Yes, that bush is a flowering Quince. I have a start off my great gma's quince from their old homestead about 85 years ago. My mom remembered her planting it. It's out my kitchen window, so I get to enjoy it every day.
Hi Todd & Rachel I Husband was from Liberia and we used to eat Smoked Goat meat it was Delish., My husband passed from a tragic accident., Joe taught me how to make many of their dishes, thanks for sharing 4-30-2023👍🏽👍🏽❤️❤️
I live on the farm my great-grandparents had. Their rule was no tree planted unless it produced food. So there is something to harvest most of the year here in Northern California (9B). I'm very fortunate ❤
I really liked the 'day in the life' format! So fun to have the motivation of what can be done in a day! I watched you make that yummy quiche and now I'm hungry, but it's 9 pm! 😁
Hubs and I had a dream to homestead on a smaller scale and you guys are a perfect inspiration. He passed three weeks ago and our dream died with him. Enjoying your beautiful videos now in a different way. Take good care of each other! ❤
Yes it's a Quince. What you need to know is that it flowers on old growth, so you have to be careful when pruning, that you don't cut off all your flowering branches (I did that a few years ago - very sad!). It also grows big so put it is a large spot. Mine is late this year due to our cold, cold spring, but it's coming out now and just makes me smile every time I see it. Definitely worth the investment for Spring color!
Love your channel, but I would definitely wash the lids and rings before putting on my jars. Those lids but ave been in a factory, trucks, warehouses. Ugh.
I thought it was a burning bush, but up close I saw the flowers. It's beautiful. Looked like an azalea to me, but I also use the app for plant identification.
Flowering quince! My mom had a huge one in her yard for years as I was growing up!!! They have fruit at the end of the season and also quite a pricier on the branches, so be careful!
We have had nothing but trouble with our FD since soon after we got it, like right after the 3rd batch. So after a year of trouble shooting their taking it in for service/repairs. I want a new one since this one has been trouble for 11 months. Maddening!!!! NOT Azella!!! Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.
I'll visit them for trees and pick up some. Good "reasonable" prices. I found some small potted $10 blueberries at a local nursery in Ida, MI. Decided to give that another try. Tractor Supply used to sell very young, but $8 fruit trees. The problem is the big ones are now $40. Your trees should survive. It's the same natural area where they initially grew at.
We just butchered one of our Nubians…I just decided to can all of it and skip the freezer. I have a hard time cooking goat to make it tender unless I slow cook it. Canning it is just perfect for us. Makes it versatile and easy work of processing so we can skip the vacuum seal bags etc.
Thank you guys yet again for sharing your day with us, I always take something away from spending time with you two on my back porch!😄 I did have a thought though as I was watching you trim your goat meat as it reminded me of my dear meat. I don’t know if you’re going to raise meat goats again but I would suggest to have the butcher leave the ‘stew’ meat in as large chunks as possible (roast type size) and then you trim them into stew chunks yourselves. Much easier than trimming each individual piece of stew. I also cut up my meat when it’s still partially frozen and it cuts into perfect 2” square chunks really easily. Just a thought to share since you’ve taught me so much! ❤🇨🇦❤
The bush definitely looks like a quince. I have a similar one but prune it small. The blooms really are so beautiful, which are actually in profile picture on here that noone can really see lol.
Great vid ❤ That’s an ornamental quince and they are one of my childhood favourites. The leaves go through beautiful changes in colour as well. Happy growing and God bless you 😊
Such a fun video! I appreciate how lovely u both work together, so heart warming. Oh that microwave 👎 I finally was able to ditch mine and put in a real fan above my stove and just love it!! All the space I need and finally venting out the cooking steam and heat, so helpful in the summer heat. Oh my and the price on those pines! That's awesome!!
I've run into a lot of the jars not accepting rings. And in all the sizes. I do know the wide mouth rings from Pur brand I've especially had issues with.
I've seen on another channel that inability to close a ring properly was there was 2 lids stuck together. Fyi to trouble shoot if it happens again. Blessings
Lovely video! I love what you are doing. I first discovered your channel when you were doing the floors. Arielle & Eic from Simple Living Alaska had referenced your channel~
My parents had a double oven range, small oven on top. Mom had put a pressure cooker of green beans on and she went to check it and it exploded, spitting hot green beans and glass on her. Luckily , the lid to the canner hit the upper oven saving her from a direct hit. She had some burns and cuts but nothing severe. She was pretty sure she probably didn’t get the lid on right. The plant looks like what we call japonica or fire in the bush.
Made a fritatata today instead of the quiche but it was tasty and I look forward to the leftovers. It was such a great way to use up some eggs and then I made pasta dough that I will roll out and cut tomorrow
Quince jelly is really delicious….but the quince fruit is very bitter, so you have to add a sweet fruit and sugar to it. I have made it with rhubarb and a bunch of sugar.
Thats one of my favorite things when i visit family up in Michigan, the honor system with farm stands. We've picked up so much corn and all kinds of home grown stuff and i always leave more than whats asked. Sadly that system would never fly where i live 😢
Were did you get that coffee drip maker? We love it! Quiche looks real good. We have had a jar that the lid would not go on after trying a few lids, I would scrap it. We have the All American 921, it's real wide and fits on our stove. Thanks for sharing your day, God Bless.
I love the quiet peacefulness of your videos. They counter all the world drama provide sanity for me. Thank you.
Yes, that bush is a flowering Quince. I have a start off my great gma's quince from their old homestead about 85 years ago. My mom remembered her planting it. It's out my kitchen window, so I get to enjoy it every day.
That red bush is called Quince...it blooms when forsythia does...early spring!
Yep. Quince
I love my quince! Blooms early with the daffodils ❤
You can make jam/ jelly with quinces
Mmmmmmmmm!!!! I’m so going to try making one of those (cant eat eggs tho so its tofu for me)
I agree with you and don’t care for silicone whisks. I think you should use what you want. It’s your kitchen!😂

