 29 generation offspring, I am proud that my nickname over Steam is. King of the North Sea Empire.
The Invade Kingdom CB (Not Holy War for Kingdom CB) is that powerful because it allows you to keep every county you fully sieged down yes.

I might try this achievment since my multitude of Single county Count to Greater Armenia campaigns ended in turmoil.

-Great Plains Horde and conquer America, you can also do more
-Play as Dai Viet or Korea, conquer China, get the Mandate and sinicize because they got cool missions for this sort of stuff

I love CK3 but the succession laws and the fact that you can't get primogeniture until like 1200 AD makes me just not play it. I still love watching videos like these tho

William the Conqueror's aunt, Emma of Normandy, was the wife of, first, AEthelred the Unready, and secondly, Cnut the Dane, and was the mother of Edward the Confessor, Alfred AEtheling, and Hardecanute. Her father, Richard of Normandy, was the grandson of the Norseman Rollo, who founded the Duchy of Normandy. Not only were these peoples related culturally, they were also related by blood.
34:35 - Edit: ok so, you go into the military tab, and you can just click on the rally point at the bottom of the tab, and you can then move it from that interaction instead of finding it on the map.
ok so this will be hard to describe from memory, but IIRC* there is a way to quickly move your rally point to a specific province as long as you are in the military tab, there should be a visible button on any province, you might have to click on it, that allows you to instantly move the rally point there, let me actually log into the game to confirm.
What made you pick jorvik for this? Feels like feudal is the slowest way to go :D, really hard to make money early on to sustain all these wars
Harald 'Hardrada' Sigurdsson was Promised Norway and would Inherit after Svein (Cnute's Son), at the Same Time Sweyn Forkbeard (Cnute's Father) promised the kingdom to his half- brother's (Olaf Haralddson later Saint Olaf) Son (Magnus the Good), Sadly Hardrada would Overthrow Magnus with the Help of Sweyn II of Denmark (Forkbread's Grandchild and Son of Estrid SvensDatter (Daughter of Forkbread))
He never had a claim on England Throne for Cnute Gave that to the line of Earl Godwinson after marrying him into his family with his niece Gytha. who was also named Harold and his Brother Tostig Godwinson had a claim on England Throne and Invited Harald Hardrada. Sadly, this War ended the Viking Age and later a Norman Ruler Willaim 'The Bastard' would Invade to form the new English Kingdom and be known throughout the world as Willaim 'The Conqueror.'
Edit: Harold Godwinson and Tostig Godwinson were the Sons of Earl Godwin, Earl of Wessex who inherited the Kingdom after the End of Queen Emma's Regency
I tried to go for the achievement related to this decision and came close to achieve it 2 times and both time I was set back because of a crusade for england, the first time I had the perfect setup, I inherited Norway and subjugated Denmark, I had only 1 heir so he would've inherited all the land, so I prepared to invade England so my heir could wait the 30 years, everything was set and a crusade for England was declared so my invasion was delayed, I died early in the crusade and my heir thankfully prepared as an amazing martial character, won the crusade of 15k vs their 40k after years, right after it I conquered latium and sacrificed the pope in a blot, conquered England, the year if 949 and I had only to wait out the 30 year of keeping England, as my character was old and I had multiple heirs, I pumped everything for whole of body and health in hope to maybe survive long enough, 7 years remaining to be able to make the decision, get a notification that my character will die in 1 year, bummer but no matter, everything is fine for th3 heir, army is capable to take down any rebellion and strong enough to both invade and subjugate the 2 lost kingdoms in a short time, another crusade for England fires... Character dies in the early part of the crusade again, new player character is on, 2 rebellions fire mid crusade, liberty and and dissolution, crusade is lost as, I put down the rebellion and I'm immediately assassinated, now new heir is the grasso who I raised as another amazing martial character but, I'm basically the only remaining asratu kingdom and have only Norway, England is fully independent and feudalized, Denmark and Sweeden somehow also became catholic and all my vassals hate me, so I basically revoked every title with a border out of line or that joined the rebellion, executed everyone rebellious, with kingdom made anew, everyone in my kingdom hates and is terrified of me, 100 relation foreigner? Recruit him ang give him a duchy, now is at - 100 and terrified, now I gave up the achievement for the run and on my way to make the empire of Italia and dismantle the papacy as the end goal of the run, no single military is stronger than mine except the 100k of the abassids so let's hope they don't jihad me for Sicily

Okay, what are the odds. I literally did a run to get the achievement for forming this empire 2 days ago. The worst part was that after a full day of playing I messed the achievement up because you're supposed to take the decision and form the empire while you're an unreformed pagan and I reformed the religion. I feel like this is salt in the wound seeing this video so soon after fucking the run up.
EDIT: Btw fuck the waiting for 30 years clause. Makes it take a lot longer than it has any right to.

@@DanielsDosTronos Good luck to you my friend. I was able to get all 3 kingdoms with my first character so try to setup your second character to be someone young with Scandinavian Elective so they can live for 30 years without problem. After that just wait for 30 and I hope you get the Achievement.

It is 109 day since asking you to play the Croatia challenge in VIC 3 Here is the full challenge with rules (Release Croatia as a subject nation, get free from Austria using whatever you can, but after that you cannot ally nor trade and you must rival them as soon as you can ( Austria, Serbia, Montenegro, Ottomans, Russia and everyone from Italian boot). While staying monarchy whole time from Danubian state.
yeah i hate that the whole "attempted murder" is unpunishable. Like if a scheme is uncovered/exposed you should deff be able to arrest/punish on grounds of conspiring against the crown.

Lol I formed this empire with a bit of a different culture: The SAMI. (I had to educate the heir I chose for the decision over into Norse but after they formed the empire they converted back to Sami)
I always keep hold of Reading aswell everytime i conquer it, make it the centre of my empire!

The random extra troops with the holy order is why I hate alliances in this game so much, start a war with a singluar weak county, couple hundred men, start a siege and then the next thing you know, you're at war with France also, cause they married into an alliance, so France sends it's entire military to help some random county, that would serve it no purpose to help

As a raging dane I feel attacked on a spiritual level with his explanation in the start as it was intact a Dane who conquered England and Norway not the other way around and it split cause he had promised the throne to a normandian noble who was a good friend of his as he hadn’t gotten any sons and was semi old then he got one but now the question was who got the throne and since the authority of Denmark to England was weak it ended up splitting of along with Norway for some random reason and Dane law (which is what he’s playing as) is danish migrants specifically and they in no way shaped England 😤
