I love seeing you two having a more relaxed and carefree summer with no obligations in the garden. We have to work hard, but play (rest) is also necessary to have some balance in an otherwise choatic world. God bless you both. 😊 Ps. Growing up in the south where fishing is a national past time, we were always taught the same concept of earthworm+spinner+heavy hook to bait those big ol catfish that play hard to get. And it has always worked.
In east Texas it’s called trolling as you have your motor at the slowest speed as you move thru the water. Have fun. We do. This is done at daylight/sunrise and sunset
So, nice to see you having a good day and enjoying each other. My husband of 50 years, past on the 19th from Alzheimer’s. I hope you have many years like today, God bless you.
My Mother-in-law used to pickle Sheep head. Tasted just like pickled herring! She was definitely a "no waste lady". I miss her. Thanks for the memories!😊
Wow. What a beautiful day out on the water. Walleye are so fun to catch. You're heading into perch season- oh my. Such sweet eating. Fresh water fishing is my favorite, but I'll take and fishing😁
Thanks for bringing us along 😊. Beautiful boat beautiful day. Brings back many memories of my family going up to Wisconsin (From IL) to stay in a cottage and lots of fishing for perch and pike. In college I camped and portaged up in Boundary Waters MN where I caught a huge pike, delish! We also went to MI sand dunes a lot growing up. Miss it!
Love your boat. Watching you guys fishing on such a nice day with flat water makes me smile! My husband and I love going fishing in our boat too. Your boat is lovely. We live in western Washington by Puget Sound so we do a lot of fishing. I always can salmon and tuna if I have it. We go crabbing and shrimping as well as halibut fishing. We have 3 chest freezers. One with meat, venison, pork, etc. one with seafood we caught and one with vegetables and things like bulk flour. We love pan fish too! Walleye is delicious! And that is an impressive May Fly hatch!
Awesome.. I was raised in Michigan. In Flint. We all loved fishing In Lake Michigan, up in Charlevoix. And Local lakes. Lake Marion was a Favorite. Perch were one of the best to eat.
Your boat looks like so much fun! Hubby has a platform bass boat and a slightly larger basic boat (can you tell I don't know boat lingo?). Neither have any room for a 'head' so I don't go out with him, haha. That is ok, it makes for a nice non-spouse hobby diversion for him at our local Eastern Washington lakes. Thank you for sharing the fun and excitement of your fishing trip. Your Sheep Head sound a lot like when people here get a 'sun fish'...from what Hubby says they like all the bait and give a little fight but just get sent back to tell the tale of their adventure. hahaha Oh man, those May Flies look really annoying. I am so n NOT a bug person...ugh. Surprised by that cleaning station...I've never heard of such a thing, how nice!
Hello from NC! Our walleye fishing time is early spring; love walleye for fish tacos!! Yum! I had to tell my husband to STOP fishing, because we had more than we could use (what a blessed problem!)
Canton Oklahoma has had a Walleye fishing tournament every year..for many years. I've been going nearly every year for nearly 44 yrs! They are so much fun to catch!
My goodness ❤ thats a beautiful boat you and Todd have, Rachel 😊 I could spend a week fishing in something like that...infact a person could live on it in the warm weather. Youre so lucky💖🌞 But Iknow you both work so very hard for all you have. Enjoy your time on the water. God bless you both from the UK. 🇬🇧
I was at Lake Saint Clair the other day and I didn't see any mayflies but I'm sure when I go out next week it will be plenty. When I catch sheepshead I use them in the garden.
Ok, I love that color green shirt. I already have the red hoodie and love it. Guess I need to get one now😂 looks like great weather for fishing. It's in the 90's in Florida 😂🙏🏽♥️
Glad you two had a chance to be on the water. If it's something that would interest you, I would love to see a detailed how-to video of how to properly clean, filiet, and take care of fresh fish once you catch them. I have a group of guys who want to go fishing but they don't like killing them, and they have no faith that I can- I'd love to prove them wrong, ha ha.
The water looks so inviting! Haven't been out on a boat in so long, I hadn't realized how much I miss it! 😁 Beautiful boat and a fun day. Now that's summer!
Fish carcasses are great for garden fertilizer under pepper and tomato starts when you plant out. We usually keep fish scraps in the freezer till planting out in the spring. Take them out the Day before so they thaw.
Walleyes are ALWAYS a welcomed bonus fish down her on TRUMAN LAKE in Missouri. I love them! They are my second favorite fresh water eating! Yellow perch are my favorite! Night crawler spinner rigs work well here too.
What, no Gilligan’s Island music? You just need to add a 3-way swivel. Add a sinker/weight on a 2’ leader, which drags on the bottom, while you drift. Keep the line taunt. Blow the crawler, so the crawler harness rig (you already are using - minus the sinkers) floats behind 2’ above the bottom. Mark the spots where you get them. The huge ones are out there MARCH/April, when it’s really, REALLY, cold on the water. Try some bigger sheepshead. They are not bad. They also have a characteristic tug, tug, tug, when you are pulling them in. Gut them, grill them, toss them to the chickens if you don’t like them.
We have some bottom bouncers, but winds that way were only like 3-4 MPH. So figured casting was a better option since our drift speeds were super slow. We're still learning, thanks for the tips!
@@1870s Bingo! Yes, bottom bouncers are the way to go. But you really need 6-7' bait cast rods and reels. Get some rod holders. Then you can drift or troll until you get some hits or find some on the fish finder. Walleyes have glass eyes that are sensitive to light and hang out at the bottom.
Looks like an inboard motor. Plenty of rail space in the back and rear side corners for rod holders. The roof you could disconnect in the rear; maybe roll it up to the front. You'd like the headspace to fish inside and walk around. Take a picture. Get a bid. Get 'er done. 🐟
Yay!! Glad you had a restful and fun day! We’re on our way home from picking up our chickens from the processing place. We raised 20 Cornish cross this year. They’re 8 weeks old today and going in the freezer. 😊 Maybe next year Freedom Rangers?
This was interesting seeing you in a different environment enjoying yourselves..although I have to say I was a bit anxious seeing you fishing at the outer edge of the boat. I'm sure you feel safe and do it quite often, but I have thalassophobia and couldn't continue watching..😳
More videos like this please! Also tell me about your SeaRay! Ive been in the boat business for 22 years, love those cuddy cabins. What year and how long is she? She looks great!
Haven't been on the water in 2 yrs..I'm so hoping to get out soon and am so looking forward to those fun memories to make when me and hubby go adventuring once the kids are no longer home..I'm anxious about the kids leaving to do their thing but am also excited about the idea that we will have our own adventure together
@@1870s thank you I have my first one about to leave home in the next couple months and I can feel myself starting to get super overwhelmed by it so I just gotta keep telling myself that everyone goes through it and me and my husband with finally get to build our solo relationship soon since we started off with already having a child !! Happy to have fun times to look forward to!
Have you guys tried jigging for them? That’s how we fish for them. Trolling is helpful in finding them, after that feels like cheating ;) we are in the UP chasing them this week!
We are near Lake St. Clair. Everyone around here call them Fish Flies. I've never heard them called May Flies. They cover everything within a couple miles of the lake. Driving over them and hearing the crunch is not fun!!
Big fun! I was wondering if the junk fish would be good fertilizer tea ingredients? Or if they taste ok, pressure canning will make the bones soft and not an issue....of course I know zero about them.
Great video! Glad to see you guys have a boat. What year Sea Ray is that? We live on the coast of NC and it's hard to find a solid classic SR in that size range due to the harsh salt water conditions. If we're not on a boat, we're working in the garden. Quite a contrast right? Grow food-catch food is my idea of being closer to self sustainability.
It's an older boat. Older than I would prefer, but the price aligned with our budget. It's from 1986. 30 footer with twin 5.7 MERCS. Previous own redid the entire cabin area, so that was a huge plus.
So awesome to see you guys enjoying a break from homesteading this year and doing all the things. Great video.