Bless you for the Silicon whisk. I have a plastic one and it's holding up.
I really liked the 'day in the life' format! So fun to have the motivation of what can be done in a day! I watched you make that yummy quiche and now I'm hungry, but it's 9 pm! 😁

Rachel I love your yellow sweater ❤ you look so cute in it
Bush appears to be a flowering quince. They are beautiful!
The quince will make apples that make the best jelly ever! I have one started from my grandmothers quince.

The best spatula ever!
If you have an iPhone you can take a picture and click the "i" on the bottom then click "Look up plant" and it will identify the tree/leave.
I think Quince. Lovely! 🥰
Good Evening Rachel and Todd I definitely will make your quiche love the recipe Margaret Lynch SOUTHERN IRELAND
Chaenomeles japonica, japanese quince, Maule's quince, red flowering quince.
Love your videos ❤️
Definitely a quince. Very pretty. You are both such amazing cooks. Everything always looks so delicious. Have a wonderful week. God bless. ~Lisa
I was so happy to see you question the jar. I do that. Thought I was being paranoid. Love your content ❤
Love the big funnel you used for the freeze-dried items, looks handy! Your videos are so calm and inspiring, thank you for sharing. :)
It came from here: amzn.to/3LpYsfo
Love your channel, but I would definitely wash the lids and rings before putting on my jars. Those lids but ave been in a factory, trucks, warehouses. Ugh.
Great video, love your gentle and caring lifestyle ❤️
I thought it was a burning bush, but up close I saw the flowers. It's beautiful. Looked like an azalea to me, but I also use the app for plant identification.
Thank you for thinking of us noise sensitive types! I really appreciate it.
Rachel.. I made homeade cornbread today and added the cowboy candy.. it was a hit with the family..
Thank you for sharing
A quince tree would make a great Mother's Day gift!!!!
Flowering quince! My mom had a huge one in her yard for years as I was growing up!!! They have fruit at the end of the season and also quite a pricier on the branches, so be careful!
Yes a quince. Some varieties give you a great fruit for jams.
We have had nothing but trouble with our FD since soon after we got it, like right after the 3rd batch. So after a year of trouble shooting their taking it in for service/repairs. That stinks, ours has treated us well. No issues.
What a resourceful way to use broccoli leafs. I’ll have to start saving mine. Looks so good ❤
You can can quince jelly or whatever...delicious. and quince smells so so good!
That is a great looking quiche, That bush is gorgeous, Never had goat meat, interesting.
Rachael the pink flowering bush you like is think is a Chaenomeles x superba. Otherwise known as flowering quince
i enjoy watching your videos
We have a flowering quince bush. It has never borne fruit, so I believe they're purely ornamental.
I totally understand the motivation thing.
I love an egg quiche or frittata, so many meals from one morning of effort lol
Flowering quince. Hummingbirds love it as an early feed source. Doesn't really produce edible fruit in my area, zone 7B
I've had that happen with the ring not wanting to go on and tried a different ring and it was fine. The ring can get damaged and not work.
The quints is easy,,,, you can take a few cuttings and stick em in dirt and many will root… has big thorns,
That looks wonderful

