Okay I had gotten everything workng...at first. Now when I try to launch my game withskse64_loader I get this message: REL/Relocatio.h(617): failed to open. What do I do now? What is going on?

I agree with you on the modding community coming together, not on the slap to Bethesda’s face. Bethesda was self aware when it came to breaking mods and even gave the SKSE devs early access in order to work on it early.
@@Apoqsi That's fair enough. I didn't know about the EA for the SKSE devs. But I don't think it vindicates Bethesda's adverse (intentionally or otherwise) behavior towards the modding community. Their track record of attempts to monetize modding for their own benefit while poorly managing their products speaks for itself. And I can point to no better example than how they've hard linked Anniversary Edition to SSE with a forced update, putting all modders in a position where tools like this are needed just to play Skyrim. It shouldn't come to that, and the lack of oversight by Bethesda is what I believe deserves the proverbial slap.
@@Apoqsi Look... i hate to bother you but my down grade patcher first would not ato detect. I then fined it manually and it says "can't patch file, it doesn't match the exacted format." Witch maked it sound like i don't have skyrim AE. And the steam picture still says SE witch supports this theory. But then over on votex it tells me "the game has been updated to 1.6.353.0." Witch is AE. Then if i try to lunch the game i get a "you are using a newer verion of skyrim then this version of SKSE64 supports." And just fails to start. I am vary new to moddind and I have no idea whats happening or how to fix it. Someone please help. And befor anyone tells me to read or watch a video on it i have. No one seems to be haveing quite the same problem as me, so there fixes are also different. PS: i super appreciated your video it was vary well put together and this comes from someone that watches a lot of "how to" videos. And i can tell it helped a lot of people so you got a like and sub from me even though it didn't quite help me with my weird problem.
Agreed! Thanks so much for this! I logged in to my MO2 today and found that steam somehow updated SSE even though I have it set to only update when launched. SMH. Will run this fix tomorrow.

My Skyrim SE just entirely broke down. Apparently the preliminary AE build isn't entirely stable, and I just got permanently stuck at the main menu. This video, as well as the mod, is a godsend, as now I can finally get back to building my characters and playing Skyrim once again soon! Thank you so much.
Just yesterday I watched Gopher and one of his top 5 must have mods was a freaking back up mod to prevent this very problem. I should seriously listen to you guys more closely. Thanks Apoq. Somehow I feel this aint over.
Oh quick update: so many people have been downloading the mod that it was causing issues for the site hosting the patch files. It's all on the Nexus now, all contained in a .zip. The rest of the process is the same.
I was starting to get a little scared as to why SKSE was saying that Skyrim updated and wouldn't run (I am running somewhere around 500 mods and just recently got them all to play nice together) thank you for this as it will save me time and emotional pain...I really hate Bethesda sometimes. why did they need to update SE, they should've just released the AE version alone like the money grubbing assholes they are.
I understand the pain, but they shouldn’t have released it separately as that would have caused bigger long term issues for modding. It would have required all mods to have separate builds and a third Skyrim nexus. It’s just a DLC update to SSE, so releasing separately wouldn’t make sense for them or modding. Bethesda was also aware enough to give early access to SKSE devs so they could work on it ahead of the official release.
then we would have to deal with the exact same situation we went through going from LE to SE. I also don't think you realize to get everything from the cc you would need to pay a minimum of 38-40 dollars instead of the 20 for the UPGRADE. The AE UPDATE is free. The part you buy is just CC nothing else. And you don't have to get the upgrade or update if you don't want to but since you're here I'm guessing you are like me and didn't turn auto-updates off for Skyrim. If we did that we wouldn't have broken mods. The update isn't included in the paid version. the paid version is only CC content nothing else. The thing that broke Skyrim was the free update. It broke Skyrim by updating to the 2019 driver from the 2015 driver one. In other words, the scripts are faster than most mods can handle. At least that's what I read coming from the mod author of Lucien and the author of SKSE. So instead of trying to convert mods from two totally different bits, LE is 32 bit but SE is 64 bit both SE and AE are 64 bit so you don't have to convert mods. Mod authors would just have to do some tweaking and not full-on convert them.

