One of the problems of isolationism is clippers/steamers u dont need any because u dont need ports for trade but u still produce them even on the highest military shipbuilding production so your shipyards allways struggle because clippers are too cheap. Also my first name is dave-james.
I feel like the way you played Japan, they could make a great tutorial nation for the game to figure out how to build a profit in an isolated market. And understand those kind of mechanics for the game before playing for the bigger market. I certainly would’ve done that if they didn’t.
Get you a nice lab notebook (ruled/graph paper every other page) for gaming notes. By the time it's half full you'll treasure the nostalgia of flipping through it.
That isn't why the Japanese really attacked Pearl Harbor: What you described was among the main goals for Japanese Expansion up to and during the War, but the MAIN reason why they attacked Pearl Harbor was they very mistakenly assumed the U.S. was going to initiate "Plan Orange" in their inevitable war against Japan (This plan stated that the U.S. would engage Japan in an all-out decisive battle at the Philippines, with a focus on battleships.). Japan thus thought they could cripple the fleet enough to give them a big upper hand in this battle. This battle however, never happened: The U.S. instead strategically retreated from the Philippines, and instead focused on far more dispersed engagements across the Pacific, and most critically moved towards using aircraft carriers and to a lesser extent submarines as their primary source of naval power. Nice video though.
I think you're confusing the Japanese strategy for winning the war once the decision was made to attack at all with the Japanese geo-political reasons for starting the war in the first place. Those are two different things. Laith is talking about the reason for attacking the US in general, it just so happened that the majority of the US Navy was in Pearl Harbor. You're talking about why they attacked specifically Pearl Harbor rather than any other US possession.
the fact is because FDR (with Soviet spy) creating Embargo oil and The Hull Note against Japanese Empire then ordered US Navy to sending tons of warships to Preal Harbor for baiting Japan to "shooting bullet first", and that happened even if Japanese Empire chose to not attacking Preal Harbor and keep ignored or asking negotiations with FDR many times, this is just only time when Imperial Japanese military finally doesn't have oil anymore for defending himself and US military in Preal Harbor can invading Japanese islands without worry
20:30 Since you're so behind in tech at the start the tech trickle from the Great Powers will be quite significant if you build enough universities to go way over your innovation cap as excess innovation goes into speeding up the tech spread into your country. Expensive, yes, but that could also be worth it as you tech rush Production and Society techs while the Military techs filter through.
Laith, university's increase the speed that people train into new jobs eg. officers for your navy (and every other job). Also, pay for your government wages so people work in the uni's
A good strat for conquest is to make the ai release a nation. Then you puppet it and then annex subject. It massively decreases the amount of infamy compared to conquer state
My strategy as Japan or any country with way too many pops is to just focus on one state. I got Kansai on optimal tax capacity and made it like 80% of my GDP by the 1880's. It's probably more effective than spreading out your government buildings. I think.
I usually go for colonization as the first research as japan to make sure russia doesnt steal that land, super hard to take it back if they manage to steal it.
you have to use the "liberate country" option to liberate things like Manchuria. as the UK I liberated 3 countries in Great Qing when I had to make a treaty port. it literally split thr country in half rendering west great qing useless as well as the territories I liberated
America to Japan be like: Late 1800s "HEY, open up your market to us or else we will blockade you!" WW2 "Oumm, you have become strong cause of our trade so now we will embargo you."
They really need to 1) increase AI reluctance to form treaties with unrecognized nations, 2) have an equivalent of subsistence farms for natural resources like mines because building them is tedious
Have you ever played total warhammer 3. It is another strategy but u get to experience the epic battles against crazy foes or u can be some crazy demon thing
It is unfortunate that after all that hype, just like with Imperia, Victoria 3 was abandoned just as soon as it launched because it was poorly received by paradox's niche community. I was kinda looking forward to content being added for specific events, I mean in this time period the Imperial Restoration was a big deal, I mean Japan had a brief but rather significant civil war in the 19th century.
Naval base employment is increasing slowly because your training rate is low and unupgraded. The right hand production method affects how fast you train.
0:30 me who has concured all of east asia and going into middle asia and USA in historical round Call of War xD I just noticed i have an year of experience in that real life strategie game. Im getter than paid ppl lmao
I've watched so many Korean TH-camrs control Korea on Vic3 and make it the great power with mods that are meant to raise the difficulty (with all the "hyper-realistic" historically accurate nerf mods to tank Joseon's economy in a way that PDX couldn't invest their resources to do so). So I really loved turning my brain off and watching this one as Japan does what Japan is supposed to do in the local neighborhood better than the historical AI.
There is also one thing about army that you should know. Number of participant solders in fight can be increased. Usually it will increase due to "conscription" or employment process in your barracks, but you can force it by deleting some barracks until employment there is full. for example, if you have 3000 man in barracks that can hold 10 (lvl10 basically) each division from that barrack will have around 300 man. If you delete 7 out of 10 barracks - it will consolidate troops to full. This can help during battle, to manually increase numbers of your solders, and in general will increase fighting potential of your man, if you can't recruit as fast as you loose your troops. But be careful, its not a good strategy for long wars. Yes, you will need to re-build what you demolish, but barracks are not expensive to construct.
Hey Laith, I got three Vicky 3 challenges for you. You should play the non-meta way. Play a Ethnostate and still have the slave trade. Try to still have a successful country. Maybe play as Brazil for this challenge? Next play Persia, try to keep your independence and form the Persian Empire. Try to industrialize the nation and liberalize the nation. (Maybe communist, Anarchist, or a Republic) hell you could tie it in with the Ethnostate Challenge. You could also play as the pope, and try to do Crusades against the Protestants, Muslims, and Treaty ports around the world. While all your laws forming around the church, like state religion, charity hospitals and religious schools.