Just watched the last one you did, I am loving this
Can you tell me what Cowboy candy is
That looks like the Quince I have in my yard in Maine. You put the fruit in a brown bag to ripen.
Love your videos! So many amazing kitchen adventures! Have you considered pulling together a cookbook?
I would buy this in an instant!
Oh me too❤️
We have plans to do a cookbook someday ♥
Great video.
The Ap, "Picture This" is very helpful to use to ID plants, trees and shrubs. I love the flowering quince too!
Been using Google Lens lately, it's quite good too.
The bush definitely looks like a quince. I have a similar one but prune it small. The blooms really are so beautiful, which are actually in profile picture on here that noone can really see lol.

Did you get that 8th egg in the quiche? The one hiding behind the bowl? 🙂
Maybe? ♥
Such a fun video! I appreciate how lovely u both work together, so heart warming.

Flowering Quince. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.
Nice check in
I have always called it a fire bush
Great quiche. You had a busy day. Thanks for sharing. Take care Rachel and Todd✌️🇺🇸❤️
I've run into a lot of the jars not accepting rings. And in all the sizes. I do know the wide mouth rings from Pur brand I've especially had issues with.
That’s a quince, for sure ~ I have a thornless double knockout quince in my yard, I love it !
Looks like a quince, makes good jelly or jam but they are very hard even when ripe.
I'm turning 73 next month. I cannot comprehend a microwave over the stove. What? The stove needs an air vent over it.
I've seen on another channel that inability to close a ring properly was there was 2 lids stuck together. Fyi to trouble shoot if it happens again. Blessings
Oh what an idea to dehydrate broccoli leaves! I do kale leaves so I assume broccoli would be similar
I had that trouble and decided the rings after being used a couple times can warp.
I love your pie crust recipe! Always have 3 or 4 in my freezer, for those on-a-whim moments that makes me want to bake a pie or 2, lol.
I really love that pour over coffee maker in the first bit.....did you make that?? So cool! Please share! I love my coffee strong and fresh!
It was a gift, here's some more info th-cam.com/video/-HQv3vR64Iw/w-d-xo.html
Lovely video! I love what you are doing. I first discovered your channel when you were doing the floors. Arielle & Eic from Simple Living Alaska had referenced your channel~
Wow what a great price on evergreens. Your quiche looked amazing. TFS 👍
I love that coffee contraption. I thought you were in the cabin at first. Do the "noise sensitive" people know they can turn the volume down?
Here's some more details about it th-cam.com/video/-HQv3vR64Iw/w-d-xo.html
LINDO DOMINGO MAS 🎉
Great video and wow, love the prices on those trees!
Quince very tough to kill when/if you want to remove it.
Nice choices.
You will enjoy the barrier during winter once older too.

I found you when I was searching how to grow big onions you popped up.
welcome ♥
Beautiful trees
Now I want a red Quince too!! ❤
Flowering Quince
Thr red bush is called - Maule’s Quince also know as Chinese Quince. Beautiful trees y’all got
Quince jelly is really delicious….but the quince fruit is very bitter, so you have to add a sweet fruit and sugar to it. I have made it with rhubarb and a bunch of sugar.
Flowering quince
Make quince jelly - it tastes similer to honey so good on Brie cheese or creame cream cheese !
Sounds good
Thats one of my favorite things when i visit family up in Michigan, the honor system with farm stands. We've picked up so much corn and all kinds of home grown stuff and i always leave more than whats asked. Sadly that system would never fly where i live 😢
I love pressure canned meat in general. I canned lots of elk this year and it's like pot roast in a jar. Delicious! I bet goat meat is similar.
What a awesome looking Quiche
Wow, those trees are cheap. We don't have anything like that Here! Good find. Nancy from nebraska
Were did you get that coffee drip maker? We love it! Quiche looks real good. We have had a jar that the lid would not go on after trying a few lids, I would scrap it. We have the All American 921, it's real wide and fits on our stove. Thanks for sharing your day, God Bless.
Try canning raw onions. They brown in the jar and are little less mushy.
Quiche looks devine.
I canned most all of my deer meat. It mellows it and i can make anything with it i would make with canned beef.
Great prices on those trees!
Rachel do you have a video canning a ham in chunks?
I love honey or agave in my coffee..
The quiche looked amazing. I use For Jars too. And that bush is a Quince. Love your channel. ♥️
Great video ❤
Hi Rachael and Todd😊