I spent all day trying to figure out how to True Directional Movement and other mods to work for 1.6(new update) . An entire day of trial and error. Tomorrow will be another day of just that to make sure this patcher works with my mods. Damned be the life of a Skyrim modder

I had planned on playing the game again and had no idea that it updated anyway without even purchasing AE, so I was confused as to why it was the wrong version, big thanks to the creator! I can finally play skyrim once again and spend hours building a character now :D

You know I never heard about this specific mod that allows you to downgrade the version of this masterpiece I thought this was more of a you snooze you lose type of situation at first but thank goodness this exist to solve this big problem if it did happen but as always thanks for the heads up in this video I think my worriedness is finally gone for good so I can still enjoy this wonderful modding adventure as usual.
These sort of downgrade patchers never really used to be a thing, but with significant updates like this (and the one for Fallout 3) … they’ve become practically essential.
I stopped my skyrim from auto updating, never launched it from anywhere but MO2, and even made a backup. All of which failed somehow... So here I am. smh

If you use this patcher, then you don't need to worry about Steam re-downloading the files unless you manually verify the game files. The only worry is future inevitable patches for the game.
@@Apoqsi Hey it's me again. The downgrade patch worked for my SE, after running SKSE64launcher.exe it would show the first screen but shuts down before reaching the main menu. Not sure what I am doing wrong, I checked my skyrim and it is has indeed downgraded to the former version. Perhaps its my ENB? (Someone informed me that it is a CTD crash and is beyond this patch. SO... will be needing to do some reading and testing) Update: I found the problem, the patch works fine. In my despiration I downloaded the latest SKSE64 yesterday, with missing masters this did not allow me to run the game. So I found back the SKSE64 that I was using and installed that and it is working fine. Thanks for helping out :)

Was pulling my hair out, and of course was one of the few who did not know an update was coming, I never saw the quote, Modpocalypse on its way. When it hit, after preparing to run through the game again, hours of modding and prepping it, only to have a big ole slap in my face. this helped, a lil difficult at first, for some reason it would not run the Alternate start and kept tossing me in that cart ride, but I loaded in a clean save, and boom, my Matter of time and MCM are working. Thank you for saving Skyrim for me, for everyone.

You can play with the same saves and mods that are compatible with the AE Build of SKSE64. Updating again is as simple as verifying game files on Steam. If you have any script heavy mods or SKSE64 engine plugins, I’d suggest waiting for further updates.

I'm so bad with computers but got a gaming pc just because I adore skyrim and it has been my favourite game for years. When the update happened I was heart broken and just closed skyrim becuse I had no idea how to fix this issue. As someone who didn't realize AE was coming out, got home from a hellish day of work and just wanted to chill out only to find that they couldn't play their 300+ hour save because it was already updated... Thank you, I really hope this works.
I havent touched Skyrim since November because I genuinely thought that modding was dead, I refused to download the Anniversary update out of spite... And then today I see this in my recommended, I'm so happy lmao
I told my brother that a new edition was coming out, I also told him that Bethesda would definitely ruin my Skyrim, I also told him that a new era of bugs would begin. My Skyrim is updated to AE and it's a crash fest with mods, without mods, it doesn't matter. Seriously, it's criminal. It doesn't matter if you play it on a PC or a console, it's a crash fest. Why aren't those companies that sell broken products non-stop, punishing by law, it's beyond me.
Thanks man! :) As you already said in your pinned comment, the files have changed slightly so it's now a 3GB zip file. Not great if you're using the free sloooowww download method like most of us. There was another file called "Best of Both Worlds" that is labelled as experimental, but it's only 70MB or something. I used that instead and it's running just fine. Thanks again!
does not work for me, for starters it askes me to pick a file not the game folder, and while patching it stops at magik headers or something, the start patching button turns green again after that
Now I cannot acces the game because it says "Failed to locate an appropriate address library with the path etc. It says I am missing the address library for this specific version of the game. Please help!
It Worked! your amazing! (P.S. People, remember to revert mods dependant upon SKSE to the 1.5.97 version to avoid conflicts. Generally mods that requires specific versions of SKSE will have old files on NMM that match the correct SKSE version. Thanks!
Also will crash launching through steam. My game is completely screwed. Going to have to try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if I can play again. I'm just going to have to give up trying to get this to work with skse64.
@@Apoqsi Would one of them cause the game not to pull the skse64 version? I got as far as the command in this vid after following the 1st vid. When I typed "getskseversion" it wouldn't find it like it did here. That's when I tried following along again in the 1st video downloading the special edition skse64 and after completing that, that's when the game wouldn't open anymore.
Also, the downgrader tool doesn't even select my skyrim folder even though its in the same location as the vid. When I try to navigate to it, it forces me to select a specific file instead of a folder like in the vid. I chose the skyrimSE launcher and it seemed to work. Idk if doing that was a mistake or not or if something else isn't right.
Tried again and running into the same problems. It keeps saying my skse is out of date and doesn't match despite following the instructions. I don't think the skse link matches anymore after you downgrade which is why Im running into these issues. Looks like I'll just have to wait until some of the mods I want to use upgrade until I can use them again because downgrading the game isn't working for me.
If you ever want to undo the patches in this but steam doesn't auto update even with auto updates on, you'll just need to verify the games file integrity. That should mark the changed files to be updated