I was doing well with Japan being completely self reliant. Then I finally figured out how to open up to the world and did that. I was in the 1870s around that point. Also the whole war mechanic is busted in my opinion. One could outnumber an opponent 15 to 1 with an army armed with tanks versus an opponent with muskets. The moment the opponent goes into defense mode, suddenly an army would be walking into a meat grinder with the highly larger and more advanced army being vaporized. I know this as I have experienced it many times.
So its day 33 and im gonna mix up the challenge a little bit. Play as Croatia, get free from austria, after that you cannot ally them anymore ever, cannot ally serbia, ottomans, montenegro and russia, that does include the wars you cannot ask them to help you. You also cannot trade with any of them import and export. Form Yugoslavia first then after you do that form Danubian state. At the end you must be in top 5 powers. And one last thing I wanna say thank you for everything you do. I love your videos and you made me buy Vic 3 it looked too good to pass on. Im now a crackhead and addicted to Vic 3 thanks to you. My girlfriend hates you cuz of that. :D

great video! one of the few vicy 3 ytbers with charisma as far as i’m aware. should’ve tried to form the empire of the rising sun formable if possible though!
*Sees title*
All of Asia: "Ah shit, here we go again"
Love the longer more in depth video style
An hour long video?!?!? Is this what Christmas is?
I love this style of you trying to min max and whipping out the pen.
Director's extended cut. Looking forward to 24 hour videos soon.
Easiest way to get Samurai loyal is switching to a professional army
Me, a student of history: "Wait, *WAT*"
One of the problems of isolationism is clippers/steamers u dont need any because u dont need ports for trade but u still produce them even on the highest military shipbuilding production so your shipyards allways struggle because clippers are too cheap. Also my first name is dave-james.
Theirs a mod that separates Military and non military shipyards and it makes a world of a difference
I feel like the way you played Japan, they could make a great tutorial nation for the game to figure out how to build a profit in an isolated market. And understand those kind of mechanics for the game before playing for the bigger market.
I certainly would’ve done that if they didn’t.
given the amount of universities build, Laith figured out planned economy but still does not understand the inovation and education system
Laith can you do monarchist America?
You're talking about why they attacked specifically Pearl Harbor rather than any other US possession.
the fact is because FDR (with Soviet spy) creating Embargo oil and The Hull Note against Japanese Empire then ordered US Navy to sending tons of warships to Preal Harbor for baiting Japan to "shooting bullet first", and that happened
even if Japanese Empire chose to not attacking Preal Harbor and keep ignored or asking negotiations with FDR many times, this is just only time when Imperial Japanese military finally doesn't have oil anymore for defending himself and US military in Preal Harbor can invading Japanese islands without worry
With Laiths philosophy of military training we would still be left with Peasant Levies.
I love how he’s making what are essentially muskets and cannons when America, France, and Britain haven’t come yet
Laith, university's increase the speed that people train into new jobs eg. officers for your navy (and every other job). Also, pay for your government wages so people work in the uni's
Getting that Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere started early, I see.
The Laith is Lathe meme will never die, we must not allow it!
59:39 Opium is a painkiller. Something I’m sure that militaries found useful.
A good strat for conquest is to make the ai release a nation. Then you puppet it and then annex subject. It massively decreases the amount of infamy compared to conquer state
Play isolationist and hoard all the world's opium.
I think the reason you get people in the navy so slowly is because people don't have qualifications for it. So you would need universities.
I'll have you know James is a really good name (I swear I'm not named James)
