My brother and I saw David perform this in Columbus Ohio in 2004. David called it an obscure song but the crowd knew the words and rocked the arena. David looked a pleasantly surprised. It was a great night!
Peter Jackson I was 15 and saw the 75 Wembley show and that's where my Bowie journey started I am now 58 saw him so many times, still watch him endlessly and it only triggers after that he has gone.
Still broken hearted just try n think never happened because if I do I don't know what?!. I'm a fan of over 40yrs. My 1st love always has been and always will be
Darly S …..and if you were old like I am, and seen his live concerts you may add this: it was a different time and culture. We could travel back in time to prevent the liberal lefty democrats from destroying our culture and fucking up everything they touch .
I'm not going back in time..I'm constantly moving forward to meet my life objective..he who lives in the past.can never live for today.or the future.. just kidding.no really... semper fi 2/8 wpns...
i miss him so much - and i´m not even a "hardcore fan". but the thought that he´s no longer here with us really aches. an AMAZING artist, truely one of a kind. i just hope he´s in a good place now and that his family is doing well. thank you, mr. bowie, rest in peace.
love bowie. he's not in a good place, right now. we all have to stand before the Lord upon our death. God is Holy; we r not. God loves us, God sent Christ to die for us. Reject the only cure for your sin and you get judged. You spend eternity separated from God in a place you know as Hell. David never repented from his sin and never received Christ as His propitiation. Bad news is it's too late for Dave, but not for u or anyone else who reads this message. Be smart....repent n receive/walk w Christ and be forgiven of your sins or stay in your sin and perish. Its your choice.
This song is the perfect song for everyone out there to understand what I've been saying about David Bowie I've been all over TH-cam telling you all the man was a musical genius the changes in music in just one song such as this one our outstanding. I'm not talking from one song to the next. I'm talking in one song the way this man switches gears in his shows and in his songs! To me I am sad that he's gone he is the best not was the best is the best and they always will be!
I saw David do this LIVE @ Madison Square Garden in '75 when he lanuched the Station to Station tour. He opened the show with a Salvador Dali silent film where a guy cut a woman's eye out. Great Show!
GregNobody Shit man, I bet that was spectacular! If I could time travel I'd be hard pushed to choose between the Station To Station/Isolar Tour or the last night of Ziggy at Hammersmith!
I usually always prefer his live stuff over the studio recordings. This one however is one of those few where the studio version, in my option is best. Still, he's always such a joy to watch. He's brilliant and gorgeous and c;harming. Thanks for posting this. Really appreciate it. ;-)
I've heard many live versions of this song, but I've never heard any as brilliant as this performance. Slick and Dorsey are amazing. Thanks for posting.
Doubt I'll ever come to terms with the magnificence of this song, and incredible versions like this just add to the mystery and power, truly beautiful.
Saw this tour in Boston. Earl, Gail A. Dorsey, Mike Garson. We stood outside the Garden and listened to Earl practise the Station introduction... This is the real McCoy.....
Durning the 76 Tour in Philadelphia when David sang the words "it's not the side effects of the cocaine" the 1st 3 rows of fans through confetti into the air. Surprising David who had a good laugh!
Bloody fkn wonderful a true master a fantastic song what a preformance what a man bloody good band you can see bowie and all were enjoying doing this.this is one of bowie's best songs.a true artist.love him to bits..listen to the fans at the end..thats tells you..how can 14 ple not like this .are they sick .thanks for this wonderfull gem xx
I love the opener bc it sounds like this grand 10 minute declaration from this self obsessed villainous madman, drunk off his own power and self construct, and he’s stumbling, finding his way, embellishing and mythologising, looking for his words, then suddenly it jolts into life and this maniacal bastard becomes quite pleased with all the pain and chaos he’s caused, and you wonder if it will ever recover, but as the album continues it comes to be that he’s running away in vain from some kind of trauma or heartache, and by the closer he’s somewhat relentlessly succumbed to it, wailing away in an attempt to excavate it from his soul.