Update: I found the problem, the patch works fine. In my despiration I downloaded the latest SKSE64 yesterday, with missing masters this did not allow me to run the game. So I found back the SKSE64 that I was using and installed that and it is working fine. Thanks for helping out :)

Was pulling my hair out, and of course was one of the few who did not know an update was coming, I never saw the quote, Modpocalypse on its way. When it hit, after preparing to run through the game again, hours of modding and prepping it, only to have a big ole slap in my face. this helped, a lil difficult at first, for some reason it would not run the Alternate start and kept tossing me in that cart ride, but I loaded in a clean save, and boom, my Matter of time and MCM are working. Thank you for saving Skyrim for me, for everyone.
Hi! I got a quick question 😁 : let's say I'm planning an upgrade to AE edition after downgrading the game, do I have to play a completely new game or I can continue with my previous saves and mods that I have? thank you in advance !
You can play with the same saves and mods that are compatible with the AE Build of SKSE64. Updating again is as simple as verifying game files on Steam. If you have any script heavy mods or SKSE64 engine plugins, I’d suggest waiting for further updates.

I'm so bad with computers but got a gaming pc just because I adore skyrim and it has been my favourite game for years. When the update happened I was heart broken and just closed skyrim becuse I had no idea how to fix this issue. As someone who didn't realize AE was coming out, got home from a hellish day of work and just wanted to chill out only to find that they couldn't play their 300+ hour save because it was already updated... Thank you, I really hope this works.

Just reset my pc and was redownloading at setting up all mods including SKSE and got the prompt. so glad this patcher came out!

I told my brother that a new edition was coming out, I also told him that Bethesda would definitely ruin my Skyrim, I also told him that a new era of bugs would begin. My Skyrim is updated to AE and it's a crash fest with mods, without mods, it doesn't matter. Seriously, it's criminal. It doesn't matter if you play it on a PC or a console, it's a crash fest. Why aren't those companies that sell broken products non-stop, punishing by law, it's beyond me.

Thanks man! :) As you already said in your pinned comment, the files have changed slightly so it's now a 3GB zip file. Not great if you're using the free sloooowww download method like most of us.
There was another file called "Best of Both Worlds" that is labelled as experimental, but it's only 70MB or something. I used that instead and it's running just fine.

does not work for me, for starters it askes me to pick a file not the game folder, and while patching it stops at magik headers or something, the start patching button turns green again after that
Now it just says “Failed to Obtain module handle! SkyrimSE.Exe or SkyrimVR.exe has been renamed and the dll isn’t made for that exe.”

I had the same issue. For whatever reason plugging in a controller lets you move with the controller for me. Hope that helps

I selected skyrim special edition from files and it still doesn't work. It says, "system.IO.filenotfoundexception: could not find file."

It Worked! your amazing! (P.S. People, remember to revert mods dependant upon SKSE to the 1.5.97 version to avoid conflicts. Generally mods that requires specific versions of SKSE will have old files on NMM that match the correct SKSE version. Thanks!

I followed the instructions and now the game immediately crashes when trying to open it through the loader :(
Also will crash launching through steam. My game is completely screwed. Going to have to try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if I can play again. I'm just going to have to give up trying to get this to work with skse64.
That would be an issue with your mods.
@@Apoqsi Would one of them cause the game not to pull the skse64 version? I got as far as the command in this vid after following the 1st vid. When I typed "getskseversion" it wouldn't find it like it did here. That's when I tried following along again in the 1st video downloading the special edition skse64 and after completing that, that's when the game wouldn't open anymore.
Also, the downgrader tool doesn't even select my skyrim folder even though its in the same location as the vid. When I try to navigate to it, it forces me to select a specific file instead of a folder like in the vid. I chose the skyrimSE launcher and it seemed to work. Idk if doing that was a mistake or not or if something else isn't right.
Tried again and running into the same problems. It keeps saying my skse is out of date and doesn't match despite following the instructions. I don't think the skse link matches anymore after you downgrade which is why Im running into these issues. Looks like I'll just have to wait until some of the mods I want to use upgrade until I can use them again because downgrading the game isn't working for me.
If you ever want to undo the patches in this but steam doesn't auto update even with auto updates on, you'll just need to verify the games file integrity. That should mark the changed files to be updated