Always good seeing an hour long Laith vid :)
My strategy as Japan or any country with way too many pops is to just focus on one state. I got Kansai on optimal tax capacity and made it like 80% of my GDP by the 1880's. It's probably more effective than spreading out your government buildings. I think.
ah, the London strategy
aka your entire economy collapses as soon as theres a single traffic jam on a major road
America to Japan be like:
Late 1800s "HEY, open up your market to us or else we will blockade you!"
WW2 "Oumm, you have become strong cause of our trade so now we will embargo you."
They really need to 1) increase AI reluctance to form treaties with unrecognized nations, 2) have an equivalent of subsistence farms for natural resources like mines because building them is tedious
Have you ever played total warhammer 3. It is another strategy but u get to experience the epic battles against crazy foes or u can be some crazy demon thing
wondering if we will get laiths reaction to morrocos victory in one of these videos, I really enjoy them
I feel as if he cheated. Did he produce that irl notepad himself or import it? I think not thus he lost the challenge
I'd assume he'dve built a paper mill atleast once so I'm going to say it's a legitimately gained notepad
PLEASE use the F3 menu for building instead of going into the state view. Then you wont get lost on where which factory is :)
Naval base employment is increasing slowly because your training rate is low and unupgraded. The right hand production method affects how fast you train.
0:30 me who has concured all of east asia and going into middle asia and USA in historical round Call of War xD
I just noticed i have an year of experience in that real life strategie game.
"I created millitaristic japan"
did you know that the sky is blue?!?!??!?
Another great video from the wonderful Latte
Why is yt slapping me with an add every 2 minutes? Is it because the videos on my second monitor or would it have something to do with the channel? IK its kind of a me problem but this is the first time I'm noticing them rolling so often.
i think there should be a way to claim colonizable terrain in some kind of treaty, so that stuff like in hokkaido doesnt happen. tis would also fix the weird usa/canada-borders that often form

How long he didn't recognize he has so many Ships and Soldiers in Reserve without a General.
It's not really a meatgrinder, because the combat width is so absurdly low. Pick up a mod that increases the combat width. Tech still dominates.
18:52 the Wokou pirates are the new Somali pirates stealing steam ships passing by china
This comes on the day Japan loses to Croatia in the world cup
"Typical American name, " I should've known it was coming
"open the country . stop letting it be closed" ~ USA
Isolationism is the best economy if you conquer the world.
Tax boost.
Hey next you should do Korea. So you can talk about admiral Ye stopping the Korean invasion of Korea
Yi had a lot of trouble with the Korean court but I don't think they were the invaders. 😉
Not according to laith
If laith skipps out of researching the late, does that mean laith will never be born in this universe?
You should try applying a similar strategy with Madadascar
So you just mirrored actual history
I accidentally do isolationist every game by making my country self-sufficient and I only export stuff no buying
Laith roleplaying soviet supreme council 😂😂
Click on "market price" to sort the goods by price
Defend Imperial Japan for Pearl Harbor, no one bats an eye. Defend the German Reich for Danzig and everyone loses their minds.

>Militaristic Japan
Ah lads not again
Laith can you do a run where you make the Philippines independent and conquer all the pacific island nations and Japan, and take over SE Asia?
Shout Out to All the people taking handwritten notes during lectures^^
I tried this same thing and got serfdom abolished in the first rotation
Mans really did just take Cuba and not North Hokkaido...
Cubans in this temporal line: *Communist Oni-chan*
I did something similar and in my game Oregon got free from Britain and I instantly puppeted them🤣🤣
dayuuuum u should rename this to japan tutorial

But can you make a militaristic Galicia Volhynian horde?
Just watched the whole vid!