db had planned to play this in Atlanta the show before this, but the curfew at the venue kept the show clipped at 2 hours. And I will never see him again. You will be missed, Mr. Jones.
Bevore 30 years everytime i heard this Song i was totally Stoned ... and now 30 years later i am totally clear in my head and it is still the same Awesome Song it was a long time ago ... Love it !! The Thin White Duke !!
This is a fantastic version. Backing vocals add so much to the power. And Slick pulling on a Les Paul for the shift to the rockier part. Great solo as well.
Thank you - no more words needed. so lucky to see you and the gang on the Reality Tour in Seattle, Vancouver and Kelowna. Memorable especially cause I was with the "bunny". ;)
No seen David over 30 times since the Diamond Dogs and we met him twice in the flesh...a very, very funny man indeed...I mean his little jokes etc....he is so happy now! Lova on ya...Gemma
I love how we get a few seconds of "Win" (which I don't think has ever been performed live) at 9:13 and then DB abruptly shouts "ENOUGH!" What a tease!
the legend! I was fortunate to witness Bowie from Aladdin Sane onwards, saw him pretty much all around the world, and met the great gentleman on several occassions, the last was on 5th Avenue, NYC, about 2 yrs prior to his tragic exit, he probably knew then, but gave no sign, the measure of the man, he inquired about my mum, a mega fan of his early work, she got my ticket for Mcr Arena, front block, I swear he played Rebel Rebel for my mum and I! There are a good number of artists who would be still in their garage or bedroom but for David Bowie. Godlike, but never ever beyond his friends, his work will inform many generations long after his graceful departure. People yap about Lennon/McCartney, Beatles, sorry Mr. David Jones had more creativity , style, and impact across the globe, helter skelter excepted!
Can we point out again how handsome, happy and healthy he looks compared to 1976 when he was "the thin white duke" - a skeleton always on cocaine.....he was 57 in 2004 and he looks great!
Thanks for posting, this is truly one of those timeless masterpieces, David is perfection as always. So talented and so cute at the same time. :) It's a pure pleasure to watch.
In 1976 the entire first 20 rows was one massive dancefloor at the 1/2 time os S to S....European cannon is here , Its says here! Thanks for this and this show in Toronto on April 1st /04 was Absolute David' WATCH FOR THE VODKA ADD...KEEP IT A SECRET!!! SHHHH...
Yeah!!! "The Return Of The Thin White Duke"!! My absolutely favourite Bowie-song at the moment!! :) :) (Before, it was the live-version of the song "Afraid" from the "Reality Tour"-DVD!) I can't exactly point my finger on it but David Bowie definitely has something weirdly magical - I love that!! Thank you so much for this awesome upload! :)
A song born out of the state of mind of a rockstar with a huge previous 3 year cocaine use. The mindset is very much in evidence in this song. A unique place to occupy at that time.
NOOOO comparison to being live in Toronto in 1976 after the locomotive screamed in The Garden that amazing Spring evening with David...Lord that blew your living skull off...and you could still go home alive, well and in a trance.
I really love the Station to Station album. I think it and Black Star album are my favorites when it comes to the arrangements and subject matter.. listen to both and hear Themusical brilliance of composition and lyricism that addresses each subject that's been written about as individually presented cases. Whose to say political correctness will win out? Musicians I know beleive in the truth and write the holy truth and what they stand for as witnesses of God. No sugar coating or rose coloured glasses or mega bucks will get them to sell out to today's dismal conformity.
this song is a masterpiece
This is the fifth live version I’ve checked out. Each performance has a multitude of reasons to recommend it. Collect them all!
I'm also going through different live versions of this song on TH-cam.

