Saw him with the first Ziggy concert in Hollywood and thru all his changes. I got to see him front row. He was really white and thin and fantastic ! I'm 70 and still remember all the concerts but the first was the best !

I've always been a massive Bowie fan but this track is particularly brilliant. What I love about this live version is how everyone on the stage does their bit to make it so memorable.
Yes they did. Why do you think they would not? This was Bowie's second coming. He was already an adored performer, but he was was older and wiser and clearly enjoying the new lease of life. People were well aware what they were witnessing. I should know, I saw him around then too and it was one of the best live music experiences of my life!

I was there. Believe me, we were all nearly puking with excitement. Nobody knew what his set was going to be before he done it. He'd pretty much said years previously that he wouldn't be playing any of his old songs again. So we'd all went in with the attitude like oh well, it's still Bowie, he's still a legend, it's worth pitching up for. And then he done China Girl, then Changes and well you know the rest. We couldn't believe what we were seeing and hearing. Loads of people were crying and hugging each other. It was the most awesome night ever and we totally did appreciate it.
Ive loved him my whole life and his music was very guitar, which got me hooked. He's had magnificent guitarists, they sound like a band of hired gunslingers:Ronson, Heydon, Slick, Alomar, Fripp, Belew, Gabrels. Just superb.

Even though Adrian Belew was the ultimate for the most totally out there intro to this, as i witnessed on the 78 tour, Slicky slays it here with one of the best ive heard him do. Theres one even greater than this it maybe one in Canada 83,not sure. The solo is intergral to this supernova song and this is a beauty Slicky!
Actually, the 83 solo intro in Sydney, Aust is my fave one ever of Slick's. Theres Belew's mindbending intros from the 78 tour that set the benchmark, and Slick was brilliant having to follow that live on the 83 tour.

"Here are we, one magical movement From Kether to Malkuth" refering to his delvings into Kabalah. Kether to Malkuth....he also did this in every performance.
I think thats great, you listen to him everyday. Ive been a fan all my life and i almost watch him playing live, or his song galaxy close to everyday. I was blessed lucky to see him 4 times, one of those is still the greatest show i ever saw in my life, out of maybe 100 concerts.
As much as I love this backing band ( I was lucky enough to see Bowie around the early 2000s and the show blew my socks off!), the band Bowie had in the late 70s, with Dennis Davis on drums did a slamming version of this tune.
I couldn't agree more. I saw him in 1978 at the Providence Civic Center and that performance was used on the Heros album. This version is a bit slow and not as dynamic as the 1978 version.
@@mikerieck306 It's high praise, because this band of musicains (sometimes with Zack on drums and Ger ie Spooky Ghost on guitar) was an exceptional group, but there was something a little off the rails about that band in the late 70's. It may well have been them feeding of Bowie's energy. I know he wrote Station to Station while off his trolley, but was he still fond of the sniff in the late 70s?
Absolutely. The DAM trio.. Davis, Alomar, Murray. Unbelievably good. The bass line in the original Station to Station, the drums in Look Back In Anger - everything they did really
Yes, of all the times i saw him live, it was the 78 tour band thats truly the best i witnessed. It was the last time the DAM trio ever played live again, Belew on lead, Simon House on electric violin, the 2 keyboard players produced a sound like no other. They were needed to deliver the setlists of the great songs of the Ziggy, Station, Low and Heroes albums. I believe that 2 live stunners, Beauty And The Beast and Blackout were never played live again after 78. Such a loss, especially Blackout.
Whata good memories the real music and genius of music at that time I came to live in london from Rome in the early 70 and I came primarily for the music Bowie always my favorite. I never left since.

Love the song, love Earl Slicks solo. on it. Heard a terrible solo by Adrian Belew from a earlier time and it was unimpressive but this stays true to his version on the album. I do like Adrian and his work with Crimson.