I live on Lake Erie closer to Ckevelaand and just saw first Mayflies my patio screen door this morning. True sign of summer😂
I grew up on the Canadian side of Lake Erie. My dad did a lot of fishing. Loved the perch and walleye.

So much fun fish with y’all while I snap beans.
What fun!! You both look like your having a blast. ❤
I’m from Toledo and you guys are living my dream. Hopefully one day I can do that.
love these films of fishing
Looked like great day!
This video makes me want a boat! Looks so fun.
Getting wooossey just watching this rocking boat …. 😅
It actually was pretty calm

So cool to go fishing. It's been a while for me.Glad you caught something to take back home. Thanks for sharing!
I had to do a double take on this one, you guys could have waved at my hubby at work! Davis Besse worker. Small world.
Fish on. Oh yeah😊
I loved the fishing video and your boat looks cozy. Great job fishing

Maybe you should be keeping the sheep head for garden furtilizer.
That was awesome! Thanks for taking us along what a fun trip ! Those may flies omg !
What a relaxing day.
We have used fresh water drum/sheepheads for fish tacos. Cut into nuggets and fried is corn meal with taco seasoning in the breading.
More fishing videos please. And thanks for not wearing a speedo Todd 😂😂😂
Looks like a fun day.

I grew up on Lake St. Clair perch and pickerel are the best . May flies are bad across the river too
Great video!!
My dad always kept the sheepshead. He filet them and fried them very good!!
Enjoy.
Walleye is so so good.
Growing up by Lake St. Clair, teens loved to drive by the lake and do donuts on the roads covered with “fish flies”.
Awesome!!
Those sun dried tomato wheat thins are the best!

Walleye is the best! It's what I grew up eating from Lake of the Woods, MN.
Just loved watching this!
Sheep’s head where we fish are delicious!
Enjoying this.
We had a traumatizing experience with may flies… you all are brave to be out there with those horrible insects .
Just visited Lake Erie a few weeks ago.

We used to use flatfish to catch walleye. They suck on the bait like perch
I enjoyed this video
Good job guys
it works I tie my own spinners for drifting
Fun!
I'm from south Carolina, the sheep's head is striped and good eating. I don't recognize what you called sheep head. Ours are in salt water.
Well that was fun! Val C
Love it!❤
Fishing is so not my hobby but I was here rooting for a catfish lol...my favorite. I grew up on a river and fried catfish was Sunday dinners for us.

My Dad and Pap used to go on Lake Erie fishing Walleye when I was a kid before Pap sold his boat. I always wanted to go but was too little.
Will you show what you do with it when you eat it? That’s awesome, how fun