My brother and I saw David perform this in Columbus Ohio in 2004. David called it an obscure song but the crowd knew the words and rocked the arena. David looked a pleasantly surprised. It was a great night!
I suppose to mainstream pop audiences in the early 2000s, it probably is obscure, but it’s one of his best.
I saw every tour from 1976 Thin White Duke at Wembley England to Reality Tour Brisbane Australia. ...never failed to entertain RIP David.
Peter Jackson I was 15 and saw the 75 Wembley show and that's where my Bowie journey started I am now 58 saw him so many times, still watch him endlessly and it only triggers after that he has gone.
Damn, I envy you so much
Still broken hearted just try n think never happened because if I do I don't know what?!. I'm a fan of over 40yrs. My 1st love always has been and always will be
Me too.... Seattle!
Scientists should stop whatever they're up to and invest more time in discovering a worm hole so that we can start traveling back in time.
Amen, sister
Darly S …..and if you were old like I am, and seen his live concerts you may add this: it was a different time and culture. We could travel back in time to prevent the liberal lefty democrats from destroying our culture and fucking up everything they touch .

Watch it..your a spider from Mars..I can tell the thin white duke told me so..rock on...their was RONSON.and theirs SLICK..
We already have. People are being judged by the colour of their skin again to get jobs.
This live version with E.Slick is just great
i miss him so much - and i´m not even a "hardcore fan". but the thought that he´s no longer here with us really aches. an AMAZING artist, truely one of a kind. i just hope he´s in a good place now and that his family is doing well. thank you, mr. bowie, rest in peace.
thomas pühringer I agree you are genuine good soul to feel and think like that. Bowie blessings.
love bowie. he's not in a good place, right now. we all have to stand before the Lord upon our death. God is Holy; we r not. God loves us, God sent Christ to die for us. He called on the name of the Lord so he is saved ❤️
Bowie surrounded himself with talent. Was lucky enough to see him with Ronson in the 70's then later with Earl
Those vocals though ! Amazing !!! And the whole atmosphere of the song is like an rock opera
This song is the perfect song for everyone out there to understand what I've been saying about David Bowie I've been all over TH-cam telling you all the man was a musical genius the changes in music in just one song such as this one our outstanding. true classic, true arts, true masterpieces of music history...
only a handful of true artists sounds better live on stage than records....
Fuck me, I wish I'd been at any gig where David performed this. I reckon my head would have exploded. Never got the chance to see him live. :(
I saw David do this LIVE @ Madison Square Garden in '75 when he lanuched the Station to Station tour.
Its by Dali and Bunuel: Andaluzian dog
I saw that show in 75 in DC - that opening film was insane! Concert was unbelievable - they always were! Never saw a bad Bowie show!
Betsy Winters So jealous!
The way he builds in this performance shows that he always truly loved the music. I guess we all need a love so true and lucrative.
David was a true genius and I miss him everyday
I usually always prefer his live stuff over the studio recordings. This one however is one of those few where the studio version, in my option is best. Still, he's always such a joy to watch. He's brilliant and gorgeous and c;harming. Thanks for posting this. Really appreciate it. ;-)
An artist rich in diverse cultural influences, a beautiful man in all ways. How could you leave us David?? Please come back to my life!!
I've heard many live versions of this song, but I've never heard any as brilliant as this performance. Slick and Dorsey are amazing. Thanks for posting.
best live version of this song!
it's not the side-effects of the cocaine,
i'm thinkin that it must be love
Doubt I'll ever come to terms with the magnificence of this song, and incredible versions like this just add to the mystery and power, truly beautiful.
Saw this tour in Boston. Earl, Gail A. Dorsey, Mike Garson. We stood outside the Garden and listened to Earl practise the Station introduction... This is the real McCoy.....
Awesome version. Bowie just had the "something extra" that just put him head and shoulders above his rock/pop peers.
Talent! Work ethic!
Boy, whoever shot this surely loved Earl!
Durning the 76 Tour in Philadelphia when David sang the words "it's not the side effects of the cocaine" the 1st 3 rows of fans through confetti into the air. Surprising David who had a good laugh!
HOW could Earl Slick combine nonchalance and anarchy so perfectly?
+Karen Katz and Bowie was so full of joy and energy-he had a heart attack so shortly afterward…:-(
1st Bowie Album I owned, a masterpiece indeed
Their was RONSON..and then their is SLICK... Out of all the intros to this song live.its my favorite.. semper fi
My god he was one beautiful creature that david bowie.
Earl fucking Slick
Bloody fkn wonderful a true master a fantastic song what a preformance what a man bloody good band you can see bowie and all were enjoying doing this.this is one of bowie's best songs.a true artist.love him to bits..listen to the fans at the end..thats tells you..how can 14 ple not like this .are they sick .thanks for this wonderfull gem xx
È un’opera pazzesca!!! David Bowie sei un genio!!!!!!💋❤️💋❤️💋❤️
Was at a Q&A session with Earl Slick in Glasgow this week. Very insightful and he rated Station to Station as Bowies finest album. Many would agree.
DavidTransformer I agree 👍 just shades Scary Monsters for me
I do!
This is probably the best version of this song Ive seen
Try the live at Nassau version on TH-cam
Live in Nassau is just something else... what a fucking performance
U can see n feel the band loved to play this song
I'm absolutely in love with the bass player...completely and without reservation....
The album is a journey between evil. And. Good. Good wins. Wild is the wind
Wild is the wind makes me cry and think of David as if i've lost a family member

Was that at Chastaine? I was there too.
Newcastle upon Tyne city hall 1978 was the best version I ever heard or saw

Around 4 weeks later he was in hospital in Germany for a heart attack! And never toured again 😭
Again, this song happens to be one of my favorites. This version is alot more gentle rendition of it's original character.I still love it!!
Earl can you please turn that guitar up!!
This is a fantastic version. Backing vocals add so much to the power. And Slick pulling on a Les Paul for the shift to the rockier part. Great solo as well.
Semplicemente mitico...una leggenda della musica di tutti i tempi...love Bowie
He really looked like he was having fun at the end.

Totally agree - your mum sounds so cool. My first concert was seeing Bowie in 1978 at Sydney. What a privilege.
Wish I'd seen this live GREAT TRACK!
Can we point out again how handsome, happy and healthy he looks compared to 1976 when he was "the thin white duke" - a skeleton always on cocaine.....he was 57 in 2004 and he looks great!
cant wait for the new album and book
There's at least three or four classic tunes packed in that one masterpiece
thanks mate... this song don't come in the A reality Tour DVD
Thanks for posting, this is truly one of those timeless masterpieces, David is perfection as always. So talented and so cute at the same time. :) It's a pure pleasure to watch.

CAN YOU SAY AWESOME!!
Bloody brilliant!
Wow. What a show.
Should've sung this at live aid instead of TVC15.
He made a lot of mistakes in the 1980s, but not only him.
Amazing.
El artista más grande de todos los tiempos 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
Hello,
Nice to see you.
The 'Young Americans' at the end is fun.
Ciao,
Lubin
my dear - DAVID BOWIE
Earl slick
I agree with just about all the below comments fabulous thanks
sigo escuchandote bowie.

NOOOO comparison to being live in Toronto in 1976 after the locomotive screamed in The Garden that amazing Spring evening with David...Lord that blew your living skull off...and you could still go home alive, well and in a trance.
Meravigliosa !!!!!!!
😃🕺je suis d.accord avec tout ce qui est dit 👏👏⭐️🤣
The 'Young Americans" album tune at the end is fun...
A better performance than the one from 1978 that's on TH-cam.
FusilliJerry82 a one in a million shot doc, 1 in a 1,000,000. The assman did it again.
Rene Descartes is proud of You! :)
Slick switched guitars ...starts out playing a strat and solos with a les paul
Pretty sure it's Earl Slick.
Doesn't have the cold icy detachment of the 1976 tour...
